Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  1. Release Date? Soon?

That's awesome to hear. I'll be sure to download the first release, as soon as you push it out, but take your time, as you Need it. Waited over 2 years for this, a few days more aren't bad anymore.
  2. Release Date? Soon?

I'd love to test pretty much anything with TFC2. If it's just some world gen with some torch crafting, I'm happy to help test that, as I always was in early TFC days.
  3. where did all the evil mobs go

    nice trap btw.
  4. [0.77.11] Crucible Mixing bug?

How about a hidden mechanic, where each alloy may be made with iteself for like 0-20%? So if you'd accidentially added some of its own alloy to it, it would be possible to still use all the metal you got liquid? you'd still have to meet the other ammounts, but it wouldn't matter if you got some percents of itself in the crucible.
  5. Donations

Since when do we have that big green donation button? Must've overlooked that. Here have 20.- keep the great work up.
  6. Well... i don't really see the problem. There may be a lot of clay, but you need at least 4 logs and 4 straw to fire 1 clay item (if you're making 4 at a time that is). Further: Clay molds, Cast molds (always) and jugs can break on usage. So you will need to refire stuff constantly. To loose each ingot mold after getting an ingot out would be very extreme, since you'd use more wood on firing clay than on making charcoal.
  7. Id just like to say...

    Chemistry actually.
  8. Variable Day/Night Length in B77

Day length has been removed cause it caused all kinds of problems with the game. p.s. set your year to 864 days and you got 1 Real life day = 1 Month.
  9. How to make metal sheets in 77

Obvious question: Is the ingot hot enough to be hammered?
  10. Metal Dupe Bug

i can 2nd that bug report. A partially filled mold also gets filled immediately if you add another piece of ore.
  11. Looking for Help with Pottery

Do you have the clay items in your hand when you right click, and do not right click on an object which you can interact with? (Chest, crafting table...)
  12. strange tree

They are quite rare, yes. But if you find one and can get saplings from it, you can then multiply them and get tons of food. Though its only once a year time to harvest. (some leaves may regrow through harvesting season though.
  13. strange tree

Sounds like a fruit tree to me.
  14. Sticky piston easter egg?

quite simple: you did NOT delete your config before updating TFC, did you?
  15. With the recent changes in Metallurgy we don't need a copper anvil anymore to make bronze tools. It is quite easy to make bronze first before even having molten one copper ingot. (At least i have more problems finding copper than cassiterite) Though if i want to proceed to the bloomery, i do have to make a copper anvil first, then a bronze anvil to make 8 bronze sheets for the bloomery. Which doesen't make much sense, to have an anvil more just to make some sheets. So my suggestion would be to either make it possible to work T2 metals on a copper anvil or to make bronze weldable but not workable on a T0 anvil. Either way would remove the need to make two anvil solely to make T2 sheets.
  16. Build 77

It really depends massivly on where you are.I for example am swimming in Bismuth, Sphal and Cassiterite but got barely enough copper to make a bloomery. That is the problem of Singleplayer with TFC, which i'm fine with, even though i don't play SMP often.
  17. Suggestion: Merge T1 and T2 metal working

that'll be fine too... once i find graphite.
  18. Suggestion: Merge T1 and T2 metal working

Oh i wouldn't completly exclude that. The melting of copper and bronze got a LOT LOT LOT easier... i can now melt up to 64 ingots with 16 logs (4 filled bowls), get them in 4 handy containers, where it stays warm forever and can pour it whenever i need it. Just saying. It just doesent make sense the way the system is now. i can cast bronze tools from the beginning but i can't weld 2 ingots together before making a copper anvil?
  19. T1 container: Straw basket.

Why aren't you able to create ceramics apart from not finding clay? (look for yellow flowers, lots of em near bodies of water, there's quite a lot of it)
  20. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

[Discussion in german about the right words to use] Dann halt nochmal in deutsch für dich.
  21. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

I must correct you on some points, where your correction is quite wrong. The word "Gediegen" is the perfect translation and i would absolutly use this word, since it is the only correct word to describe that form of an "ore". ( see this page for a clearer explanation and usage of this word in german: ) The translation are correct, though it may seem wierd because the word was not declinated, but it doesen't need to be. second i'd like to mention that the term "Rennofen" is indeed the correct name for such a device. Even if the word seems to come from running, this is the name this oven has. ( See this wiki page for a nice explanation : you will see, that if you hit the english version of this article you will get to the bloomery ) I did not go through the whole set of names, just the changes you mentioned. The rest sounds good to me.
  22. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

yep it ain't. After reconsidering the numbers, it's quite obvious what they are and since its about the only place where the game tells you exact numbers, doesen't hurt in any way. @stephane try this page:
  23. Thirst saturation and filling There you go with an ancient refrigerator.
  24. 0.77.11 bug and translation mistake

Yep that's what i figured out too after processing full ores, but i didn't want to spill numbers in here.
  25. Make logs stack similarly to ores

This has almost been dealt with, since you can't place a logpile above an empty space or a non full logpile anymore.
