Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  1. Apparently there are two TFC 0.79.29.922 versions floating around. It has been brought to our attention that the TFC devs released a hot fix for this version without increasing the version number. Because of this we've been running a buggy version of TFC for almost two years. But fortunately this has only affected seven and a half thousand TFC players or so who had to use a scythe to harvest their crops. It's not the first time our server had a crazy quirk like that. Remember when we had "black gold" on our server? We'll just chalk this one up as being part of the HappyDiggers TFC charm Now that we are running the new, same version. Harvesting crops should go a bit better.
  2. The HappyDiggers TFC server attempts to stay as close as possible to the TFC experience. Players joining only need to have the latest TFC installed. The Freebie TFC has no whitelist and is open to anyone as long as they are friendly to other players and the staff. Players who enjoy our little community and are willing to support us with donations get access to our huge donor servers. Please read through the information below and follow the rules. Rules Features Server specs Server IP: tfc.happydiggers.net:4000 TeamSpeak: ts.happydiggers.net Dynmap for Freebie TFC world: http://freebietfc.happydiggers.net (Anyone can view the map. To chat it requires in-game registration using /dynmap webregister) Dynmap for Donor TFC Regular: http://donortfc.happydiggers.net Dynmap for Donor Hardcore TFC world: http://tfchc.happydiggers.net Dynmap for Donor TechnodeFirmaCraft world: http://donortnfc.happydiggers.net Twitter: http://twitter.com/HappyDiggers YouTube: http://youtube.com/HappyDiggers Donors may join the TechnodeFirmaCraft server on donortnfc.happydiggers.net:3000 This server runs the TechnodeFirmaCraft mod pack which uses an unofficial copy of TFC. The mod pack is available on the AT Launcher. See our Servers page for the current version of TnFC that we're using and the correct share code. The TerraFirmaCraft website and forums are not the place to ask for support for anything related to the TechnodeFirmaCraft mod pack. 3. The server owner hasn't replied to this thread since October 6th and hasn't been on these forums since October 25th. That probably means this server is dead :/
  4. As some of you may know I've not been well the past two weeks. Because of that I haven't done much work on the new server (sorry!). I've added most of the stuff that needs protecting with Towny and Lockette and am now generating tiles in Dynmap. Once that is done I'll select a location for the spawn building and maze, put it in and get things ready for the testers to join. In the mean time, do me a favor and send me your Minecraft in game name so I can add you to the whitelist if you are willing to do test work.
  5. The world is centered on x: 0.5 z: -14999.5. Before we used to have a 100.000 x 100.000 world cetered around x: 0.5 z: 0.5. Most of that world was just wasted disk space. Now we have, what we think, is the most ideal part of the TFC world. There are jungles to the south and frozen wasteland to the north with all of the temperate climate area in between. And if needed we can always expand it horizontally like we did on the FreebieTFC server recently.
  6. Work has begun on a new public HappyDiggers TnFC server. As some of you may know we already host a Donor TnFC server which is currently outdated. The new public server will be replacing the Donor server. And as the name suggests, no donations are required for joining this new server. I've generated a 100.000 x 30.000 block world. This took a long time. The server is currently being uploaded and I'll begin the process of setting up all the mods and plugins that we also use for our regular TFC servers. Since it'll be a public server we want it to use a bunch of plugins to make the lives of staff members easier. This means the server will be running on KCauldron and that means quirks and bugs. If you want to get an idea of how we run our public TFC servers, you're welcome to try our current TFC server at tfc.happydiggers.net:4000 The next step will be to start play testing. Play testing should start in one or two weeks. For this I'm looking for a couple of volunteers. Preferably veterans of the official TnFC server. Play testing means we'll spawn in a bunch of resources and player will have to sprint through the various tech trees to figure out what works and what doesn't. No time for exploration and base building at this stage. Just setting up machines, testing mechanics, that sort of stuff. We'll require people to leave a short summary or report of each play session. Nothing too complicated. Just what you did and if it worked or not: build machine X, tried mechanic Y, etc. If anyone's interested please leave a reply and tell us about your experience with TnFC and if you're willing to do boring test work. Again, we are not looking for players at this point. If you want to play TnFC on our server, please be patient.
  7. [Solved] Crash after Starting a Map (singleplayer)

You may also want to increase the memory allocated for your TFC instance. Right now it seems to be set to 1024MB. If you have the RAM, try setting it to 2048MB or even 4096MB. Like TonyLiberatto mentioned. MultiMC really is nice for this soft of thing. You can set memory allocation on a per Minecraft instance basis if you want or even have global settings so each instance would use 4096MB for example.
  8. A bit of bad news... It has come to our attention that a lot of towns, even well established ones, are breaking the rules when it comes to town limits. We have rules about how much stuff each town can have: 8 adult animals total. Each animal needs to be in its own 16x16 pen in it own chunk fenced in, the fence can have small sections for gates. 3 plots of tilled soil farmland or berry bushes. This means 768 blocks. They may be in more than three plots, but 768 max. Can be mixed between the two. 8 fruit trees. (All kinds allowed: red apple, green apple, banana, peach, etc.) 1 of each kind of anvil. (copper, bronze, wrought iron, steel, etc.) 2 outposts 1 /sethome point per player These rules are there to keep the server running smoothly and to prevent crashes. When we find people breaking these rules we will tell them to remove the excess stuff. If they don't comply promptly they will no face a jail time of 1 hour per item over the limit.
  9. I have begun generating a new world for TechNodeFirmaCraft 3.5. It's very slow going, even slower than TFC. Which makes sense since it's TFC + a ton of other mods Once the world is done generating I'll start setting up the server instance that is going to run on our server hardware. When that is done we'll need a bunch of people to start play testing to see how much stuff is broken.
  10. After we migrated the HappyDiggers website to a new platform the TeamSpeak widget broke. For the past couple of months I had been unable to remedy that situation. Yesterday I put in a bunch more hours and finally got it fixed. So now, once again, you can see our TeamSpeak channels on the left on our home page. Feeling chatty? Want to engage our community some more? Planning your next great build? Please join! Our TeamSpeak server address is: ts.happydiggers.net And yes, we still use TeamSpeak. Even though a lot of people enjoy using things like Discord. Reason being that we believe privacy is one of the most precious things that we have and I don't want shady companies to profit from yours. So if you have a conversation with someone, I don't want to sell that data. It's the same reason there aren't any banners on our website.
  11. Almost that time of year again

http://gaben.happydiggers.net/ So what are you looking forward to?
  12. Dom told me the following: Please check and let me know if things are in order now.
  13. The world size of the Freebie TFC server has been increased. It is now 100.000 blocks wide making it five times wider than before. Have fun with all that new space Oh, I've also decreased teleport cool down time to 30 seconds. Enjoy! tfc.happydiggers.net:4000
  14. Invisible grass

TFC needs Optifine if you want to play on servers. They go very well together in fact. You mention that you also have this issue when only using TFC without Optifine. Which version of TFC are you using? There used to be an issue with TFC where this would happen quite a while ago. Make sure you are using the latest version of TFC and the correct version of Forge. You can find exactly which versions you should use on the downloads page: http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/download.html/ Currently: TFC Beta 0.79.29.922 For MC v1.7.10 (Built using Minecraft Forge v10.13.4.1558)
  15. Command does not work

We use command blocks on our server to spawn entities with TFC properties. You should be able to set player properties with them as well.
  16. Friendly mobs randomly stop being interactable

You should ask this question on the TechnodeFirmacraft subreddit or their forum: https://www.reddit.com/r/Technode/ http://technode.enjin.com/
  17. Generating a 100.000 x 100.000 block world takes about 4 weeks on a fast computer. If you want to do roughly a quarter of that (25K x 25K) then be prepared to keep your PC running for about a week or so. Also keep in mind that TFC servers leak memory like a colander when generating a lot of chunks so you'll need to restart the server every few hours. If you do not then chunk generation will go down from 200~500/s to maybe a dozen per second. As for servers either growing or dying. Our server seems to have reached some kind of equilibrium. Our servers are visited by roughly 200 individual players who accumulate roughly 60 days worth of non-AFK play time monthly. Last July we saw a distinct peak of 364 days of non-AFK play time but that was probably due to summer holidays.
  18. I'm going to do some testing with the current version of TnFC. This will take time and we may not end up with a working public server at all. Be patient. In the mean time. If anyone has any good ideas they'd like to voice. Please feel free to do so.
  19. TFC and RotaryCraft

If you install the mods on your own client, you don't need permission. You only need permission when you create a mod pack that you want to share with others. This means you can put the mods together and see which problems you encounter. Things that come to mind are world generation, over powered mechanics and ambient biome temperatures. Some machines need to be cold, others need to be hot. Placing them in a biome that is either too hot or too cold can be detrimental. And since Rotarycraft has some very powerful machinery the jump from TFC's hand forged tools to Rotarycraft's high tech machinery will be huge. Try playing through the Rotarycraft tech tree with TFC installed and see if it works. Rotarycraft is a really nice mod that we were fortunate enough to get permission for to include in our HappyDiggers AMP mod pack back in Minecraft 1.6.4 before Reika even allowed his mods in mod packs in general. Rotarycraft is also a more technical mod in the sense that it's a bit more difficult to understand it's mechanics than other tech mods like Buildcraft, Industrialcraft, GregTech, EnderIO, Mekanism, etc. If you ask me that also makes it a potentially good fit for TFC. Not everything has to be easy
  20. TFC1 1.12+ port

This is great news Minecraft 1.12 offers a lot of really nice improvements for both client and server. Really happy that you want to support Sponge. We would definitely run a public server if a somewhat stable port comes out. We've never had problems with running beta releases in the past. Having an issue tracker (Github works well) so we can provide bug reports and Jenkins for faster turn around on bug fixes would be appreciated.
  21. Sorry, no. That would require players to install this mod on their clients. We have always kept our servers TFC only and expanded functionality through Bukkit plugins to keep it as easy as possible for players to join.
  22. I just noticed the official TechnodeFirmacraft server has shut down. We had planned to replace our Donor TnFC server with a FTB mod pack server. TnFC is a special mod pack. I'm considering opening a small public server instead if there are enough people interested and we can find one or two moderators willing to monitor the server. Before moving on with this I'd like to get some input first. So if you're interested in a public TnFC server, let me know.
  23. Seeking Small and Friendly Server

A lot of people think that. It's not true. Not by a long shot. In reality less than 1% of resources has been mined. A lot of people just aren't very good at finding and mining ore. So if it's not handed to them on a platter, they give up. Zooming in on the map also helps. Things look way less crowded when you get a little closer. Funny thing is. We doubled the minimum distance between towns from our previous server. It seems people just aren't happy unless they get a vast empty world to play in. But when they get exactly that, they complain that there's nobody around. We can never do it right We are going to be expanding the map in the near future, see on of my last posts in our server thread. You can already see the new landmass on Dynmap beyond the border on the left and right. So anyone thinking there aren't any resources left should be happy with that.
  24. Seeking Small and Friendly Server

TFC is slowly dying down. As a result of that you will not find servers that have 30 players online all at once. The best you get right now are a dozen or so during busy hours. That being said, you are welcome to try out the HappyDiggers servers. See link in my signature to the server's thread on this forum.
  25. Sorry no, that will never happen. I suggest that you buy Minecraft if you like the game.
