      Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

      Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

    Well I've said that the Administrator could create some template and somes skills, well you'll be choosing as the administrator what skill you have to used to cut trees or transform it into plank or used it to do a house etc Finaly what I suggest is much more for a multiplayer used, like for a semi-rp server or a full-rp server! And with that, in a roleplay server if the map is created by the staff, you'll be travelling to find ore! Well ... like I said, this is more for a roleplay / semi roleplay server. To be sure that nobody do everything and you need to be more specialised to developped you're community!

    Hi Sercanis, welcome to the forums!(and don't worry, you speak- err, write-english well ) Now, about your suggestion, I'm not sure I got what you're trying to say. Are you saying that items and blocks should be level and "class" restricted? Like, you need to be level 5 in mining to dig an ore or use a pickaxe of a better material? Or you need to be a blacksmith to use an hammer? Because, if that's the case, I fear that I can't agree with your suggestion, as I think that the players shouldn't be limited by artificial restrictions. On the subject of skills, I think that a new skill is fine as long as there is a real use for it. TFC1's skills were few and specific to a certain area of playing : butchering gave you more meat, agriculture gave you more crops and seeds, cooking gave a taste bonus to your prepared dishes , the three smithing skills (tool smithing, weapon smithing and armor smithing) gave bonuses to the items smithed by the player and the prospecting skill removed false negatives from prospecting. So, I would like to ask you to give more example skills, as your example doesen't really seem to be useful (copper and bronze have very distinct looks, also I assume the player won't be able to make a vanilla anvil in TFC2 like he/she wan't able to in TFC1). Lastly, regarding attribute points, I would like a better explanation. From what I've gathered from your suggestion, you mean that each player has a set of attributes, which are "rolled" in each new world through dice. This approach seems quite similar to Dnd; while there's nothing wrong with that, I'd like to ask you: what would they do? Why would we have them? Can you please give us some examples? I feel that, if done right, this could be interesting, otherwise it would weight down the experience. Overall, I feel like you haven't explained enough, especially in regards to the attribute system. This suggestion could be interesting, but you need to explain a little more, while also keeping in mind that it would be best if new mechanics added to the gameplay rather than limiting it (take this with a grain of salt, as it's just personal preference: for me, it's limiting even the fact that iron is gated behind bronze, as in many places people actually never made their own bronze because of the lack of materials needed to make it, and either traded for bronze or worked directly iron).

    Yes. I’ve not looked at the code for it so not sure how the rendering is handled, but I imagine different shapes won’t be an issue. You can certainly post them in this thread. We are still getting the forum bits organised. If you use discord feel free to come on our channel and send the files there in the tfc development talk channel. Discord is probably the best medium as it provides an easier back and forth.Just zip up the png files tag it with @bunsanand I can have a look.

    After actually playing the game (which is extremely accessible), I have to say that the vision is similar to TFC and I was too quick to judge.The graphics are splendid, and the mechanics are superior to anything that latches onto the MC platform. The creators are obviously onto something here. There are a lot of promising features planned, but even as it stands right now the game is on par with TFC in terms of content; I'd go as far as stating that Vintage Story (pains me to refer to this gem by this name) does many things much better than TFC. The mechanics of metalworking, for example, arevastly superiorin VS. Other than some minor gripes, I was left very pleasantly surprised by the game. Future relations between TFC staff and VS? One can only dream, but I'm pretty sure that the people behind Vintage Story can pick up the reins on their own. TFC players are much better off migrating at this point.

    Sorry brother I don't mean to be rude, but the name "Vintage Story"to me is very unappealing. The name is suppose to be the face of what's underneath, and it's meant to encapsulate the vision of the creators. I looked into the game a bit, and it looks nice so far. However, the fact that those in charge of it sat down and agreed to name it "Vintage Story" gives me an idea of the staff's vision and the direction it's likely to take. TFC's name has a sort of primordial, almost ominousvibe to it that fits incredibly well with what the mod is about; the name "Vintage Story" is fitting for the type of setting that is fundamentally different than what TFC attempts to portray.

    The only way forward for TFC is standalone. MC has been on the road of Modding community rejection for many years and it's only getting worse. The effort put into a mod written in J*va is roughly comparable to the amount of effort needed to create a standalone. The difference is that a standalone has all the room to grow on the dev's terms, and can actually bring in income. A mod, however, is nothing but sweat and tears; all leading up to being completely steamrolled by Mojang and having a totally dead community to show for. Niche games can last a lifetime, but the reason why niche mods don't is because they're niches of a niche, and the people who are into game modes like TFC don't bother looking into MC to begin with. Games like Vintage Story show that there is some sort of demand for a TFC-like game that isn't constrained by an unfriendly platform. But Vintage Story just doesn't display the same spirit as TFC. The name "Vintage Story" alone is a HUGE red flag and the biggest reason why I'm not going to look into it. In other words, I don't see a future for TFC inside the MC framework; what the staff should do is pick up the vision of TFC proper, and channel their talent on an independent platform. Just as long as they stay away from things like ingame purchases and dlcs.

    I checked TFC source codeand thecombineTastesmethod of theTEFoodPrepclass (which is used in both sandwiches and salads) does in fact use a simple addition with no regards to food weight or anything. So I thinkI have figured it out. Considering the offset shown isfoodValue - myPreferredValue, there is a number for this subtraction resultwhich could satisfy the prepared food equation: 0. Plain zero. In other words, my preferred taste for sweetness is probably 21. So, foods with -21 offset make no diference in the final taste at all. Sorry, had I investigated a little further I would have understoodit by myself prior to posting the question.

  28. Hi! Sorry if my english isn't that good I'm French! ^^ Well, I've see that someone else suggest something for stats but ... I think the best is to maybe have a Menu for an Administrator that allowed him to created somes templates. With maximum and minimum stats (for here I'll think a maximum of 100 in a stats) that allowed the player to wear somes armor/weapon,that could tell if he can used somes items, destroy or create a block. With the possibility to have somes skills that can only be used by a template, it could tell too if someone is lying about the name of an item. For exemple : David is a Blacksmithand John a merchant. John want to buy somes copper, David show him some bronze bar but tell that it's copper because bronze is cheaper than copper for him and he put the name "Copper Bar" on it. John that is specialized in metals have his skill of "Metal Knowledge" at lvl 6 because he learn by trying to know if somes metal bar was what they are used to be. He learnxp by trying to know it and have a better % in he's try, but he have his Intelligence stats to 94/100 that is very high. In this situation a lvl of "Metal Knowledge" is +7.5% chance and a stats in Intelligence +0.5%. In that case he have 45%+47%= 92%. If he won, he have a little more xp in he's level and in the chat at 5 blocks around you can see the result, if he loose you can only see the result. But to be sure that player will not know if he won or loose, the xp bar of a skill will be invisible. He will only know he's lvl. And for the stats repartion, you'll have a little interface that allowed you to choose a template or not, the game will used some dice to define each stats. You will able to try this X times and if one of you're stats is under the minimum or maximum of a stats it'll try again without taking you're attempt. Hope that you'll understand! ^^

    I've finally reached master level in cooking, and I can now see the precise taste offsets. However I'm still having trouble understanding the calculations. Focusing only in sweetness, i.e., I've prepared a sandwich with the following recipes: A: [-21, -21, -21, -21, 29] => 29 B: [-21, -21, -21, 29] => 29 Both resulted in the same sweetness value, even with one ingredient removed. I have checked past posts such as "Help with Meals", which contains an excellent explanation by Kittychanley. Yet,I'm unable tovisualizehow an addition of taste values would achieve this result. With the hope to reduce the test case, I tried two salads: C: [-21, 29] => 29 D: [-21, -21] => -21 Again, seems like negative offsets are somewhat ignored. Which contradicts anything I could imagine. I wonder if someone could help enlightening me about this. Thank you in advance!
