Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  1. Exactly what the title says, i will dig a 1x1x1 hole (with solid blocks on all sides), place 4 clay items inside, place 8 straw and then ill put the 8 logs on top. But when i use a firestarter it wont catch fire. What the heck is happening???? [SOLVED]
  2. Bug catching and Bee keeping

An interesting feature I'd like to see late game for collectors like me would be the introduction of a bug net, bug catching, and bee keeping. --First off would be Bees, Butterflies, and Moths, which could be retrievable by using a bug net on flowers that have an appropriate sprite attached to them. These three could believably be sprites that are rotated to always face the player (like sprites used to be used in old school "3D" games like wolfenstein and marathon did to express round objects). --Second up could be ants and centipedes which could logically be gathered by adding one to the player inventory at randomwhen picking up rocks, meaning they wouldn't need to actually be view-able in overworld prior to capture, and once penned would only need to be a sprite. --Third i would say beetles, mantis and maybe silk worms (to function as an alternate possible source of silk and string) with silk worms falling from manually broken leaves, and beetles being found on the sides of trees( though due to beetles typically being rotund would likely need a model, but maybe not) as well as added in the same manner as ants and centipedes. Mantis would be found on trees, rocks, tall grass and flowers and would be that respective color and could conceivably be a rotating sprite like butterflies, silk worms would need no overworld sprite like ants --Butterflies, Moths, Mantis, Ants, Centipedes, Mantis, Silk Worms and Beetles would be displayed in craft-able terrariums that could maybe come ind 2-3 different sizes to accommodate the showcasing of different quantities (with the largest being a construct-able in a similar manner to things like the blast furnace, maybe made compatible to use on fish as well?) with each insect having different color and pattern swaps to emulate the diversity of the insect world, and to create a wider selection to gather and collect. --Bees would need to be stored in a bee hive boxes near flowers or crops to create honey, and maybe a minor speed up of crop growth, with at least 1 bee needing to be moved to a terrarium before winter as having them in the bee box or any non-terrarium inventory would cause them to "die" and disappear. Some players like me are collectors, and i now me and my significant other always end up gathering all the critter types possible, to create preserves of sorts with separate livestock from our farm/ranch that effectively serve as pets. I've been known to build sun resistant pens and storing named hostile mobs in pairs just to finish my displays, and i think the introduction of bug catching would add a lot of late game fun for people like me( not really sure if we're a niche group or not) i did search bug catching, terrarium, and insects, but i didn't see anything, so hopefully I'm not rehashing anything Would love to hear others opinions. So whadya think

  4. Brass Casting Bug

Hello everyone, Sorry if I screw this up; I'm new. I didn't see any guide or specific form for a bug report, so I'll do my best. So, essentially I can't cast my molten brass into a mold. Category: Severe IMPORTANT: I can reproduce this in creative. No other mods except FastCraft installed. I will now detail how to get this bug to occur: 1. I obtained nine 10-unit pieces of copper, & 1 10-unit piece of sphalerite. 2. I put these in a vessel together, and put it in a pit kiln alone, with nothing else. 4. I took it out, and everything looked normal. I got the "Liquid" tooltip, and when I right clicked, the GUI opened. 5. I put in a saw mold, but nothing happened. To further test, I put in a pickaxe mold, but again, no results. This is rather important to me, as I need the saw to continue the game. Thanks for help. Screenshots Attached:
  5. 3d item bug thingy

the 2d items like the hammer on my anvil and even the rocks are now 3d i have screenshots but dont know how to put them on here any way the hammer standing straight up the cocks are to not being flat on their respective surfuces going to try deleting and reinstaling TFC i will post whether it does anything if i dont say it didnt work
  6. Not working with other mods [v.0.78.11]

Problem/bug: Ive been tiring to add this mod to other mods but every time i do it crashed your game. What ive figured out is that only mod that adds a new demotion or has custom word generation it wont work with. Glactacraft, orespawn, Better Dungens and even optifine's Terrain Texture changes. If there is a setting in the config that i didn't see im sorry for posting this. Problem/bug 2: If you put on any armor from other mods it will crash your game and corrupt your word. From what i could read from the crash is caused by it not knowing how to apply body heat., to an item that has unknown factors. Please help me (if possible) and fix these bugs. Thank you.
  7. Charcoal Pit

Hey guys, i recently started playing this mod with some friends. gotta say i love the new survival aspect, even though i did have to lose out on some of my other favorite mods. The issue im having is with the charcoal pit. I got the actual charcoal, filled up the storage logs to the max, set them on fire and covered it all in dirt. The pit collapsed and found myself with my first creating of charcoal. According to all the guides ive seen, you are supposed to dig it out with a shovel. But not matter how long i go at it it fails to be extracted. The shovel takes damage and eventually break, but the charcoal just keeps getting to the point were its about to break then instaly replenish(can see this from the texture update) The only thing ive noticed is this while running forge: TerraFirmaCraft(TerraFirmaCraft:Build 76 Hotfix 17): TFCraft-Universal-Core-B2-Build76Hotfix18.zip () forge seems to see it as 17 and not 18, not sure if every1 else is like that. 9. Hello, I am new to the forums, but not to TFC. I wanted to take just a little time and mention most of the bugs we (my friends and I on our server) have come across in TFC. I really am not complaining, or necessarily saying these should be put on higher priority than other, better features for TFC; this is for the Dev's benefit and just out of my own curiosity. This is a beta, after all, right? -Bug 1: I have noticed at higher elevations that in bed, character models are at an angle to the bed, or completely off of the bed. at lower elevations (below 100m) beds seem to behave normally. Further, when the glitch occurs, the player's screen goes blank, and the displayed elevation immediately becomes a negative number, and goes further into the negatives at about -50 per second. So far, no mechanical difference has been observed. -Bug 2: Next, and more impacting, I have noticed that ingots and smithing items (like plates or plans) can be placed into the welding output slot by shift + clicking the item in your inventory, and also that shift + clicking will not fill the left welding input slot. also, shift + clicking to or from your inventory causes a 'phantom' copy to appear of an ingot often, and very rarely, actually duplicates the ingot. -Bug 3: Lastly, there are some issues with sluces; sometimes an ore nugget will appear, move into your inventory, even move into a chest, but when stacked, will vanish. unlike anvil duplication, there often appears to have never been a nugget in the first place. This is the most bothersome glitch (starting out, anyhow). TFC is the only mod used on the server, and while other mods are used in the clients, these bugs are repeatable with or without the client-side mods. A final question (I suppose making this a valid support forum topic?) is concerning fruit trees. They seem to be incapable of re-growing branches once the branches are cut. We have tried everything from leaving the tree with a full compliment of leaves, and removing all the leaves. each of our 4 tests were given an entire year to take effect, so 'not enough time' wasn't the issue, nor was 'leaves in the way.' is this a bug or are we missing something?
  10. Have a problems with this mod. 1) When im starting minecraft with: MC 1.5.1 - Player API universal 1.5 fml-universal-1.5.2-5.2.4.644 ( tried with "minecraftforge-universal-1.5.1-7.7.1.662" too, but it doesn't work ( read down)) And TFC Beta Build 76 Hotfix 14 For MC v1.5.1. 13. TFC Build 76 Bugs

These are the Bugs I can see right off the bat in TFC Build 76: 1.) In the creative and survival inventory screens certain item names aren't shown. 2.) Certain item pictures aren't shown correctly; ex. showing a blurry grey image instead of the one there should be. 3.) In creative mode you still have health, hunger, thirst, and can still have damage done to you. It would be much appreciated if these would be fixed soon.
  14. Bugged Sequoias

Hello, im new to the forums, and not sure if this is where to post bugs, but i've found one and i think people should know. So i needed charcoal, and set off in search of big trees. I came across some and broke my almost dead stone ax on it. It was a sequoia (it still dropped a couple peices). So i made a new axe, and chopped it down. Instead, minecraft exits my world, and tells me "Server Closed" (i dont even play on a server). After i restart my client and start up my world, i can finally cut the tree down. And that's about the whole of it. Thanks for your time.
  15. [Solved]Unamed Item

Hey everyone, TDminecrafters here. So i was building my new house, and there was nothing in it except for what i placed. I walked scanned the area for any monsters and went out to get on the roof when it was safe. My house is only around 5 blocks tall. I went back inside, and a creeper exploded, which i was fine with. It dropped an "unnamed" item that looked like this: And when i accidentally placed it in my floor it did this: This block looks like an air block, cannot be broken, cannot have items placed in it, and cannot have blocks fall into it. Is there anything i can do to fix it, or do i have to move my house, which as you can probably tell by the plank sloped ceiling, took me quite a while.
  16. [BUG LIST] Post your bugs below

Hi Bioxx, I've decided to help you out some, and make a bit of a central list for bugs that me, and others have found. I'll update this list every build, and change to green what bugs have been fixed If you find a bug, let me know what is and what version you are using. Remember to describe it best you can, so it is easier for the devs to "pinpoint" how to fix it, and what went wrong easier. I will update the list when I see it. Also, If you see a bug that is fixed, or not a bug, let me know, and I'll mark it as Fixed, or remove it. Red = Not Fixed Green = Fixed -Tall grass and rocks prevent leaves on fruit trees from growing. (Not sure if this is a bug, but is kind of weird anyway) -Weapon blocking is still bugged, requires you to right click on the ground for it to block -Digging dirt/grass below a sapling yields that sapling AND an oak saplings -Added doors bug out when a redstone signal is applied. -When cutting Willow trees, a chunk of tree usually stays floating in the air. -When cutting large kapok trees, vines, and some leaves with vines attached will remain floating in the air. -Eating a meal does not show the "eating animation", only the burp at the end. This was working fine in B66. -Placing a vine on a vertical surface (side of a block) appears to place nothing while removing the item from your inventory, but sometime later a vine may appear on or near that surface. Placing a vine on the side of a block with a block directly above will make the vine appear underneath the block above. -Cactus in desert can be discovered as item entities on the ground in a freshly generated chunk. -Plum and red apple trees never seem to be harvestable -Food prep gui doesn't update stack quantity until at least one meal is crafted -Some plants (eg oats) growth cycle seem to ignore year length setting, most work properly though -In B69 SMP, smelted metal that gets cold in a bloomery will crash the server when accessed and will require the bloomery to be broken and rebuilt. -In a fire pit when a mold in the first slot fills and there is excessive liquid metal it overflows to a mold in the second slot. However when a mold in the second slot fills, the overflow is lost, it won't attempt to fill an empty mold in the first slot. -Creeper explosion near a camp-fire will make that campfire drop as an object, and can be replaced by right-clicking. -Something that I'm pretty sure everyone have noticed is sometimes 2 same objects won't come together and will act as two different objects. To fix that you just open you'r inventory and shift click on the two items. Best example markings on a scribing table. If you right click it'll put them all and you can't combine them back together -Breaking a fruit tree branch with your hand causes the branch to respawn along with all potential leaves that could be connected to that branch, even if the branch had no leaves at the time. If the fruit tree is in season you can use this exploit to gather infinite fruit. -Doors are very annoying in SMP. When others open doors, you see it open up but can't go through. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. -Sometimes you do not have your water meter filled up when you get in water. Logging out and back in fix it. -When you throw a spear, the spear in the left inventory slot goes first, and it causes it to get the durability from the spear you were holding when thrown. -Smelting magnetite in a bloomery: I believe if the ore cools to a non-liquid state before the gui is reopened the ore and charcoal readout bugs out (Ore displayed as full when it isn't). The bloomery then accepts charcoal normally and it will consume magnetite endlessly, and requires breaking and replacing to fix. -Plum trees not harvestable (Don't remember if I placed red apple at some point) -Ghost axes still there -Anvil updates when smithing: If a plan is swapped for another without closing and re-opening the anvil gui, the green completion section doesn't move, which is misleading when trying to smith fast. Also happens when exchanging one ingot for another. -Support beams: When attempting to connect horizontal support beams to a single vertical support beam, any block updates cause the horizontal beams to break themselves. -Explosions dropping raw blocks (Cobblestone, bituminous coal, etc) in addition to some of their normal breaking results. May or may not be intended -Charcoal being placed instead of opening any gui -I had a stack of meals and ate one while my inventory was full. Normally the empty bowl would appear in my inventory but since it was full nothing happened (edit: the empty bowl was lost). I would think it should drop the empty bowl on the ground. -Zombies drop vanilla iron items rarely. -On rare occasions chunks appear to tower above ground, much like a chunk error. However, I use MultiMC, which has a java window constantly open and it reports no error, so it's not a bad chunk. -When the Guest on LAN uses a chisel, it will sometimes get 'out of sync' with the mode the chat / gui is saying the chisel is in. Both times this has happened, the Host player was also using a chisel during the session before the guest started having trouble. Eg. My wife hosted a game, I started having an issue with my chisel during that game after she had been using her chisel. I hosted a game and once I had used my chisel, hers got out of sync. (It should have been making slabs, but it was making stairs) -Shift-clicking on a plan in scribing table gui - consumes all the paper in paper slot and yields 1 plan anyway. -Metal axes cutting trees occasionally don't drop logs. (Thought it was only stone?) - While chiselling in detailed mode, one small cube next to the one you just chiselled sometimes disappears. It happened on one block more than others, but after leaving it be for some time it got back to working normally, with the occasional extra cube destroyed. Having the chisel locked to the block and chiselling from certain angles made it more often. I was also working next to other chiselled blocks, in case it matters. - After being used in one mode, the chisel sometimes freezes in that mode and doesn't allow you to change it. Exiting and re-entering the the game fixes it. -Knapping squares sometimes drop from creeper explosions -A single right click will eat a meal after the normal food delay - Hoes "Harvest Check" is inaccurate. It worked the first few times, but now shows that vegetables are not ready to harvest even if they are. -Sometimes sluice-found ores dissapear while trying to place them in a chest. -Sometimes chiselling modes get themselves in a weird order.
  17. Official b60 bugs list

This is the official b60 bugs list. I will add here all the bugs reported. -GENERAL -Minecraft displays version b59 instead of b60. -WORLD -Sometimes cave-ins sound doesn't play when a cave-in happens. -It's not possible to find Douglas Fir in the world. (Maybe fixed in b61) -Douglas Fir saplings don't seem to grow. (Fixed in b61) -Cave.ins sometimes change the type of stone falling. -Lots of animals freeze -Loose rocks do not match with the first stone layer. -Chunk generation errors (Probably due to the cp, exists also in vanilla) -In the poles sugarcanes and lilipads drop because they can't grow on ice. -INVENTORY, ITEMS AND GUIs -If you use a near depleted axe in the 2 hotbar slot with an axe with full durability in the 1 hotbar slot, the second axe breaks and a glitched axe appears -Markings are no longer stackable when collected from the scribing table gui. They stack in groupes of 2. (This can be fixed dropping all the markings and collectting them again) -Sluice gui broken (Fixed in b61) -Chopping down a tree like sequoia or kapok depletes all the axe's durability and leaves an undamaged axe that disappears if thrown or used. -Some foods can't be eaten, like the pumpkin pie. -If broken, kapok tools rack turns into oak tools rack. -Apparently, planting pumpkin seeds may crash the server. -FIREPIT -Firepits stay on fire even if the fuel is ended and the temperature is 0°, however they burn out if you open the gui. -The firepit sometimes changes its texture with the one of the side of the bellow. -BLOOMERY -You can put 3 bloomery blocks in one construction, facing different ways. -Bloomeries can rotate of 90° sometimes (Mostly to right) -Bloomeries cannot be built if they look in the western direction. -When adding fuel, the bloomery block disappears if placed in the south position. -FORGE -In SMP the forge (with all the slots filled) can cook items instantly if you swap an already cooked item with a non cooked one. -WOLVES (all features) -Tamed wolves (dogs) keep growling. -If left sitting, the tamed wolves die for hunger. -If left sitting and alone, the tamed wolves disappear. I'll add the others later. Thanks to everyone who posts here!!!!!
  18. SMP sever problems

So me and my friend have been planning to do a co-op lets play for a while, and when we finally get around to it, we cant get the server working. we have spent the last 2 or 3 days trying various solutions on the forums and what ever we can think of to no avail. when we attempt to get the server up everything installs without problems, though forge doesnt create a mod folder. everything runs fine until we install TFC into either the jar or an added mods folder in which case the sky is black and the blocks have properties from both TFC and vanilla. SMP works fine for both of us, except for items changing after updating to 51. (so many zinc knifes!!) and even when we're done with the letsplay i would love to be able to host locally so i dont have to wait ages for my crops to grow. if anyone helps us get this working you are awesome and will have a slot in the PVP event we're thinking of starting. [FIXED] after faffing about and clicking on the jar instead of the server.exe i got it working after a few attempts.
