Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

I see the release of the build 1.26. something was updated or fixed? if you develop the mods yourself, you can create a server mod that defines the players on the server, and if they do not, it reads the server time and constantly gives the server /time set <server time when the last player left>
  3. current gameplay vision?

@killsode This post would be a good place to start.
  4. Mining is difficult

I feel like this is going to fight the island-hopping nature of TFC2. It may also require mechanics a bit too grindy and restrictive for some. I'd actually say the game benefits more from making the player use their skill to find multiple veins of some heavily used resources, such as copper and iron in TFC1.

  6. When I load up my world (I'm using the Technodefirmacraft modpack) my animals seem fine, and I can interact with them just as I should be able to. However, after a certain amount of time my animals become intangible! I cannot shear my sheep, or even punch a pig. I have tried restarting my world (which works.. for a few mins) and completely restarting the game.Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks!

  12. As another former player of the official TNFC server, I would definitely be interested in playing. You could probably find a lot of other people who are interested too on the subreddit, it could be worth making a thread there.

Thanks for nailing this bug, yes can be common issue for all mods, which were utilizing this template: terrafirmacraft.com/f/topic/8373-request-addon-devlopment-guide because this bug is inside this template. I will check other TFC mods sources used in this modpack to ensure, that this bug wasn't copied into them.

By the way, I refused MapWriter, because he did not always (on my client) keep the map and checkpoints, JourneyMap is working correctly.
  19. Primitive Technology TFC add-on mod

There is a bug in your mod where it makes time go backwards when the server runs, but no players are on. In your ModCommonProxy your are importing the TFC ServerTickHandler instead of your own.
  20. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

In my opinion, real-time server operation without players is much more realistic, so on my server I set :simSpeedNoPlayers to 0
  21. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

This will be an issue caused by a TFC add-on, not TFC. As TooMuchTime-TFC is our implementation of dmillers TooMuchTime I know it isn't to blame. This seems to be a common problem for TFC addons as they copy or call TFC code that results in the time going backwards with the time slowdown. Basically TFC keeps rolling back the tick the number of times you have set in the config before it lets that tick happen. So at 100 it will roll back 99 times before letting the tick to remain. For whatever reason some addons make it so it rolls back the tick 2x instead of just once. Meaning that time runs backwards when no one is online. No matter what value you give this config if it is greater than 0 time will go backwards. EDIT: The add-on that is to blame is likely The TFC Primitive Tech add-on. It imports the TFC ServerTickHandler class instead of importing its own.
  22. Hunting and world generation.

Maybe we should compromise. You first use the path dimension and portals to access an island. Then, when you conquered the island the curse that protected the ocean span between it is lifted. After that you could use the path dimension or boats.
  23. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

The course of time without players is even better.
  24. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

By the way, there is another parameter, I:yearLength, which is set to 360 in this modpack, in contrary to default 96. Maybe this parameter and above one doesn't mix. There are servers with long year and with time not stopped without clients connected, and from what I know, they works fine. It is even better to have longer year but time constantly passing, you can then estimate when crops are ready and hop on to gather, or when winter passed and seed.
  25. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

Apparently there really are problems with this parameter. Made a value of 0 and time does not roll back, but it goes as if the players on the server are present. Any value above 0 results in a rollback of the time back. It's better real time without players than constant time kickbacks. Thank you very much for your advice.
  26. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

There is I:simSpeedNoPlayers in TFCConfig.cfg, maybe this is an issue, try to switch it off. But I didn't touch it, it is default Terrafirmacraft value.
  27. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

I can not constantly monitor the server. Maybe you know a mod that pauses time on the server if there are no players there. Tried to start a server with one mod TerraFirmaCraft - time does not roll back
  28. TFC1 1.12+ port

Wow! You can port TFC to MC 1.12? The devs always said how nearly impossible this is, especially the chiseling code. I will definitely play TFC again if you can pull this off.
  29. WIP [TFC-0.79.29] TerraFirmaProgressivePack

It is strange, there was nothing special during last updates, which would be responsible on time issues. There is TFC Too Much Time mod, which change proportion of day/night depending on date (whole day+night duration is still 20 minutes), but I never had any problems with this on my private server. However I was shutting server, when nobody is using it.
