      Only help if you can be helpful

      Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

      Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

    Hey this looks great! Probably a dumb question, but with the changes present here, how compatible is this with technodefirmacraft? I haven't tested this out yet, but would it be as simple as copying over the ..stuff..jar?
  6. FOV shifts

    Occasionally, almost randomly, my FOV will zoom way in, stay there for 5-30 seconds, and shift back to regular. It almost feels like its supposed to be a feature, it only happens in caves, but I can't seem to pinpoint whether it has to do with light level, temperature, hunger, etc.. Does anyone know what's causing this? Google searches,forum searches, wiki searches, and changelog searchesturn up literally nothing. Solved. Optifine issue. Why is there no delete thread option?

    Recently I began to play TFC, a couple days agothe Waila panel was not showing up. I tried to use an other version of Waila but doesn´t worked too (Waila 1.5.5_1.7.10 and 1.5.7_1.7.10). IAlso updated NEI and CodeChickenCore but doesn´t worked either. I attached a file of my modfolder. Maybe someone know how tosolve the problem

    I found this cool seed where you spawn on an island. There are plenty of trees, some sphalerite and clay. There is also a ravine. There are also a bunch of sticks everywhere. I already deleted the world (so no screenshots sadly), but I still have the MapWriter image.     Honestly, I still check here every once in a while. I love TFC as a concept and still do to this day. It just so happens that myexpectations for a TFC2 release has gone down very well these past several months, especially in light of the upcoming 1.13 update. Perhaps when the update comes out and some time has passed for the modding community to sort it out, then we may see a resurgence in TFC2 development. As it stands now, Minecraft is not the only game I'm interested in (neither have I played it in a long while). Fact of the matter is, people eventually get bored of waiting for a long update, and other games eventually catch their interest. I've moved on toTeam Fortress 2and Guild Wars 2as a matter of fact. Does that mean I've given up on TFC2 entirely? No, not when 1.13 has been reputed to be significantly changing Minecraft's coding to where modders will be forced to account for such changes. Based on what I know about news on TFC2 development and the upcoming Minecraft update, I think it's preferable for Bioxx to wait until the update drops and see what changes have been made to the game's code. After all, coding total-conversion mods like TFC is hard work, if my limited coding experience back in my high school days is anything to indicate.

    Hello all, long time lurker first time post. I was hoping someone could help me in adding an item to TFC. As I understand the current TFC logs all have a temp, and burn time. I was hoping to add a new one called " firelog " that would require 4 regular log to create and then would have no or lowest temp setting so you cannot use it to cook with but would an extremelylong burn time. This would be used mostly for cosmetic fireplaces, or light sources, and could be made on your first day of play. I do want to balance it with the oil/alcohol burning lanterns as they should be more efficient. Problem is that I have never modded or added anything to minecraft before let alone the addition code for TFC. If someone could take the time to point me in the direction I want to go ? Do I use minetweaker ? mcreator ? both ? Where do I add the TFC code for the log burn time and temp, etc. Thank you.
  16. So things got a bit delayed on the TnFC server front. Health issues. Family issues. Other things. You know how life goes. But fret not. The HappyDiggers TnFC server is still in development! A bunch of config stuff got done. A suitable spawn area has been found and terraformed. And, of course, the spawn building has been placed there. Tenterro has agreed to help out and build some awesome looking bridges around spawn. It won't be long now. Here are some screens to wet your appetite.

  18. TFC1 1.12+ port

    I'm using some textures and will be using the TFC2 worldgen code. So far I'm writing from scratch, but I'm staying on the safe side with GPL3. The mechanics will probably be partially recycled. For the first release, I'll be including it in the Sadnut modpack (don't question it...), with CraftTweaker and Artisan Worktables providing most of the mechanics. I'm eventually going to bring over everything from TFC, but I'm taking small steps.

    So I'm guessing that by choosing to stay with the TFC license that you are planning to recycle TFC code where it makes sense? I too have looked many times at porting or rewriting TFC for newer MC/Forge versions. The choice as to reuse TFC code is understandable although the TFC codebase is sprawling and not always well structured. That's why I end up deciding to rewrite from scratch and just adopt the mechanics with no code re-use. But then you have the issue of having to rewrite all the mechanics. It's not an easy decision and I've changed my mind multiple times. In any case, will be keeping on eye on your project. The concept is one that so many folks love the idea of. Just a ton of work. Guess it depends on how much of the overall TFC mechanics you're looking to bring over. You said not the worldgen stuff which makes me curious as that to me is a big part of what makes TFC the awesome mod it is.

    I was playing this modpack in the last month and I really liked it, but I got stuck in the progression. I wanted to make a detonation spraying machine which requires metal casting. By following the progression I saw that you need a muffle furnace for that. After making an Acheson furnace you need tar pitch to make electrodes in order to use it. To make tar pitch you either make it out of resin by smelting it in a bucket (requires metal press or electrolysis bath) or you make it through chemistry which also requires advanced IHL tools and you need metalcasting to make these tools. I couldnt find any way to make tar pitch. Can someone please help?
