      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Braziers -heating (and cooking)

Ok you win. This is your tread and is about braziers. I apologize for upsetting you. My intention was to contribute on the topic and discussion on the whole cooking system. I can appreciate your proposal as it adds to the game. Peace.
  2. Braziers -heating (and cooking)

Are you implying on having a brazier as a structure to be placed over the firepit or forge so we would add the combustible to the firepit or forge instead of having to add wood or coal to the brazier itself? I think that's a good idea. and more plausible. What about the use of cooking stones for early game? Any stone surrounding the fire pit would work as a cooking stone where we could place ( sneak right click) a steak and have it cooked. I think is better than putting the meat straight into the fire as we do now. Whatever materials would be used for making the Brazier they would not be available for early game. We still need to consider the cauldron for soups and stews. So this way out of the cave the only thing steve can cook is meat and anything else will need improved cooking devices. Man we really need the oven.
  3. Braziers -heating (and cooking)

I still think a stove would make more sense. braziers are usually used outside for example when camping. Historically the first people would cook over open fires using the tree stones and latter some kind of tripod to support a pan or cauldron. Stone and cast iron wood stove came latter. so i think and idea would be to create a clay cauldron and wood tripod that would be placed over a fire pit for early game cooking. And a stone stove that would let us more elaborate recipes including all kinds of bread. since iron is a late game technology the iron made brazier makes no sense. for a history of the oven http://inventors.about.com/od/ofamousinventions/a/oven.htm for a history of cookinghttp://allthatcooking.com/history-of-cooking/ of note is 25 to 200 AD One of the first applications of metals was to build a stove. Cast iron was used for this purpose in China, through a process in which melted iron was poured into sand moulds. So well into the acceptable time table for TFC. Please have in mind that even though I disagree with the idea of a brazier ( basically because i fhink it makes no sense to bake bread on it) I totally agree with you on the necessity of a cooking block in the game. If a new block is going to be added lets make it so is oven and cook top all in one or we need two blocks. Nobody IRL is going to trow meat into a open fire and get a barbecue some kind of device is needed. Also most foods need to be cooked forconsumption specially hard grains. So historically the first men cooked over open fire with the roasting spit and the food over hot stones. A huge progress was the use of clay to make pots andcauldronsinitially set on top of 3 rocks arranged over the fire. latter came thetripodso the cauldron would hang over the fire. Then came the invention of the stone mason stove. A iron cast stove is better than stone in how it distributes the heat so if created in game it would use less fuel for the same amount of heat. .
  4. Implementing Colored Glass, Stained Glass, and Glassblowing!

Again dunk I like the idea of using minerals for dyes. I think it really contributes for the believably of the system. But most players only care about having the colored glass block to use in their buildings. So if it would be so much harder to code the mineral dyes that we would not have the stained glass please use the existing dyes. scratch all that. to think about, nobody needs stained glass. It should be a symbol of wealth and not possible to obtain before steel I have no idea how those mineral were crushed historically did they just use a stone grinder? should a quern be able to crush metals like gold and copper or do we need a different thing? Maybe a grinder made of iron or steel? It would be a easy way to prevent starting players to have access to stained glass. I know we had stained glass by meddle age but only very rich people could afford it.
  5. Ranching: tending to your animals

One of the things I think should be consider when talking about animals eating crops is the initial gameplay. Would that make it even harder for the player to find crops? I have no problem with fencing my farms Witch I already do just because I don't want mobs roaming around. Maybe a solution would be to have the animals eat the grain or vegetable but not destroying the plant just bringing it back to a stage before maturity. This way there would be no change in how hard it is to find vegetables and grains since when you are exploring what matters is to get the seeds for your farm. I know IRL many animals would eat the whole plant but this is a game after all.
  6. Transportation Infrastructure

I think if we were to have dirt roads we should make the shovel have modes to use a compacting mode to create compacted dirt blocks. That said I rather have roads only made of cobble and brick ( wood and smooth stone for bridges ) than not have just because it would be harder to code the new dirt blocks and shovel mode feature. So forget about dirt roads, but please consider other materials if it would be easier to implement.
  7. Ranching: tending to your animals

One of the things i like about this change is that it would give a reason to have bigger grain farms. maybe even a reason to use the scythe in harvesting.
  8. Transportation Infrastructure

Just trowing something else on the discussion. How can we solve the issue with mountains. The options are going around, over or under. Going around makes the distance a lot longer (more materials and Terraforming ). Going over ads the slope and if we want to be believable we should not go as fast up hill.(maybe going faster down hill to compensate? ). Going under adds the cost in tools and time to mine stone. I love terraforming and making roads but when I get to a mountain is really hard to decido what to do.
  9. TerraFirma+ : Animals & Carts

For a different source of dairy goat milk and cheese.
  10. Buckets and fishing

I like the idea of rethinking the whole fishing experience. If you think about, the fishing rod is a new invention. Old civilizations use to fish by spear and trapping and latter on with the use of nets. If you want to add bait we need to first add worms and crickets that would spawn only close to fresh water. We could maybe cut a fish into 16 small pieces to use as bait. I don't like the idea of using zombie rotten flesh for anything is just plain disgusting. If we want to be believable no one IRL would touch a zombie.
  11. Braziers -heating (and cooking)

I like the basic idea just would like to add a different design or concept. Manny years ago I was visiting in the country and saw a stone made oven with a door on the front to add wood and cook bread. The same oven had holes on the top with bars that were used to cook. when not in use they had metal covers. This thin was also the main heating for the house. I have no idea how the mechanics of the game would work. But if I am not mistaken this is what was used for many generations. People would not have a oven and a cook-top as separate things. Off course it needs a chimney. I also dont like the idea of cooking on the forge, so I vote for a unique cooking block , the heating as a secondary is acceptable as it was historically like that.
  12. Apiculture ...* And more soon *...

I think the way to grow your bee colones should be controlled by time so once you have a bee colony it takes a whole year before you can brake it and have 2 queens to make another colony. We need to make it worth for people to go exploring looking for beehives. The area of effect of each beehive should be no bigger than one chunk Fruit trees already give too much fruits so to give a reason for a player toi have a beehive pollinating an orchard we should make fruit trees produce less when not pollinated by bees.
  13. Implementing Colored Glass, Stained Glass, and Glassblowing!

I love the idea of having stained glass. But glass panels should be molded not blow. So while the new blowing glass interface system sounds cool I don't want to have to use it for my simple glass panels or blocks. I think in the old times glass for windows was molded. Maybe we can have 2 different molds one for glass blocks and one for glass panels. For game-play purposes mixing dye with sand before melting should give the color of the glass unless we can have 16 different color metals to add to the sand. For cups and bottles is where blowing comes in action.
  14. TerraFirma+ : Animals & Carts

I like most of what has been sugested here. my 2 cents is to add more animals before adding races of the same animal. so if a dev decides to work on these suggestions, please add goats before you consider adding diferent kinds of horses.
  15. Ranching: tending to your animals

The only issue I have with animal hunger is if I cant play for a few days on the server. chunk loading is not a solution because as soon as another player passes close to my home all my animals would die. I think a mid term would be to add animal fatness. Like the animals would not die of hunger, but need better food to fatten up and be slaughtered. Also cows would not produce milk unless fed, and chicken would not give eggs. you could even go as far as sheep not re growing wool. just keep in mind that on most tfc servers is really hard to find animals. and as single player goes what about when you need to go exploring and spend several days away? so yes for animal husbandry. No for animals dying of hunger. But hungry animals would not produce anything or give any meat or milk or eggs or wool.
  16. Transportation Infrastructure

To be honest I read the entire post. I intended to show my support for the general idea. I would love to have a transport system that really work with the actual game-play on single-player an servers. Right now I cannot see roads on servers for as long as Teleporting is available. Dont get me wrong I always make some short roads around my settlement to quickly reach forests and other resources. But is just a aesthetically thing. So I would Like to have more reasons and benefits from it. So if this was a pool I voted Yes.
  17. Mechanical Power. Doing things Better, Faster

I want mechanical power. I think it should fallow the existing technology tree, so wind mills and water mills need bronze and steam needs steel. The main reason for me would be to make menial tasks like pumping bellows a lot easier..
  18. Where is the "club"? :P

I like the club idea but to be useful we need to be able to sneak on animals to kill then. also it should not be as efficient against skeletons as a metal mace. Having in mind that we are already able to use the ax as a weapon.
  19. A few suggestions on Stone Age Weapons

I like the idea of rock trowing but i think it should only kill small animals. I live in florida where we have lots of wild pigs and I would not try to kill one by trowing a rock. One of the things that i think is missing from the hunting experience is the sneaking and getting close to the prey. Note that i am talking about hunting for food, especialy in early game. Killing monsters is another issue all-together. Is a Monster it is supposed to be hard to kill. As far as animals go if your rock hits a chicken or rabbit (one can dream} it should die with one hit. If you hit a deer with a javelin it should die or have slowness so you can easily get close for a second fatal shot. I like the idea of skill for using the javeling and all weapons but would add a way of having better weapons as you climb the technology latter.
  20. Transportation Infrastructure

I really like to build roads. There can be no civilizations without roads. Please no slowing down the player off roads. Yes to speed up over different kinds of roads. Make Hand carts and wood wagons break the wheel after some use. This way the cart remains, but it cannot be moved until the wheel is replaced. It addresses several coding mechanics that would be easier than track durability. That said there will not be any road network on servers for as long as there is TP or warping. Also the whole road and vehicle thing needs to be implemented at the same time as the inventory tweak. Off course we should implement roads and carts before hand and only change inventory after brushing all the bugs from the roads and carts system.
  21. Sticks & Stones

I like the idea of having more uses for sticks but I dont like anything that suggests strings as part of the recipe. I would be OK if we had a different way of obtaining strings as killing a spider never made sense to me. historically strings were made of fibrous plants and leather. maybe a use for the cattails? As for the adobe house we have to remember that minecraft is a game about mining and placing blocks. so maybe creating a new block that uses sticks and clay to create the adobe block would be a way to give a new block to be use in early game construction. maybe making it so thatch blocks cannot protect from mob attacks so people would use it only on the roof and with a overhang for spider protection. We should also make it so clay blocks are affected by gravity like dirt and cobble. bottom line. Early game construction would be adobe block (made of sticks and clay) for wals and thatch for the roof. By the way what happens to the sticks when a tree comes down? shouldn't the sticks and saplings come down the same as the logs? Why sticks and saplings magically disappear when a tree is cut down?
  22. T1 container: Straw basket.

I really like the idea of straw baskets. I think it would be important to have it behave like a chest so we could place it but having less slots than a chest. One way to limit its use to justify the clay vessel would it be to what kind of items you can store on it. maybe not food or ores. Clay vessels use to store food as a way to protect against vermin. Since thatch is so easily harvest we could make it so the clay vessels would not hold dirt or stones so those would need to go on the baskets.
  23. Blue/red steel insanely hard and time-taking to get?

I agree with making graphite a bit easier to find but keeping it rare. The thing that bothers me more on the whole steel thing is to have to continuously pump the bellows for smelting pig iron. I think thats when mechanical power should kick in as a further development on the technology tree. So before having any mechanical power you should need to have blue an red steel as a prerequisite. But please for all the trouble that red and blue steel is the tools should have a lot more efficiency. mining should be a lot faster with a red steel pick. the same should apply to cutting down a tree with with a blue axe.
  24. TFC Build 79

Please no messing with the torches. Many people play on servers and I would not like to log in to my game just to find my house full of creepers. For as long as the mechanics of monster spawning is tie to light level the only way to keep your house secure is to light it up and fence it. I could argue that it makes no sense to have monsters spawning again and again on the same area, but making monsters a finite resource would create more problems then solving. So for now at least please no messing with the torches.
  25. TFC/BTW Collab?

Ok I think the main focus here should be how to better the TFC experience. One of the things I like about TFC is how is structured around the idea of technological progression. We start the game on the Paleolithic evolve into neolithic and then to copper and bronze age. Now i think we are missing some kind of mechanical power the even old cultures had. I have to talk about wind and water mill. I think mechanical power should be added to TFC but never as a way to fully automatize the production of any goods. Right now I would settle for not having to pump the bellows the whole time while smelting steel.
