Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

My friend and I play on this server together. We've already played a lot on it; nearly two ingame years have passed, and that is with a 120 day year, I might add. So there's certainly nothing wrong with the way the game or the mods are set up. Today, I went and crafted - for the first time - two Protection Meters. one of them, I set down right by our house. It worked flawlessly. Then I walked 4-5 chunks away, and set down the second one, in the area where we do our wood harvesting and large charcoal pits. The very moment the block hit the ground: kaboom! Both me and my friend instantly crashed with the same error message: "already tesselating". The server survived this just fine. Only our clients are crashing. What's worse, though: neither of us can log in anymore. The attempt results in the same crash right as the world loads in. So now we're stuck with a server that runs fine, but cannot be played on. I've searched a bit across the support forums, and read that this error is often related to Optifine. However, neither of us is using Optifine.
  2. [Not TFC Issue] SMP runs as vanilla

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum? (Yes/No):Yes Answering "no" to the above question will result in your post being deleted. TFC Version #:0.79.26.881 Forge Version #:7.99.16.1448 Please note that an actual number must be provided for both of the above fields. Simply saying "current" or "latest" will result in your post being locked, due to the fact that in a large number of cases, users who say they are using the "latest" or "current" version are actually using an outdated version. SSP/SMP (SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer):SMP (Hosted: MCProHosting) Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug? (Yes/No):Yes If you answered no to the above question, delete all 3 TFC config files (TFCCrafting, TFCConfig, TFCOre), do NOT edit or add to any of the files, and try to reproduce the bug. This question is here because many bugs are caused by mistakes in config files. If you are unable to delete your edited config files, please provide a list of the config options you have changed. Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No):Yes If yes, which mods? Journeymap 1.7.10-5.1.0 fairplayArchimedes Ships 1.7.10 If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No):N/A If you answered no to the above question, uninstall Optifine/Cauldron and try to reproduce the bug. Both Optifine and Cauldron edit the base classes of forge that TFC uses. Because of this, we cannot officially support any issues that happen only when these mods are installed. In the majority of cases, TFC is not causing the bug; Optifine/Cauldron is and TFC can do nothing to fix it. All bug reports should have an answer of "Yes" to this question. If you refuse to uninstall Optifine/Cauldron, and cannot reproduce the bug when the mods are not installed, do not bother making a bug report, as it will be locked and ignored. I haven't tested Archimedes Ships. I have tried just deleting the .jar files for the extra mods just in case, but even without them the mods ran fine. I don't know what that is about.MCProHosting is set to run 1.7.10, but sometimes decides to switch to the current version just because. I'm not sure what other details would be helpful to identify the problem, just let me know if I need to include something more. I would include a screenshot of all my files in their locations, but I can't seem to make a picture that is small enough to fit under the limit. I have been trying to get this to work for several weeks. It is my first attempt at a modded server, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was something stupidly simple, but I am completely stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  3. Howdy! Welcome to Thamesville! This city was founded by two young men who left their old town in order to build their own city, based around and old salt and iron mine. Over the years,Thamesville's salt and iron has become their most and best exported products. They have the hardest type of iron and best tasting salt. That popularity and wealth came at a price. They had to work years and years to build a huge wall around their peninsula in order to defend themselves from the enemies further up west. Nowadays it's a peaceful and beautiful town with it's own architecture and lots of different houses, bars, shops and workshops. And the best thing? You are all invited to stay a couple of days for free in our pub/hotel! (food not included) So hopefully we will see you soon. The Founding Fathers of Thamesville are DutchMitchell and patriotic_sugar. We live around +13000 and -12600 and it is only a short walk from spawn. Please, apply at this topic to gain acces to the server:http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/topic/3917-rhodances-hugbox-server-18-community-smartmoving-v7817-longest-running-d/ We do hope to see you soon and for you to start building somewhere around our town so that we can make trading routes and more role-play stuff. 6. Greetings fellow rock knappers and cheese makers! I am Thalarctia, and have for the last year been part of a YouTube group called High Stakes - We primarily do Co-op Survival Minecraft series with various modpacks, but have also been known to dabble in other games. We always strive to have a blast when recording, and we love to share the fun with our viewers! About a week ago we started a series on TerraFirmaCraft, and my hope with this post is to catch the attention of you lovely people who want to watch videos of the mod in action - You might end up liking our stuff The series is using multiple point of views to always keep the viewers in on the action. We are all pretty decent Minecraft builders, so once we get past the initial stages, expect a bunch of differently themed structures being constructed. The series is recorded using vanilla textures in beautiful 720p, with all participants using decent microphones and edited with utmost care, so the technical stuff should not put you off. If you fancy checking out the first episode, you can check it out here: The following link will take you directly to the youtube playlist containing all episodes currently released! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxWM_GXHp708vc02mdaF6IC6PZuSsUi0y But of course, the easiest way to follow the series is subscribing to our channel, and have the videos pop up directly on your youtube homepage!
  7. Only happens in SMP. Not running any mods.
  8. Good day! We recently started a server play using TerraFirmaCraft. It is 3 of us, Sim, Foo and myself having fun together and we are all doing server plays. I thought I'd make a thread here incase anyone was interested in checking it out. Enjoy http://youtu.be/mwG5VjsqsWs

  10. Hi folks! My name is Nightdagger, and I have a Youtube channel where I frequently post videos from my various Minecraft LP series, most frequently technical in nature. I've done a few tutorial videos for TFC, and I did have one TFC series that I did a while back, where I played on a SMP server, but I wasn't happy with the way it turned out. So, tonight, me and a few of my friends started out a new TFC LP series, where we're going to be building together, community style. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. But there's one thing that will set this series apart from the other TFC series you may have seen in the past. We have other mods. Namely, Buildcraft and Railcraft. And we know how to use them. We're doing this community style, throttling ourselves from reaching the endgame too quickly by using a community vote type system...we won't start progressing into higher tier metals, or into Buildcraft/Railcraft stuff, until we feel as a group that our little village has established itself well enough to support that kind of industry. We're not really hamming it up RPwise though, just sharing the tasks around and building together. And yes, we are going to have to "cheat" a few things in along the way, because even with all of the vanilla recipes enabled, there are some things required for these mods that you just can't get in TFC. So, we're doing a "trading with the foreigners" system, where we sacrifice certain TFC resources in order to get vanilla resources. For example, 8 of any type of stone and 1 bar of copper can be traded for a piece of nether brick, and a full suit of wrought iron armor can be traded for a vanilla diamond (yes, you can get vanilla diamonds in TFC with vanilla conversion enabled, but it's ridiculously rare, to the point of being impractical), and other such conversions will be established for us as time goes on. So, if you want something a little bit spicier than normal TFC, come check out this series! It'll be pretty familiar for the first little bit, of course...the Industrial Revolution doesn't happen overnight, after all...but once we start dabbling in some of the other mods, I'm sure you'll find it quite a bit different from your usual TFC series. My Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/nightdagger TerraFirmaModcraft, with friends! Episode 1: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGES7z0ykyY&feature=share&list=PLtVkMWxZVWqzkAEElAf7S9reszL5eMHcN
  11. I started this server to escape griefers and thieves who have ruined my experience on other servers. Its hosted on a dedicated machine, with very low latency. Ill keep the server up to date with the TFC builds as they are released. That may or may not require map resets, but in my experience is typically best to reset the map, so I would expect it. I dont have much by way of rules, but the obvious ones of course: No stealing No griefing Be respectful immature and generally rude people are not welcome. As a side note, and per request of the players on the server, THIS IS NOT A RAIDING SERVER!! I consider raiding stealing. If you want to protect your land and kill people who tresspass, thats fine, along with arranged PVP matches, or PVP out in the wilderness. Spawn killing, raiding, and so on is inappropriate. All I really want to see, is a generally nice atmosphere where people have the OPTION to PVP, and dont have to worry about roving bands of raiders, and people who steal everything they have because they suck at TFC. I havent really had any issues with this so far (my ban list consists of two people who hack), and for that im thankful, but in light of some confusion on the server, I thought I would elaborate a bit on what I mean by No stealing and No griefing. Currently my wife and I am the only admins (mwolfert, Sarahrah89) but ill create an admin class and add people over time. There will be no appeals to bans. If you piss me or my wife off, or violate the rules you will be banned with zero chance of getting unbanned. At some point I think I may white list this server, but for now it will remain open for anyone who wants to join. The server will be available 24/7 barring any catastrophies. Server IP: 24.183.51.239 Mods: TFC smart moving (willing to add more on popular request) Build: 73 Configs: year length is set to 276, the rest is default. 12/27/12 Updated the server to 73 My wife decided she would like to try TFC, so in light of this im bringing the server back online, default port this time. Should be 24/7. I dont plan on resetting the map come build 67, I may wait a few days to see if any minor builds are released though. Same rules and whatnot enjoy!

  13. Unbearable Lag on High Power Computer

Hello everyone. I have recently downloaded TerraFirmaCraft to my computer, because I have been watching Spumwack's let's play of the mod, and I became interested. I downloaded and installed the mod following Spumwack's tutorial video, and I log onto the mod. I get unbearable lag, and an average of 7-10 FPS, on tiny render distance, with the latest version of Optifine installed. This is a shock, because I average about 120-130 FPS on far render distance in vanilla Minecraft, even in SMP. How can I run vanilla Minecraft with high graphics on far and get over a hundred FPS, then turn almost everything off and switch to tiny in TFC, and get 7 FPS? I did not notice any change in the performance before or after Optifine. In the mean time, I will try to re-install the mod. Below are my mod specs. MOD: *Minecraft version 1.4.2 *TerraFirmaCraft Universal Core Build 66 *Minecraft Forge Universal 6.0.1.341 *Player API universal 1.1 *Optifine 1.4.2 HD U A7 Notes: I have played Tekkit a lot in the past, and even with that massive mod-pack , I still get 90 FPS on far render distance.
  14. Issues Installing Server

A friend of mine introduced me to TFCraft, and we want to setup a server to play on. I've gotten mod working on my client with no issues, but I can't seem to get the server installation to work. I'm not getting any errors, simply the server still thinks it's vanilla, and our clients think they're TFC, so there is no traversing leaves, for example (the client thinks you should walk through them, and the server thinks they're 'solid'). No mods folder was generated by the server, and I've searched for a 'recent' (within the last month of so) tutorial for setting up a server and I cannot seem to find anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: So, I'm not sure exactly what did it, but I managed to get it to work. A lot of trying to run the jar through Command Prompt, and re-downloading and re-installing the mods in different orders generating and not generating a new world in between. I think that somehow my META-INF folder became corrupt, but I'm still not sure. Thanks to those who tried to help!
  15. SMP sever problems

So me and my friend have been planning to do a co-op lets play for a while, and when we finally get around to it, we cant get the server working. we have spent the last 2 or 3 days trying various solutions on the forums and what ever we can think of to no avail. when we attempt to get the server up everything installs without problems, though forge doesnt create a mod folder. everything runs fine until we install TFC into either the jar or an added mods folder in which case the sky is black and the blocks have properties from both TFC and vanilla. SMP works fine for both of us, except for items changing after updating to 51. (so many zinc knifes!!) and even when we're done with the letsplay i would love to be able to host locally so i dont have to wait ages for my crops to grow. if anyone helps us get this working you are awesome and will have a slot in the PVP event we're thinking of starting. [FIXED] after faffing about and clicking on the jar instead of the server.exe i got it working after a few attempts.
