Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  1. Boreal Forest Village

Yeah, I know, the grass is such a pain, especially in the distance. The filters start rolling in and the grass starts to look like some moss, whis is not only ugly, but also somewhat disgusting. Ughh But hey, I got used to that. The grass actually started to seem pretty... but only in winter... And yeah, the design is beautiful. I wanted to build something like that myself, but the wooden planks' walls would always cut my eyes. The whole idea ofreplacingthem with log piles itself... God, that's genius!
  2. Boreal Forest Village

Thanks! Spent quite some time working on it in creative world. I've actually changed it quite a bit. Added a circular staircase by both entrances, so it's easier to get on the top and looks much better. I'll post a screenshot as soon as I get down to updating the topic. Talking about the castle, yeah, I actually have. However, I do believe it's going to be hard to accomplish such a task, as the areathat my village occupies is relevantly large and exceeds my normal spawn protection radius. So, I either have to change the chunk spawn protection radius (which I have absolutely no idea of how to), or give up on an idea of a secluded castle, as mobs will keep spawning within the wall perimeter. Nevertheless, a castle will still be built anyway, but this village is going to be the land, that belongs to the castle, rather than the castle itself. (a castle will be somewhere nearby) I fould a nice spot for it a bit to the north of the village, closer to the sea. I also plan for this castle to have a port, so that I had some place to dock my ships.

To begin with I must say that I'm playing with a quite bit of mods and the MultiMC Instance of the modpackcan be downloaded HERE. It's a modified Bunsan's modpack (by the way, thank you so much for putting some stuff I couldn't togather). Tweaked some configs and added Carpenter's Blocks. Also planning to add Ships mod, but at the moment too lazy to do so. So, I've started a new game recently. You may have seen my other topic with a quite big town (steel age) going on there, but unfortunately my friends stopped playing so I had to start all over again in single player this time, and I must say that this time it was probably the best run I had so far. Not going to bother with much more text, here are some screenshots I took, tell me what you think. this is how it looks from the JourneyMap perspective. Here I decide to settle down. These are the very first days. Was really hyped about the discovery of Tetrahedrite vine right beneath my shed. Sawa house design by Mac4son the forum and just fell in love with it. Modified it a bit and started building. Found horses, cows and sheep nearby. Started working on a barn for them to stay in. As you have already seen, there are some hotsprings ringh outside my shed. This is very convinient, but it looked ugly, so a made an open bath. As soon as I got my hand on Cassetirite, I started building a Bloomery. There's only one functioning right now, but there'll be 3 by the end. And this is how it looked from different perspectives throughout the ingame year. Farming was going so well and I just couldn't cope with all the food I got from it. It was just decaying much faster than consumed, so I built a cellar. God, that took so much wood, clay and time. That's it for now. Gonna be adding new screenshots when I get some.

  6. Nobody likes Space Whales

Guys! I've got a CRAZZY idea! How about we take two space whales and CLONE them, so that when we kill ALL the wild space whales, we can still create more and KILL them! How 'bout that?
  7. Looking to study a town for a school assignment

This is actually what happens on my server. My friends and I (there's 4 of us) play togather on a private server hosted by me. We all have different roles. Me - Blacksmith, Miner. (get ore and make tools) Friend 1 - Builder, Terra-former. (gets the terrain done and builds on it) Friend 2 - Farmer, Shepherd, Butcher, Cook. (gets us food) Friend 3 - Explorer, Hunter, Harvester. (explores the world, hunts deer, goes fishing) Everybody has a task to do, always busy. A big two-story house can fit us all in quite well. We have a farm with grain and vegetables, we have a garden with trees and bushes, and out explorer brings us venison from time to time. Many different storage buildings help us sort our resorses. A big blacksmith provides all the facilities needed for the production of steel and can store up to 128 ingots of each type. We have a barn for the cattle, watermill for our grain (just decoration building), water sawmill for logs (just decoration aswell). We have a tower for observation. Out town's frontier is a big earthen shaft, but we are planning to make a descent stone brick wall. You can check the develompent of this town here.
  8. Overpowerd planks ?

I actually thought about it too, but in a different way. There is a thing that you can place lumber planks separately, and to fill a full block with lumber, you need 64 lumber, but in crafting only 4, and I thought that's it's kinda dumb. I know it may ruin the balance, but if would have been cool if there was a way to turn these "realistic settings" on and off. This would fulfill the needs of normal and hardcore players.
  9. Another World

Yeah, i did. I liked this feature at first time, but it's still buggy (torch goes out but it still light the area) and i hate when these graphical bugs occur. I'l turn this feature on again as soon as this graphical bug gets fixed.
  10. Nobody likes Space Whales

But wat if we no kill 'em butt enslave 'em, so dat spaseships wil' no longer have to have engines. They'l move with help of slave-spacewhales.
  11. Nobody likes Space Whales

I did. They liked it and called me their king. Then my whole family was killed by sea whales for no reason. Suspecious? Nah, just councidence
  12. My Terrafirmacraft portfolio

    I love this roof
  13. [TFC 0.79.17] Anvil Calculator

Ive made so many tools now that I remember every single hit. I can make a pickaxe with my eyes closed. And if i change the world, I will be able to start from the red arrow, so that the recepie (for example) for a wrough iron sheet is: Punch; Bend; L.Hit; L.Hit; L.Hit.
  14. Another World

At the right? You mean that flat area covered with cobblestone? It already is a forestry. I grow trees there. Currently there are 3 trees in use: Pine, Hickory, Birch.
  15. Another World

Now can take a screenshot off the tower. Looks cool. --
