      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Bioxx should add Bukkit support

As the other person states its not automagically done. But it is the reason why most of the mods out there are taking so long to update 1.3 if they were not already SMP compatible. What it does mean is that most of the mods, when upgraded, will become SMP compatible but it will also be easier to maintain this as you will not have to maintain the same code in two different locations. It does make it a bit harder now having to include the networking component of it all regardless of it being SP or MP though. In either case, with the Bukkit team being hired to do the API for Minecraft in general it may be a moot point to also support a bukkit version of TFCraft as I would wager that most bukkit mods are going to become compatible with just regular old minecraft anyways
  2. Bioxx should add Bukkit support

The change is more for the developers.. In 1.2.5 and previous versions the server and the client used entirely different sets of code for everything and you had to mirror everything to get SMP to work. They removed that. You now always just run the server code and the client code just displays the game. That is what is meant by them being the same thing now. Yes there is still single player and multi player, but code/development wise we no longer have to do things twice and keep things in sync to get them to work properly.
  3. Spotter's Guide

I think he is selling t-shirts with that on it
  4. Hey All, I am running a combination wiki page and video set that will take you through entrance into TFCraft. I attempt to take things slow and explain just a few mechanics as we run into them at a time. The focus is to make the transition from what ends up appearing as a fairly simple and easy minecraft into the more rewarding and complex world of TFCraft as simple as possible. If you are looking for something specific, head to the wiki. it has all the topics covered in each episode along with a link to the part of the video that covers the information. The wiki can be found at: http://wiki.terrafirmacraft.com/Spotter%27s_Guide The youtube list can be found at: If you have any topics that have not been covered and want them addressed feel free to post them here. I will try and keep up with the youtube comments but that is not exactly the best format for communication.
  5. Specified World Gen.

Wedge is a 256 tall world (on a side note I have talked with that mod developer extensively about world gen, very nice guy ). The biggest hurdle is that TFCraft is done in two passes for generating the world and Wedge is not.. I think that would mess up ore generation and such that TFCraft relies upon. Might be better just to ask for the options to tweak the TFCraft generation than to try and get these two working together
  6. Bioxx should add Bukkit support

Bukkit is an alternative SMP based API for minecraft mods...
  7. Arrests

Yeah man.. Your quotes, even the one with quotes, do not actually exist (though I can see if you skimmed a post how you could come up with them). If you have something useful for the topic that is on topic then by all means post it. I already gave my two cents and then gave it context so it is taken in the right light. The comments here, aside from just being wrong, have nothing to do with that topic and so I will just ignore them.
  8. Tree Grafting

Hey guys, this was an idea proposed by Sketchy when fruit trees came out.. It was rejected. Soo I am going to just give this a lock. If Bioxx is interested in pursuing this one again he can open the topic again
  9. Arrests

No worries, and always take my tone as Sarcastic Its much much safer that way (and accurate 90% of the time). I have also become more quiet on these forums since I was made a moderator simply to avoid people thinking my view on things carried more weight than anyone elses... I speak up when I think I can contribute or when I do have info from hanging around in the IRC channel where Bioxx makes appearances from time to time. Anywho, I do not want to drag this topic any more off topic.. I have put in my two cents so now back to your normally scheduled debating
  10. Arrests

Because I am not against ideas the community wants simply because they hold no worth to me.. So far I see nothing in Beta 3 that interests me but there is clearly a lot of discussion in and around this area. I always loved that quote from the movie Primary Colors.. I am not against a good idea just because it wasn't mine.. In this case I am not against the community thinking an idea is good just because I do not. Just for this level of control though... It just does not seem worth the bang for the buck so to speak. On a side note, we brought the topic up in IRC, chatted it over, and are now here posting... So we are doing what you asked us to do... maybe we shouldn't be? One final note.. My position on staff is to annoy Bioxx and make sure people don't annoy each other as much as is possible on the internet.. Nothing I say should be taken as gospel or the like as Bioxx and I disagree on quite a few things in TFCraft.. Its his mod, I just chime in with my opinion like anyone else
  11. Arrests

There is room for more than one play style but it would seem that if you are doing things in a proper RP setting then people would also just obey being arrested for RP purposes. If not then the people who are not obeying it are not RPing properly (Did I mention I play MMOs almost exclusively on RP servers??? PvP RP servers at that ). This is more along the lines of which is more worth while to the mod. New adventure dungeons to go and find? More creatures in the game? Some new form of building? Or a mechanic that will be used by a small portion of the people who play TFCraft? And yeah, I am a cynic
  12. Arrests

Completely agree. The 'ideas' being debated for Beta 3 are pretty damn insane for trying to in-game self-control and accountability. Most of us in the IRC channel chuckle at that entire thread.. and this thread makes me ... well feel more dumb for having read it.. but I will stop at that as that is pretty sugar coated
  13. volcanic forgeing and smithing

Yeahhhh.. Yogscast and now busts.. I think this topic may have run its course so I am giving it a nice lock
  14. Specified World Gen.

LoL I was not suggesting using this mod with TFCraft. I was suggesting taking a peek at all the world gen options the guy has exposed as a starting point to see what others have been able to expose through world gen options so far
  15. Specified World Gen.

You guys might be interested in this.
  16. The TFC Wiki and Minerals/Ores

Yeah, like that is even remotely possible to control and is well worth the time and effort to actually try and achieve That is sarcasm by the way
  17. Things That Are Too Easy

Haha, Thanks all.. I am actually really enjoying updating those guides.. and as soon as I get a bit of breakfastlunch I think I might do a little offline work to get a bit more ready for some new episodes.
  18. volcanic forgeing and smithing

It may be possible more steps would have to come along but a balance needs to be struck between the (difficulty/tedious/useful)ness of the things. I think not being able to move the lava and having to build your forge by/with/near it would be enough of the challenge that you could just skip the sulfur issues, after you clear it out and keep it in check and such
  19. volcanic forgeing and smithing

Yeah Id back that setup overall.. I still have to keep my stance on not wanting people to move lava around in a bucket
  20. Things That Are Too Easy

Which looks amazingly like the arrow angle
  21. Things That Are Too Easy

The crafting table is mostly placeholder from what I have heard. Its where you put the final pieces together and not where you actually craft anything. That is why most recipes that require components made in another interface (smithing, knapping) only use the crafting interface as the final assembly point. As more items get this treatment I and will fit in the 2x2 grid I believe the crafting table may become obsolete. Beds are mostly to set spawn points not really pass the time of night (well I pretty much only use it for a spawn point, hehe). I think a different set of recipes would likely come when different materials are introduced, like cloth to make sheets and pillows with feathers. Same thing with a mattress, etc. But at the end of the day I can lay down on the ground and take a nap if I feel like it, the need of a bed is rather annoying.. Give me a bed roll!! I feel all that is missing here is a knapping plan for an arrow/spear tip. This is supposed to be your first weapon and while they do quite a bit of damage when thrown (Honestly how many things can live with a javelin through them), but this is replaced by the outright chance of them breaking. At the end of the day if you were out on your own and attacked by some aggressive creature I am pretty sure you would grab anything you can to fend it off. With the foreknowledge that aggressive things are in the area and will eat you if given a chance to, making a weapon to defend yourself makes sense to do. Even if that weapon is just a big ole stick! Maybe some other option could be made but at that point you are just changing what it looks like, a basic weapon is a basic weapon. Food should not be scarce in an environment where it is not scarce. What should be scarce is your ability to carry it around. If you can not carry a 500lb cow while it is alive why can you carry 300lbs of steak when it is dead. Gathering the food from just about anything with out a knife should be fairly difficult but again its not impossible... I think carrying and storage of food that does not go bad is the bigger issue here. Overall I think you have some points and I hope I have addressed a few of them. Try to keep in mind all of the ramifications you are going to run into when you suggest changes to certain things when other mechanics (sleeping/spawn point) depend upon them.
  22. Flint Knapping

Inventory stuff is more Annoying to deal with than anything else.
  23. Kingdoms Brainstorming

This may be answered some where in the 4 pages of stuff I have not read as of yet.. But does this mean this is rather useless on any server that does not have multiple groups of players?
  24. growing trees

And yet another thread that shows how nice and welcoming of a community we have on the forums here.
  25. volcanic forgeing and smithing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charcoal Metallurgical fuel Charcoal burns at intense temperatures, up to 2700 degrees Celsius. By comparison the melting point of iron is approximately 1200 to 1550 degrees Celsius. Due to its porosity it is sensitive to the flow of air and the heat generated can be moderated by controlling the air flow to the fire. For this reason charcoal is an ideal fuel for a forge and is still widely used by blacksmiths. Charcoal is also an excellent reducing fuel for the production of iron and has been used that way since Roman times. In the 16th century England had to pass laws to prevent the country from becoming completely denuded of trees due to production of iron. In the 19th century charcoal was largely replaced by coke, baked coal, in steel making due to cost. Charcoal is far superior fuel to coke, however, because it burns hotter and has no sulfur. Until World War II charcoal was still being used in Sweden to make ultra high-quality steel. In steel-making, charcoal is not only a fuel, but a source for the carbon in the steel.
