Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

  4. There is a good custom (Bukkit + Forge + Spigot) server called Thermos. I tried to show this bug to the developers, but they answered that it is up to you to solve it. Just look at your code, please, maybe it's really a bug in it code and Thermos just transforms a 'silent warning' into error? So, when a player tries to connect, server just crashes. My friend and I play on this server together. We've already played a lot on it; nearly two ingame years have passed, and that is with a 120 day year, I might add. So there's certainly nothing wrong with the way the game or the mods are set up. Today, I went and crafted - for the first time - two Protection Meters. one of them, I set down right by our house. It worked flawlessly. Then I walked 4-5 chunks away, and set down the second one, in the area where we do our wood harvesting and large charcoal pits. The very moment the block hit the ground: kaboom! Both me and my friend instantly crashed with the same error message: "already tesselating". The server survived this just fine. Only our clients are crashing. What's worse, though: neither of us can log in anymore. The attempt results in the same crash right as the world loads in. So now we're stuck with a server that runs fine, but cannot be played on. I've searched a bit across the support forums, and read that this error is often related to Optifine. However, neither of us is using Optifine.
  7. [Solved]World Crashing

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum? (Yes/No):Yes Answering "no" to the above question will result in your post being deleted. TFC Version #:0.79.26.881 Forge Version #:1.7.10-Forge10.13.4.1448-1.7.10 Please note that an actual number must be provided for both of the above fields. Simply saying "current" or "latest" will result in your post being locked, due to the fact that in a large number of cases, users who say they are using the "latest" or "current" version are actually using an outdated version. SSP/SMP (SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer): Single Player Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug? (Yes/No): Yes If you answered no to the above question, delete all 3 TFC config files (TFCCrafting, TFCConfig, TFCOre), do NOT edit or add to any of the files, and try to reproduce the bug. This question is here because many bugs are caused by mistakes in config files. If you are unable to delete your edited config files, please provide a list of the config options you have changed. Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No): Yes If yes, which mods?Rei's Minimaps (1.7.10) If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No): Not using either of these If you answered no to the above question, uninstall Optifine/Cauldron and try to reproduce the bug. Both Optifine and Cauldron edit the base classes of forge that TFC uses. Because of this, we cannot officially support any issues that happen only when these mods are installed. In the majority of cases, TFC is not causing the bug; Optifine/Cauldron is and TFC can do nothing to fix it. All bug reports should have an answer of "Yes" to this question. If you refuse to uninstall Optifine/Cauldron, and cannot reproduce the bug when the mods are not installed, do not bother making a bug report, as it will be locked and ignored. Pastebin.com link of the Crash Report: Description: I have played multiple hours on one world with Rei's Minimaps installed and it all worked no problem. I was able to log on and off multiple times that day (yesterday). Today, I opened the launcher normally, but when I opened the world, my whole minecraft crashed. There have been no updates that I know of. I am able to open other worlds and play on them without crashing. I really don't want hours of work to go to waste in that Terrafirmacraft world. A fast response would be greatly appreciated . Thanks for reading, Anonymous (If you need further info, I will respond as fast as I can)

(Yes/No): I don't have any of thesePastebin.com link of the Crash Report: NA (not my server) Hello Guys, long time no see. I've got a server up with 2 friends so we're 3 altogether but I currently have no access as of the time of this writing so I can't give as much information now but I guess this is a more general problem. Our server crashes semi-randomly, especially when travelling large distances and coming back, in other words, the travel is ok, but when you turn back to get home it crashes, it doesn't even depend on how far you travel, we had crashes when we were like 1 km away. It happens pretty rare but it's a really annoying bug, basically one of us who has been on the voyage (everybody can experience this bug) bugs out and the server crashes. OK, we logged one after another in to check who has the corrupt files or whatever creates this bug, we guess it's a memory leak. The one guy that bugs out, when he logs back in, he spawns in a void-area and falls down all the time (a common thing in Minecraft actually). So we have a workaround which is quite a pain in the back: Reloading the entire player by killing his files and then giving back the inventory and xp and whatever. This can't be the proper solution so I'm asking for either better workarounds or a fix all around, maybe we overlooked something. Help greatly appreciated, Many loves and kisses.

  13. Hello everyone, i have tried countless times and spent hours on the forums and everything, but whenever i launch my server it crashes and wont work. please help me fix it!!!! I have my log below. crash-2015-03-14_00.16.15-server.txt
  14. My server crashes when I apply block modification restrictions and then try to break a block which I do not have permission to break. Report is attached.I have tried breaking tree, plants and dirt/stone etc. I didn't test whether opening doors or chests has same effect yet.I read somewhere on the forum that My Town 2 worked with TFC, but on the mod creators download page he links many config files, but not for TFC.Does anyone know what I need to do or have a config file please? crash-2015-04-20_15.22.05-server.txt

It is probable this affects slabbed and detailed blocks but this has not been tested. Entering the map again causes an instant crash. 17. TFC Version #:Beta 0.79.15.538 Forge Version #:10.13.2.1272 SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): Both Suggested Name: Bermuda Triangle Crash (Recommend something better, please) Description: Reference screenshots:http://imgur.com/a/Y1HRE World Seed "459909687" Spawn point x:22 z:-9030 Travelling roughly 300 blocks North from spawn causes chunks to stop generating, FPS to drop dramatically and the client to time out. This issue occurs while traveling over water at approximately x:22 z:-9314.Originally, the issue occurred on our server, when any player approaches said coordinate from any direction, resulting in the server crashing and all players being disconnected and "Timed Out". To attempt to isolate this problem I've attempted to reproduce the issue in SP with 100% success, unfortunately I'm unable to identify the cause. This very same issue occurred, a few versions ago, on our server in a different seed. After several crashes/relaunches due to this strange anomaly the world became corrupt and wouldn't load. Two more instances of this issue in random seeds while choosing a new world for the latest version of TFC. The only like circumstances that seem obvious to me are the presence of "Freshwater", "Saltwater" and "Fish".What's strange is that I've experienced all three of those criteria countless times in other seeds and not had the same issue. Mimtos' "Fish Crash" post seems relevant.http://www.reddit.com/r/TerraFirmaCraft/comments/2q5f6k/fish_crash/ I'd appreciate any help correcting this issue or insight into the cause. If this is a bug, perhaps it can be squashed by the next version! Thanks in advance! o_o Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes If yes, which mods?Fastcraft 1.13 (Occurs with or without Fastcraft installed) If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them?N/A Pastebin.com link of the Crash Report:I'll edit in my crash log and any other relevant requested information later once I get home.

This problem doesn't seem to occur on different worlds with the same mods. 21. Report from the most recent crash:http://pastebin.com/cE2H0bfa Hello all. I've been playing TFC for a while now. And I got excited about the new update. So I feel I should start by saying that's what I'm playing. And I like to add a few other mods in there to really add to the overall experience, usually simple ones that have always worked for me in the past, such as Smart Movement and Ancient Warfare. And for a while I had just those, and everything was working fine. Then my friend and I wanted to add a couple more mods into the mix, and while he was thinking up his usual over-the-top list, I went ahead and added Ars Magica 2 to my game, and configured the ore to spawn with the "TFCOres" config file. And I launched the game and went to my world, and everything was fine. Mods worked, no conflict. My friend was joining, so I made a new world to host a LAN game, and my game crashed. I thought it was nothing, so I relaunched it and tried to open the world again, and it crashed with the same reason. So I just had him join my world, we explored a bit and then it crashed once again, and now I can't seem to even load that world without a crash. I looked around but I couldn't find a solution to the problem, so I felt it best to come here and see if there was someone who could shine a bit of light on it all. I've played with Ars Magica added before, even getting the ore to spawn in the world without problem (besides a minor metadata problem causing veins of blue topaz blocks, but that was just user error). I double checked I had the right item ID's and metadata, and I just can't seem to figure it out. Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to try and help me figure this problem out, so I know what's causing it! -Flamebooker
  22. Chunk Gen Crash

Version #: 0.79.12 SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): both Suggested Name: chunk gen crash Suggested Category: Severe Description: Using the world seed 8483780134542625046, Travelling beyond the first island to the West crashes the game. Minecraft stops responding and doesn't generate a crash report every time, but I have attached one below. It should stop responding before you reach X:436 Z:-7942. It's not just one chunk to the west, as I travelled North for a while and then cut across West and also crashed. Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes *If you answered no to the above question, delete your config files and try to reproduce the bug. This question is here because many bugs are caused by mistakes in config files. All bug reports should have an answer of "Yes" to this question. Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes If yes, which mods? Fastcraft, it also crashes without fastcraft. Tried with Java 7u71 and 8u25 (just 7 installed, just 8 installed and both installed), Minecraft 1.7.10 and forge 10.13.2.1236 If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? I Don't use them *Both Optifine and Cauldron edit the base classes of forge that TFC uses. Because of this, we cannot officially support any issues that happen only when these mods are installed. 24. Cant play 79.7 wolrd in 79.9

Hi. I have a world generated and played in Build 79.7 but when i upgrade to 79.9 strange things happens. When i load up my old world every thing is fine, but when i go back to my base everything just get really laggy and eventually i crash.. I can play an other testworld of mine from 79.7 in the newest bulid just fine. So i tried copy my base over to the same seed loaded in a 79.9 world with mcedit but had the same problem there... Could it be some block that cause it? Btw i can sometimes move around a bit and then i get like this strage sound when time goes all "slowmotion." 25. Version #: commit 4bab633 (79.9?) SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): SSP Suggested Name: NullPointerException creating a new world Suggested Category: Severe Description: creating a new world throws a NullpointerException and terminates Minecraft (running on eclipse). Exception (whole output on pastebin, link at end): net.minecraft.util.ReportedException: Exception generating new chunk at net.minecraft.world.World.<init>(World.java:308) ~[World.class:?] ...Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.bioxx.tfc.WorldGen.TFCChunkProviderGenerate.provideChunk(TFCChunkProviderGenerate.java:155) ~[TFCChunkProviderGenerate.class:?] at net.minecraft.world.gen.ChunkProviderServer.originalLoadChunk(ChunkProviderServer.java:190) ~[ChunkProviderServer.class:?] ...line 155 of TFCChunkProviderGenerate.java: rockLayer1 = TFC_Climate.getCacheManager(worldObj).loadRockLayerGeneratorData(rockLayer1, chunkX * 16, chunkZ * 16, 16, 16, 0); This apparently occurs after merging in the commit 4ba633 "Moved where anvil recipes get registered..."; it works fine up to the previous commit e9c6174. Openning an existing world also is working fine. Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: No, but running in the development environment (eclipse) Pastebin.com link of the Crash Report: http://pastebin.com/3Q7RBejj
