      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Upwards cave ins. How to fix them?

4 posts in this topic

This USED to be my house.

I thought making a basement was a fine idea as basement storage has been a favorite design of mine. Apparently it's not as I lost a chest's worth of stuff, my spawnpoint and several precious sequoia planks+white elm supports due do a cave in. An upwards cave in that destroyed my house. This is annoying and not very believable that dirt can fall upwards let alone destroy stuff like this.

I realize that some changes were made so that cobble couldn't be mined with torches or something like that, and maybe this isn't the same thing, but really.... sometimes the fix is worse than the bug. I'd really hate to think how bad this could have been were I further along in the game and actually had nice stuff. Like say, a red steel anvil or something else equally crazy hard to build?

It's a bug with vanilla blocks that aren't supposed to fall, e.g. cobble and dirt. If there's a stable block that won't fall directly above it, the dirt/cobble might take it's spot or be on top of it. It's a purely a visual bug and I'm sure your items are still there. Relogging makes the ghost dirt disappear.

I had relogged twice and the dirt was still there. The stuff from the chest had poofed along with the beams and planks.

Well to see if it really is ghost dirt, dig it. If it doesn't drop anything then it's ghost dirt. If it drops dirt, then you my friend have discovered a new glitch. I'll log on tomorrow and check it out myself.

EDIT: I myself have never encountered a problem with the ghost dirt actually destroying blocks, as I have built sewers under basalt roads, which had dirt under them. Getting back on the surface and seeing my road turn into dirt was a pain. The rules of the ghost dirt could change when it comes to useable objects like beds and chests.
