      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. 1.7.10 mods with TFCb79

The list mentions needing to add a line to a config file for Dynamic Lights to work, but when I downloaded the 1.7.10 version, there was no config file. I got the .jar files and a readme file. The readme file mentions each portion of the mod having its own config file, but after downloading the mod multiple times to make sure it wasn't a fluke with the download, I didn't get any config files with the download.
  2. Questions About The Model Creator

I know what you're thinking, "this isn't really off topic". And if I was right about your thinking being that, you're right. Problem is, I had no idea where I should post this. To get to the point, I've not been terribly active on the forums due to things that came up which would probably be best discussed in depth elsewhere. The first things I noticed are the edition of a download link for an "MC Model Creator". and a topic on "development" of TFC 2. The Development section seems to just be contributions for models using this MC Model Creator tool. Thankfully, most of this is self explanatory. Based on what I could find on the forums, it's just a model creation tool used to create animal models for TFC2. There's three things I could not find over the course of searching the forum for an hour. Could this be incompetence on my part? Sure. I don't deny that possibility. I just don't want it to seem like I'm making a post about something I put zero effort into figuring out myself. The three things I never got an answer for are as follows: When was the decision made to start using this tool? How does one qualify to use it? (what little I could gather from individual posts implied that work on these models is not open to the public, but is open to whoever is approved by one of the devs) Was this something that was made by the TFC devs themselves, or is this a 3rd party tool the devs have decided to use for mod development? Again, forgive me if this is supposed to be common knowledge and I've somehow missed something obvious. I'm a bit taken aback by the effort I put into looking for information, only for it to seem like something that magically appeared if I didn't know better.
  3. Questions About The Model Creator

Thanks, @Kittychanley and @Darmo, for the clarification. I've got a few ideas in mind that I might be able to take a crack at. So far, my only complaint about MCMC is what seems to be the ability to modify the shape of the blocks with the mouse instead of manually entering dimensions into the keyboard, but that's only what I gathered from playing around for a minute without actually RTFM'ing before I went in. I would say something about the apparent use of DirectX 11, since WINE doesn't yet have complete support for that, but I thought I remembered Bioxx is working on a Linux build, so I don't have a reason to complain. Thankfully, the iGPU in the one Windows device I still own is enough for this, so it's not stopping me from making models.
  4. I'm leaving this here as a status, so it's easier to copy/paste onto another device: http://pastebin.com/EMAxCe3C

  5. Oh...Apparently, this is a thing.

  6. A more complex iron age.

I like the idea. I don't think there would be a problem of people skipping iron for steel, as it sounds like it would just have the effect the progression from copper to bronze has, where most players would be focused on moving quickly through that portion of the tier where the iron forged is no better than the bronze they already have. If I understand this correctly, there's not really an effective way to just skip iron as a whole and go to steel to avoid initial problems with iron. I'm sure someone will point out if there is a way, as I'm far from the best player when it comes to TFC.
  7. 2016

Well, I'm an icky, evil, Liberal who has beliefs which have apparently been likened to Socialists, but I don't necessarily agree with Socialism. I like a decent chunk of the ideas proposed by the Libertarian Party, but feel the movement ultimately won't work, because I believe it will lead to corporations committing all the atrocities our government already commit. Unfortunately, I feel no candidate adequately represents my beliefs, and it will probably be a long time until one comes along. I used to think Sanders was the silver lining in our deeply flawed system, but have come to realize his fiscal policies are hilariously flawed, as it doesn't account for anywhere near the amount of money his plans would apparently cost. Considering the community here apparently leans a particular way on the political spectrum, it's probably best I not go into any more detail yet, as, frankly, I don't want to piss anyone off. Perhaps I am wrong in saying this, and the community is more civil than my presumptions lead me to believe. We shall see.
  8. When can we play tfc2?

Thanks for the feedback! I wanted to be sure if I was actually reading into those tweets too much. I can understand why you would want to get that out of the way first, though. Honestly, I'd probably do the same. I'm looking forward to the coming changes.
  9. When can we play tfc2?

I apologize if the timing on asking this isn't the greatest, but has any of the prior mechanics changed so far from what we know in TFC1? I noticed the feed of tweets from you and Kitty implying that the crops and torches have been implimented for TFC2 so far.
  10. When can we play tfc2?

Do you (really, applying to anyone, but I would love it if I could get an answer from a developer), foresee the development of TFC2 progressing in a similar fashion to TFC1, how the base systems were set into motion and improved with each version, will the idea be to work on a mechanic or two at a time, or are neither of those guesses correct?
  11. Mammoth in terrafirmacraft

I don't think they would "ruin" the game, but I don't think they would fit, since mammoths went extinct thousands of years before Terrafrimacraft is implied to take place (since the tech tree is about what was possible during the middle ages). I also think the height is a bit much. Six meters is also too tall for a mammoth. "Like their modern relatives, mammoths were quite large. The largest known species reached heights in the region of 4m (13ft)". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammoth
  12. TFC Myths

Thanks for the clarification. Again, sorry if that was a stupid question.
  13. TFC Myths

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but is that true even when they're sealed?
  14. Food symbols depending on weight

I'm curious as to why, but understand if you can't say.Back to the topic itself, I'm guessing the lack of response to my suggestion of writing it in a way that it uses the textures that already exist for food was indication that it's not feasible. It's a shame, because I do think it would be nice if something like this could be done with reasonable amounts of effort.
  15. That is strange...it should be RandomASCII... I'll be able to check today, and will message you if it works.
  16. Food symbols depending on weight

I did apologize for being nit-picky.
  17. Food symbols depending on weight

I misspoke. I meant Heavy. I guess I was wrong, as food apparently doesn't fit in to the "Large" category, even at it's maximum weight per stack.
  18. Patreon

You mentioned price suggestions. Would a minimum of a dollar or two, followed by five to ten dollar increments work? For example:Teir I: $1Teir II: $5Teir III: $10etc...What perks should be part of which teir is something I'd have to get back to you on, as I'm not 100% sure.
  19. Food symbols depending on weight

I agree with you, and apologize if this sounds nit-picky, but you seem to have forgotten Large.
  20. My in-game name is the same as my name on this forum (RandomASCII). I currently live in Virginia, and would therefore be on the Eastern time zone (UTC -4). I have a Teamspeak under the same name, but will probably not be using it. To answer your question about the ore, you would technically need ~14.28 ore to get exactly five ingots. Since you can't exactly have fractions of whole ore pieces in the game, the answer would be 15, but you would have an excess of 25 units of whatever metal this ore was. I started playing TFC back when it was still using version 1.5, but stopped playing because I lost a flash drive that had a backup of 1.5 before the new launcher, and my hard drive had stopped working on my laptop. I got back into it around September of last year, and have been playing it occasionally ever since. Thus, I know enough about the game that I usually don't have to look up stuff to progress. I don't record any gameplay, currently. I might, eventually. It all depends on how long it takes me to save up for my next computer. I'm thinking I'll have it before Autumn this year.As for the portion where you want us to tell you a little about us, I've not got a ton to say, but I feel it's sufficient. Since age seems to be a relatively obligatory thing, I'll disclose that I'm 19. I'm not a casual gamer in the sense that all I play are games from that genre, but I consider myself casual, because I tend to not play as often as your average gamer. I have a tendency to only play an hour or so a day, followed by occasional relative binges as high as five hours. When I'm not gaming, my hobbies include various forms of art (mostly sketches and digital artwork), and writing. You also mention that you want us to state the name of the server in the reply to make sure we read the whole thing. The name of the server is Ursine Nation Life On The Frontier.
  21. Standalone TFC?

Are you asking if the render distance is based on the same distances as Minecraft? If that's what you mean, the render distance is based on the game's chunk size (32^3). I'm not quite sure how to answer your other question, as it's relatively vague.
  22. Standalone TFC?

I want to start by apologizing if this is something that has already been proposed. I didn't find anything in my brief search that seemed to suggest what I'm suggesting now. After a leave of absence from this site, I return to see a blog post-thing by the lord and saviour of TFC, Bioxx(hmm...would that make Kitty the Virgin Mary? Is it too soon for jokes?) problaiming that TFC will never see the light of version 1.8 of Minecraft. Personally, I don't blame him. Mojang's quick fix bandage known as the new rendering system seems to have caused the least stable framerates of any version I've ever played. Strangely enough, 1.8's framerate is so unstable for me that the game was completely unplayable for me until the release of 1.8.3. My framerate would shoot as high as 90fps and immediately dip between 7 and 15fps when doing ANYTHING. I even see it in YouTube videos whenever anyone has the F3 menu open. I'll see YouTubers with framerates at a whopping 200+fps dip just above 60 or 70 for no apparent reason. Thankfully, Optifine exists, and it allowed me to play at double the render distance I could play 1.7.10 at without dipping below 60fps. Although, Optifine doesn't always play nice with TFC. However, that is another story for a different thread. To get back to the point, I agree with Bioxx that 1.8 sucks, and that's without even delving into changes regarding modding. I would comment on that, but I haven't looked into modding myself since 1.5.Anyway, a thought popped into my head after reading the post and thinking about it. As much as it pains me to say it. Minecraft in general, from a programmer's perspective, seems to suck. From what I hear, the code is a disgusting mess. To make a long story short, this led me to wonder if it might be possible for TFC to stem beyond the Minecraft engine and even create their own engine. Obviously, there are cons to such a move; one that comes to mind is the fact that building an engine from scratch takes quite a bit more time than it does to rewrite a mod. Regardless, this is something I thought might be worth discussion.
  23. Food symbols depending on weight

Would writing it to use the same textures that already exist be difficult? That's the only way I could see this working without unnecessary effort. Although, I think that the bars serve it's purpose well enough that the alternative isn't necessarily needed.
  24. Standalone TFC?

It's funny you mention that, because I know someone who is making a voxel game with chunks that are 32m^3 instead of 16x16x256. My computer has a Pentium 4 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a GT610, yet despite the game having blocks that are half the size(which means a SIGNIFICANTLY higher polygon count) and 256x256 textures by default, I'm able to keep the game at a consistent 30fps at 720p with a view distance that's almost double Minecraft's default.Granted, this game in particular is FAR better written than Minecraft, but I specifically remember this person saying that a large chunk of the performance increase is because of the chunk size.
  25. Standalone TFC?

That is true. I guess what I meant is more of the "early access"-esque models where the user pays as an investment in the development.
