      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. [0.79.21] Desert Spawn

I still think peat is a myth. I've NEVER EVER found a single block Granted, I've never seen a desert either, but I don't often venture past (-)5000 X.
  2. WAILA Animal Support

When is the number of piglets decided upon? At birth or earlier?
  3. How deep have you seen snow get?

Four slabs? How thick is a snow slab? Do you mean a "solid block" slab, which is 1/2 of a full block or do you mean a layer of snow, which is 1/8 of a full block? Anyway, the deepest I got was 8 layers - one full block. It was funny because it was on top of one block of dirt that was sticking out on an otherwise flat surface. And on the flat surface the snow was at most 4 layers thick - the only place it got up to 8 was on this lone block... I may still have the savegame with that one - if I find it, I can post a screenshot here. Z was something around 12000 I believe. Long winter, but not so long that I did not manage to grow almost all edible crops.
  4. [Solved] Bloomery problem

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum? (Yes/No): Yes TFC Version #:0.79.20Forge Version #:10.13.3.1403SSP/SMP (SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer):SSPDescription: I built a bloomery (with highest possible chimney - 3 bricks above the bloomery door). I wanted to make bloom out of 24 hematite pieces. After I dropped 16, no more wanted to "melt" into the dark mass. I thought maybe I built smaller chimney after all, but whatever. I started to drop charcoal, but the bloomery only "ate" 4 pieces, the rest is not "melting" into the dark mass. I remembered from 0.79.15 that you just need to wait a few seconds sometimes for the items to "melt", but I waited a full minute - nothing happened. I tried to restart the game - didn't help. I'm putting here a screenshot of my half-filled bloomery. Note: It was snowing when I started to drop stuff - but there was NO snow layer inside the chimney, I checked before dropping the first piece. Now it's not snowing anymore, but I cannot add anything to the chimney. I also tried to just start the bloomery, but it won't start.Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug? (Yes/No): default Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No):If yes, which mods? Rei's minimap, JourneyMap, Nei+Waila, FastCraft (1.21), TFC Scales (I promise, we did not touch the bloomery )If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No):not using either
  5. 79.20 take a little trip to an ideal area

That's actually a great map you are describing here! I LOVE a bit of a trek at the beginning, so when I finally arrive someplace I want to settle, I already have minerals for at least 4 tools, some seeds, fruit tree saplings and/or fruit bushes, some food reserves too. But I like to settle somewhere I don't need to venture too far out from later on. I'm very tempted to give it a try. And I'm so advanced in my current map already. Oh, choices, choices The last time I managed to "finish" (as in get steel) a map was in 0.79.15... I think I might do it anyway. Thanks for this post!
  6. [Solved] Bloomery problem

Yes, I removed the loose iron before I started to drop charcoal. I tried it your way - drop everything very fast. It works, but only when I *really* hit Q fast and switch fast between charcoal and iron. If I hesitate for a second there - it's stuck Soo... you kinda solved my problem, but I don't remember having to be so quick in 0.79.15.
  7. [Solved] Bloomery problem

I was sure I had updated forge... I updated to forge to 10.13.4.1448. Still, my bloomery will not swallow more charcoal. Waila says "ore: 16, charcoal: 4" and I cannot do anything. I guess I have to dig it out Update: I dug out the bloomery door, I dug out the charcoal and the molten blocks. I put the bloomery door in again. I put 8 charcoals on the bottom of the chimney. Went up, started dropping ore. Again, only 16 ore "sunk", the other 8 did not. I switched to charcoal, only 4 "sunk", the rest did not. So, it behaved exactly like last time. Only this time the forge is new and it's not snowing anymore. Frontal view of my bloomery:http://snag.gy/YSBK6.jpg
  8. Wooden buckets and barrel liquids

Okay, I can totally see that I'm evil that way, so I would let them poison themselves , but it IS a valid point. Anyway, this whole discussion just gave me a brilliant idea ... *goes away cackling evilly to look at her mod*
  9. Wooden buckets and barrel liquids

I couldn't at that point in that particular game (not to mention I didn't know it yet, I learned that MUCH later), but in general, you are right. It's something else. When I started to play TFC the first time, I had my nose in the wiki all the time. But after I learned the knapping patterns for basic tools by heart, I only glimpsed into the pottery patterns once, I saw that a pottery axe mold is a mirror image of knapped axe and I made a pottery knife mod without looking in the wiki at all. Logical. When I read about how to make brine and learned to use bucket, I was sure that I can transfer all barrel liquids by bucket. I did not check that I can't, because it also seemed logical. Now imagine a frustrated player, that has half hour of play left (because real life has demands, unfortunately) and that suddenly realises that they need to go find sand, make glass, make bottles. Yes, I agree, it can be done. There is a way in the game to do everything you want with that barrel of vodka. But the need to divide is real, not OCD and the logical way to do it would be like with any other liquid that can be transferred with a bucket. I can bet you a cute kitten picture that if you asked most TFC beginners, that just used their bucket for the first time to transfer vinegar in it, "are you able to do that with alcohol too?", they would say yes... You do as you want, I'm only trying to point out it's not only (not even mainly) players' OCD when they want to transfer liquids in buckets
  10. Greenhouse

Make your mod. Mine is not only about the greenhouse, I will let that code sit for now and focus on other stuff.
  11. Wooden buckets and barrel liquids

I once played on a server where food, for some reason, was scarce, plus I had the dubious luck of always connecting either in Autumn/Late Autumn or in Winter. I had some potatoes, some other vegetables and I lucked out - I found an orange tree. I had a bit more than 100 oz of oranges (the tree was next to a stone wall, so one side of it had no space to grow, hence the smaller than usual amount of fruit from a tree). I knew that the vegetables would probably last through the winter no problem, but the fruits decay faster. I had a brilliant thought - I'll use half of the oranges to make vinegar and preserve the other half. But, unfortunately, I used my potatoes to make a full barrel of vodka before I found the oranges. OK, no problem, I can use the bucket to divide 10000 mB of Vodka ... ooops, I can't... After that, I knew and I planned ahead, but it WAS frustrating and I saw absolutely no reason why alcohol cannot be transfered in a bucket except to make a player's life harder in a non-fun way. Now, when you say that wooden buckets are hardcoded I can see that you did not go out of your way to do that but still, I agree that all barrel liquids should be transferable in buckets whenever possible. It's ... logical. And TFC is otherwise a very logical mod, as much as a computer game can be.
  12. The Workshop

Maybe it's because I didn't have a basement? Serious now: it was not "an issue" it was ... a funny problem? I lack good words to describe it, english is NOT my first language after all. Hubertus => nice pics
  13. Trying to find sand!

Usually it's the opposite for me - too many oceans, not enough landmass. Can you post the seed of the map you are using?
  14. Greenhouse

LOL I'm in the middle of making a mod with a hothouse I guess first nobody wants to grab an idea, then everybody does it, huh?
  15. "the amount equal to the weights in the bowl will be cut and put in the right slot" - zero weights mean zero amount cut off from the source chunk. And nothing else but weights can be placed in the left bowl. Actualy I wanted this to be a pretty basic item, but one cannot add new molds to the pottery system, so the anvil was the only solution for keeping in the TFC spirit. The only thing we could do was to allow all the weights to be produced using the most basic anvil - the copper one.
  16. Building Materials

1288650528743312478 Z: -9884 Spawn point is in a forest, douglad fir, hickory and pine. Stone is phyllite, so should spawn tetrahedrite. About 250 blocks east the forest ends and a meadow starts. Big lakes, lots of flat surface, lots of food. Lots of game in the woods. At least 3 fruit trees are visible right when you leave the forest. The views are very nice all around. Lots of clay. +477, -10316 - a patch of marble (so flux stone) in the mountains with visible malachite vein. +400 -10385 - lots of small tetrahedrite lying around +560 - 10457 - limestone starts here Flying around not very far, I spotted coal, kaolinite, pigs, sheep, horses. No cows With cows it would be a paradise
  17. [0.79.?] Progression flowchart

Isn't necessary - yes. Important? I'm not sure I agree. I tend to start with farming before going fully into tech, especially when I play on a server and have to bear in mind that every time I log in, the season will change. A dozen barrels of various pickled foods (vegetables, fruits and proteins), plus several triangles of cheese and some grain allow me to concentrate fully on mining and constructing, instead of going hunting and gathering every so often. Maybe "how to get a larder full of food" should be a separate flowchart, with cross-referenced points, like quern, firepit, barrels and wooden buckets (or simply saying at which point you need to be in casting age to progress with food).
  18. [0.79.?] Progression flowchart

Add food gathering? You cannot do all that without half-starving OR eating
  19. So, this is a really silly question, I know, but yesterday I spent five minutes thinking what to do with my spare door so as not to keep it indefinitely in my inventory. In vanilla it's simple - you put it in a chest. TFC tries to be a bit more realistic, so we cannot store chests inside chests, barrels, big tools/weapons etc... Makes sense. Barrels you just put on the ground. For tools and weapons you make a rack. But what to do with a spare door I might (will) want to use much later in the game? Some would say - throw it away and let it despawn, it's just six planks. But maybe it's six planks of the kind of wood I have to travel halfway across the map to get (like kapok). I ended up "sticking" it to the side of my house, but it looks silly there. So, if anybody has some fun, aesthetically pleasing or otherwise unusual ideas about this silly little problem - please, share
  20. Same question today
  21. Is it only me, or is the server down?
  22. LOL, looks like you are gathering an European team IGN: Chogata AGE: 36 TIMEZONE: CEST (GMT+2 atm)WHY YOU WANT TO JOIN: I "discovered" TFC about 4-5 months ago, played on single and with hubby a lot, I think it might be nice to play on a server, and meet some other players on the map sometimes. INFORMATION ABOUT YOU: Girl, computer geek, didn't win the lottery so I have to work, but I usually manage to play for a couple of hours in the afternoons and longer on weekends. I play Minecraft A LOT. I wonder why I started on TFC so late
  23. Hello, I'm quite new to TFC, I've only been playing it for about 2 real time weeks and I started over several times due to poor choice of starting maps. But now I have a nice map and I'm quite advanced ... ... except I would like to have some farm animals that I can use (shear, milk), but I have troubles with that. I read this wiki page: http://wiki.terrafirmacraft.com/Animal_Husbandry#Familiarization I found a wild sheep and I tried to feed (her, I think). I tried with rye grains and oat grains. But no matter what I do, the animal does not eat the grain. I tried clicking (right and left), sneak-clicking (right and left). I ALWAYS get the "Animal won't let you do that" message. I read the changelog, but it did not make me any wiser I tried with a cow. Same result. I googled somewhere about sheep feeding themselves on grass and that to make them "hungry" one should keep them off grass. So I made a nice corral on cobblestone and enticed a couple of sheep and a cow inside. I tried for 3 in-game days to feed them (2-3 times a day). Same result. The familiarity indicator is all the time at the lowest level and they "won't let" me feed them. I'm probably doing something wrong, something really simple and stupid, but I have no idea what that might be. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
  24. [Solved] I need help with animal familiarization.

I use refined (after using a knife).
