Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  1. Username: manningliuAge: 15Location: The great wide northern land by the name of CanadaWhy do you like to play TFC? I always like minecraft with mods, it keeps things interesting. That being said, the survival mode is pretty much creative mode on hard, I like the difficulty and complexity TFC adds. Why do you want to join? I've only recently gotten the mod and I feel like I need someone to play with me.What will you add to the server? Chances are I'm probably only going to build a house or something and just chill, but you never know, I might just be the chosen one.
  2. The OLD Roanoke Thread

I have smart moving, but server says I don't and won't let me on. Never mind, you're server is using and older version of Smart Moving... It would be great if you update to the latest version of Player API and Smart Moving.

  4. The OLD Roanoke Thread

Can you whitelist me? My name is: manningliu Also, could you update to 1.4.6? I think TFC is updated. So is Smart Moving.
  5. Better Shelters For Nomads

    You play touhou? nice...
  6. Better Shelters For Nomads

everyone, please get this suggestion to Bioxx asap. I would really like to see the end of burying yourself... and also running out of air when buried...... > (not as in suffocation in a block, as in when a mine collapses and you run out of oxygen/oxygen gets cut off) that somehow made me think of Subterranean Animism... think I'm gonna go play that now.
  7. Better Shelters For Nomads

I really like roaming the Minecraft world to see what adventures it will bring. As a wanderer, I'm pretty good at making shelters out of whatever is there. But I like my shelters to look good, so I almost never dig 1x1x3 dirt holes. But having to cut down tree after tree just to make my shelter look like a shelter is very frustrating to me and sometimes I feel like a wood cabin is the only option given for a shelter to look good. So I have two suggestions for shelter solutions that looks better than a 1x1x3 hole with a log on top. 1. Leaf housing and tents: When leaf blocks are broken, they have a chance to drop branches and saplins instead of sticks and saplins. (why would a tree drop perfectly carved out sticks anyways.) The branches sprite will look like any branch with some leaves on it and the branches can be used to do 4 things. Used as a handle for a knife head (and only a knife head), be processed into a stick with a knife, placed on the ground to support branch clusters (They act the same way as torches when placed, but can be stacked like fences. They can be placed on other branch clusters.), and make a branch Cluster block by combining 3 branches. This block can be placed like a dirt block, but will be supported by a placed branch. 2. Mud Huts: The current dirt block in TFC falls off edges and is impossible to make a shelter with. I think mud huts are a balanced way to make dirt shelters. It would involve the aforementioned branches and water. Dirt will become mud blocks over time if it stays under water for a few minutes and act the same way as dirt. when combined with 2 branchs, it will become a muddy cluster. Muddy cluster fall the same way dirt does. But if you cook it in a firepit, it will become a hardened mud block. These will not fall as long as it has another hardended mud block directly under it and can be broken by any tool but can't be recovered. (ever try punching one of dem mud huts?) Now you may be wondering, how am I suppose to make a roof? You simply place a branch on the inside of your house and make a pyramid of branch clusters. If this is implemented, temporary shelters will look much nicer. You will never go back to burying yourself ever again. (P.S. Placed branches will be passable like torches and will be less obstructive than fences) Pics, cobble is the hardened mud, sponges are the branch clusters, fences are the branches. These are cross sections. Getting sick from weather is also a good idea... And here are more pics of what I'm trying to have Bioxx put in the game.
  8. More Realistic Campfire/Firepit

exactly why I said to buff the forge and nerf the campfire and if you take a scyth to a sequoia tree then you'll come to realise that sticks are not really that hard to get 1. you ever try to melt metal in your fireplace? it would either take an insane amount of time or just wouldn't work.2. how would you like to take turns cooking stuff when theres this many people? 3. exactly why I said to buff the forge and nerf the campfire and if you take a scyth to a sequoia tree then you'll come to realise that sticks are not really that hard to get I got a better idea... SMOKE BLOCKS! they will always try to rise up and will act like water(except goes up instead of down) and will eventually fill up the whole place if you don't let them out. they will suffocate you. I think this ideas if much better than having to have your fire have a direct pathway to the sky
  9. More Realistic Campfire/Firepit

What do you mean by multiple input slots take away form the process? and by holding a piece of meat in your hand and cooking it, I didn't mean cooking something in the inventory. Its just that, putting something into the campfire to cook it without anything to hold it out of the fire kind of feels like the player is holding the meat with his bare hands and cooking it. and it makes sense that you can cook more than one item in one square metre of fire
  10. More Realistic Campfire/Firepit

The way the fireput works right now is just fine, but I think it should have multiple input slots. That way, when we roast fish around the campfire, we don't have to take turns anymore. Also, make it so that you need to put food in a pot, pan, or on a stick (KABOBS!!! ) to cook it. Because it doesn't make any sense to just be able to hold a piece of meat over a fire or to throw it in the fire and have it end well. Lastly, make it so that only the forge and Bloomery can smelt metal, make the max temp on a campfire Very Hot. (just one level before the melting point of bismuth) (maybe increase the forge's temp?)
  11. When two molds with lquid metal in them are combined, you supposedly pour the metal in one mold into the other. But, when half-filled molds are crafted together, the original molds are lost. So please make it so that the molds are preserved when crafting. (the way buckets are) Also, if you can, make it possible to put half-filled molds back into the output slot of the firepit so that it can catch more metal to fill it. And maybe preserve molds after shaping an ingot
  12. World Generates Without Stone That Can Make Anvils

I meant non of them had any igneouse intrusive or igneouse extrusive stone, I know how to get stone its just non of the worlds held the right type of stone
  13. I already Generated 5 worlds and non of them had the right stone type to make anvils with, what do I do?
  14. New Health and Medicine System

go check out the project zomboid moodlets, theres broken bones, and colds and all that random stuff
  15. that was what I was thinking of, cheaper armor, something to put in your armor slot before you get enough metal for solid plates of metal that make you a walking tank and maybe wood armor would require leather straps or something simmilar
