      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. volcanic forgeing and smithing

Ok, talking about this in the IRC channel here is what we came up with 1) Iron melts at 1538c 2) Lava (whats on the surface) has a temperature range of: 700-1200c 3) Magma (Whats below the surface) has a temperature range of: 700-1300c Now I will admit in rare instances when Komatiite is introduced into the magma as been seen at 1600c which is above Iron's melting point... but that is a rarity ... Sooooo assuming you want to look this up in books and prove it possible I think it is possible only for the starter metals up to about the bronze area (950c)? So if this could not be used to melt down Iron or steel or the like why would it be worth the effort to do all of this?
  2. volcanic forgeing and smithing

Open Invitation: Bioxx's stance on the "Thats not realistic" factoid people pick up on and start throwing around: http://www.terrafirmacraft.com/realism/
  3. Gem encrusting for tools/furniture

This was the original idea for replacing enchanting with encrusted items. Likely also inspired by Dwarf Fortress. However I think this has since been kicked as an idea as other uses for gems have been discussed.. What I am not sure is how this is any different than the other 'lets use gems to improve tools/weapons' posts?
  4. volcanic forgeing and smithing

Furnaces do not exist so no worries there and how would you propose to dig down with out making any sort of metal tools? And this was my intent as well. You simply can not get to lava until you are further along. And one of the underlying factors of TFCraft is settling where unmovable resources are located. Water for farming for instance. It would make sense to me that an unlimited supply of heat for forging and blooming would be the same sort of 'something you move too' later in the game when you were capable of directing to your new home the materials that would be needed to live there. No, I was more commenting on the put it in a metal bucket, then different ones last different lengths of time, then using ceramic lined buckets then tongs etc.. People were adding in more and more steps to make it more reasonable to do the unreasonable Yeah the made up part I just find the whole 'The god Vulcan had one so it must be real' part very amusing is all Odd things make me laugh, get used to it
  5. I have to say I like this and seems to be a nice logical pattern for replacing minecraft things that make no sense (Sugar cane to paper if you happen to have three of them!?). Only thing I would say though is not to make this a by product but actually the intent. Change one of the new 1/4th blank blocks into a pile of chips for use.. or a pile of saw dust. Dunno, just spitting out my two cents.
  6. New Alloy: Electrum

Alrighty guys, as eluded to by many others, go start an economy thread
  7. Cooking

Hey there. There are quite a few threads about cooking in general through out the forums and I invite you to add this comment to any of them (there are 1-2 even on the front page of this forum as of this writing). So I am going to close this
  8. New Alloy: Electrum

All this talk of economy.. I like the server I play on.. about half a dozen of us and trading goes like Player 1) Hey does anyone have any metal to spare? Player 2) Yeah, if you just want a pick or an axe I already have a few of those made up in the chest over there. Player 3) I have a bar of Iron if you need it Player 4) Oh I could use a saw too if anyone has something laying around Player 1) I have an extra saw! That is why I need another piece of metal for a pick Hehehe.. Maybe you guys are just playing with the wrong people If anything we use Charcoal/Food as currency as most people understand that it is annoying as hell to make charcoal (especially now) but the exchange usually goes as outlined above just with someone dropping off a few stacks of wood when picking up charcoal.
  9. Environmental Dangers

I think you are talking about sink holes actually, where water has removed material in an area where then either under its own weight or added weight, the ground collapses. Quicksand is what happens when liquefaction (saturation of loose sediment) takes place and while rarely (if ever) capable of swallowing anything hole, it will generally solidify again leaving the person/animal trapped to die from things like dehydration.
  10. volcanic forgeing and smithing

Overall an interesting idea and the first one I had when someone told me about TFCraft actually was powering a furnace by having a block of lava behind it (infinite heat source). And then there were no furnaces While I think this is a neat idea I do not think it overly likely to be implemented (but I can be wrong this is not a topic I have talked to Bioxx on to get his feel for it). While TFCraft is about multiple ways to do things, in the area of metal working that is currently focused around your selection of different metals as opposed to the objects used to work those metals. The part that is catching me up here though is the moving of the lava in buckets. I just do not see this as viable regardless of how many hoops you want to make people jump through in order to do it. If anything I would say the major drawback of Lava Smithing should be that you have to go find lava and do it there.. Those who find a surface pool of lava would luck out. Otherwise everyone would have to go down to the lower levels of the world in order to set something like this up. Just my thoughts. 1. Not to my knowledge. 2. The game is inspired by both real life (Which all the mythology references do not qualify as real life btw )
  11. Ultra Hardcore

Ultra Hardcore Hey All, I am looking to do an Ultra Hardcore match and it seems like some people in the IRC and such are of interest in doing it as well. We have a minecraft server provided by the good people over at arqade.com that we will be able to use for just such an event. So now all we need are people who want to play! Ultra Hardcore 101 1) You do not heal at full hunger 2) You can only heal by potions and golden apples 3) Potions and Golden Apples now require Ingots instead of nuggets of gold 4) Timelimit of 3 hours (People will be called to center for a grudge match) 5) No Teams 6) Last one standing, Wins Participating Members: CrysynMeadKentaGraceJediluke69KaiserTomLuremoliugelisNanorDate: NEW TBA -> Will be NEXT Weekend though! Please note we can do roughly 20 max because of hardware limitations so let me know
  12. Suggestion Forum Organization

I have thought about deleting them but I am actually a rather large participant on the StackExchange sites as well and we leave duplicates in existence for search results. People can type in different words looking for the same topic/question. Leaving an old topic that is closed will let them find it in another way potentially. Due to the way forums work the older posts should just naturally filter down to the bottom since they can not be updated. Maybe we should link to the other posts on the topic though as opposed to just telling people it is a duplicate so they can find the information more directly? That should be doable...
  13. Place whole resource stacks

yeah the new charcoal pit mechanics are a bit beyond usable any more. I am honestly considering just filling a chest on the server with charcoal every day as a work around (With the new setup annoying so many people I can not imagine it will stay ) for now.
  14. boiling mechanic

Yeah I am seeing this topic not leading anywhere else good.
  15. Place whole resource stacks

I am surprised no one has questioned why a person can hold on to 4 stacks of 12 logs (and more actually) but the ground can only hold on to 4 stacks of 4 logs....
  16. Suggestion Forum Organization

Yeah... Id rather just close topics as I come across them and see that they are duplicates as opposed to having to move threads around after they get so old.. and I am not sure how this would stop duplicates from being made and likely just make them happen more often since now suggestions are in two areas?
  17. boiling mechanic

Yeah I removed this part. Just change the name to 'Rendered Useless' as opposed to boil over or what not
  18. New ideas

Hey all As per the general rules of this forum please split separate ideas into separate threads.. And also please do not suggest ideas already in their own threads, just add in there with new information/thoughts if you have them (Of which the existence of the feature is already done so wasted to do so again). So yeah, locking this.
  19. Firepits

    1) A stew pot (and the like) has been talked about quite a few times by Bioxx along with just general cooking appliances. 2) You do not (And are wasting) charcoal when using it in a forge. Use Coal.
  20. Bloomary alerts

With the new way that the bloomery consumes all the coal when it melts the metal is this still an issue?
  21. Adjustable time for SMP

Duplicate Topic (This feature has already been requested)
  22. boiling mechanic

I think this safe to assume its just the mechanics simplified. Losing the material outright should teach people to pay attention to what they are attempting to do when their neglect can have poor consequences.
  23. New Alloy: Electrum

With out a purpose a new alloy has no point. You can not make things out of gold or silver (except for alloys) so there is nothing that lends itself to creating a gold/silver alloy. It would still be too soft for any tools and metal currently has no other use.
  24. foot holds

While this does seem like a low priority it would also be very simple to implement. Cut/Paste the ladder block into a new block. Give it a texture that puts little shading on the edge where the ladder's texture would appear, and poof.. you are done. It would act like an overly like the ladder would. (Note that you would want to do some clean up for when blocks that have been knotched have been picked to remove this block, but still, overall pretty simple )
  25. Bloomery Mold Patterns

Hey All, Locking this topic as Bioxx has already said no to Casting before. The explanation he gave (and is allowed to change at any time if he wants) is that he does not see worth to the mod to add in another way to do something that is already implemented.
