      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Thought Id share this simple, cheap and decent looking first home design I developed loosely based on the long barrows and roundhouses of stone age Europe. It can be built quite quickly with readily available materials and holds everything you need for the early game. (havnt reached late game yet myself so not sure on whats needed there ) Start off by clearing a reasonable sized flat area, 20x20 is more then enough. Lay down logs as shown, I find 13 long to be a good number for interior space without being overly large. For the next section I find using fence posts as scaffolding quite handy, they are easy to make, dont react to gravity and break easily with an axe unlike logs. Add on the roof like so. With sidewalls and roof done all there is left to keep the nasties out is a front and back. Now you have a safe place to call home its time to get onto the aesthetics, a log box is safe- but its not very pretty, Dig out the floor except for a 2 wide section at the end for your bed. Use some planks to build some steps and a railing. Add in some chests, tool racks, cooking bench and cut out a litte alcove for a fireplace (you can use fence posts for the fireplace framing until you get a saw to make support beams,) This place is starting to look like a home. Cover the outside of the building in the dirt you picked up clearing the land, in time grass will spread over the builing and it will begin to blend into the environment. Now we have the basics down, time to move on to the next level. A simple extension off the side using the same building methods. Add in a chimney set back into the wall for the forge, setting it back allows for the forge to see the sky while not being directly exposed to rain. You can use planks as braces to stop dirt falling down where you dont want it- in this case the chimney- but also on the building ends to hold the dirt up. The forge doesnt count the planks as a solid block so they dont block the chimney. Inside set up your forge, some storage and tool racks, to save space you can use your stone anvil as a part of the Forge construction. Note the postioning, the chimney is not directly above the forge, but above the middle back block. Adding on a small scale bloomery is simply a matter of cutting away some dirt cover near the chimney and putting it in the gap. Add in some supports to pretty up the entrance and there you have a smithy with everything you need. Over time grass will grow over the entire building, leaving only the wood ends exposed, blending into the landscape organically leaving you with a fully functional cosy home to wait out the coming winter, or at least until you build something better Here's one I prepared earlier.
  2. Shields a defensive weapon

People are overthinking this. We have the option now to mount objects on the player -see barrels. Mount a model off the left arm, change the block animation that already exists to use that arm/create basic block animation, add in when blocking with shield equipped then damage is reduced/blocked for durability. Now I know its not as simple as that, but the ideas being thrown around about hot bars etc are just over complication.
  3. Ceramic bowls - another tedium

I agree it doesnt make sense, at the same time however it creates a real ongoing demand for pottery which previously was mostly fire and forget.
  4. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

IGN: Vaelkyri Age: 30 Why this server?: Played on Rhos server a few times way back, never for long but during those times I found the server stable and the community positive and mature. Looking to try out the new build in MP and cant think of a better place. 2 sentence description of yourself/interests: Stubborn old coot who likes cheap scotch, expensive chocolate and cheesy power metal. Can skin a rabbit with my bare hands and at the same time discuss how the development of the Mongolian empire in the 13th century led to the evolution of the modern day capitalist middle class. Days are spent working in a plant nursery, spare time is spent as a leader in a well respected (if small) Australian planetside2 outfit.
  5. Version #: 79.7 SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SMP Suggested Name: Armour stands, still borked. Suggested Category: Severe Description: Placing a sycamore armour stand places the item but does not remove from inventory, the number 147 appears in the chat window. Right clicking the armour stand that is placed shuts down the server. No crash logs avail client side, only server side. Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes If yes, which mods? 6. 3d models, yay, nay, addons?

To save necroing up posts 6+ months old figured I start a new discussion purely on the possibility of 3d models- namely for objects such as the Firepit and Pottery items. Current state of affairs- Is it possible? Yes-(at least so I understand) Is it needed? Not really, the current system works Is it worthwhile? Personal preference, In my opinion the fidelity of a mod greatly enhances the immersion and believeability - looking at the quality of mods such as Ars Magica, Thuamcraft, even the little know Witchery mod the detailed models implemented for blocks and objects puts TFCs spinning sprites to shame. Pros: Increased fidelity, higher quality and more immersive experience. Cons: possibly some performance issues, Bioxx reportedly (according to Dunk) doesnt want them.(?) (personal note: the fact that things like ingot piles are modeled and other objects are sprites creates a very jarring discontinuity) That said- if they wouldn't go into base mod due to the creators dislike, would modelers and modders be interested in creating an addon to convert the entities into .obj's ?
  7. 3d models, yay, nay, addons?

Soo, any chance of getting an addon pack assembled with the models? (notice the ladders have depth as well) as for the logs being fully accurate, that was the level of pedantry that killed the idea last time
  8. Custom Render - Firepit

So. uh. Huge necro here, but did any progress ever get made on this?
  9. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

Sounds good, Ive been experimenting with my Barrow build style in creative, got some big plans So far Ive avoided going all out on the server, nice home and some farming is about all.
  10. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

    Ah well, beta is beta
  11. Maize failure to grow offline.

Just checking in, been planting quite a few different crops and rotating/allowing groud to lie fallow correctly. Despite my best efforts maize seems to fail to grow beyond 1st level when all other crops ripen normally. Not sure if its due to me being too far north (-14200) or if it is not correctly growing in unloaded chunks while I am offline.
  12. Fishing

Just throwing this out there, IRL the best way to to catch crayfish (fresh and saltwater) is with rotten meat. Maybe some kind of fishtrap crafted with sticks+ yarn in a 3x3 and baited with rotten flsh/raw meat that can be placed in water ?
  13. Barrels, help!

Yep process is: Rawhide into limewater = soaked hide Soaked hide + kife = scrapped hide. Scrapped hide into water = prepared hide. Prepared hide +into Tanin = leather.
  14. Idea! firepits!

    3d model would be nice.
  15. Last post before yours was 8 months ago.
  16. Just a little update with a house Ive been in for a few days showing how you can customise the interior to make it more a Home then a Hovel.
  17. Click on any non dirt block with a knife, it will turn it into a food prep bench where you can combine 4 different ingredients in a wooden bowl to make a meal you can heat up for extra hunger/duration/effect http://terrafirmacra...wiki/Food#Meals
  18. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

Running again now. I have a suspicion that my animals are causing lag when they have babies- addition of new tracked enitities etc- Ill thin them back to just base stock and not breed for a few years to see how things go. Im not mass breeding just one pair pigs, one pair chickens a year- but when ever I do a cull the lag in my area goes waaay down.
  19. Animal Breeding?

Nearly 3 stacks worth, lets just say I have plenty of tribute to pay to the lady/lord of the land.
  20. Animal Breeding?

Just a warning to people, when breeding pigs be careful- they actually have proper litters not just the standard MC one piglet only. I went from 2 breeding pairs to nearly 30 pigs. >.<
  21. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

As for year length, Id be happy with a year that took several days- it would allow people on off time (re: me ) to farm/breed etc as well as experience the seasons fully. Instead of logging out in middle of spring and coming back to mid winter that afternoon. Frantics numbers look pretty solid, a 1 week year would give the seasons real impact,- winter would require stocking up and preperation. Slow growth of crops/long gestation periods would make food require more management. It would also give people playing at different timesa chance to manage crops. ~2 RL days of winter would seem pretty harsh, but well.. winter is harsh.
  22. [0.79.15] Rhodance's "HugBox" Server [Closing May 22]

Not sure if its on my end (Au connection) or if the issues arnt fully resolved, having some connection probs/drop out. Server connection is bouncing between 1 bar, 4 bars and none. Edit: Seems to have stabilised now.
  23. http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/topic/1747-x64-h3d-texture-322-tfc-build-7616-updated-05-10-13/ You'll def need optifine to run it smoothly.
  24. How to get old versions of files

The URL shortener seems to cut out a lot of the link info, can I request an edit with the HTTP spaced away so we can see the full text? You can open in new window to get it, but some link to direct downloads. Forge/API/MC version is pretty easy to track down, but TFC doesnt seem to have any documented archive anywhere- there obviously is one, its just not listed anywhere. All in all good info, thankyou very much. Should make things easier for people, how does I request sticky?
