      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

On the topic of Random Drops

So, I'd like to talk about something I just discovered. I'm currently in the stone age of my development in TerraFirmaCraft, and I haven't found a single ore or got a pick or anything. I understand that this is perfectly normal, and I'm not complaining about that. However, I have a perfectly good iron shovel.

Now, I'm sure you're wondering why I told you that I have an iron shovel, and, indeed, you might be wondering how I got it. After all, I have yet to be in a position to smith a single item. Well, I killed a zombie.

As you may very well know, vanilla Minecraft allows for a small chance for zombies to drop iron tools and armor. Obviously, I also know this. What concerns me is why this feature has been untouched in a mod like this one. Surely, the shovel shouldn't be in perfect condition if I just yanked it out of the cold, dead hands of a rotting corpse? I mean, you'd expect it to be used (and therefore damaged), or rusty, or something, considering that it's there at all. Who agrees with me, and how best ought this to be approached (or why should it not be)? Or for that matter, am I just an idiot? I'd love to hear what you guys think.

This will surely be fixed in a not too far future, where the mod is half completed. What I mean is that Bioxx has more important things to do for now. He can solve this in an istant, but he has better things to do.

Also...

I personally think that the random drops from zombies is fine. They're really rare, they are unique items only attainable through that, and they give people more of an incentive to fight monsters (This last one I don't completely agree with, but meh)

You're that desperate to get a shovel? If it was a diamond shovel at least...

You are not giving it the credit it deserves. They can drop iron ingots as well, which can be spent on a flint and steel, ORRR, if you use other mods, save them for the other mod's items. I mean, TFC is great, but you wouldn't like to have other mod working along with it, since it is so compatible? I'm sure some guys would. So, for now, that will work for them.

You can also get swords, ingots, and helmets.

You would have to kill A LOT of zombies in order to get the ingots needed to well.. do almost anything from the other mods... It is easier to do what Infinus does, to get a chest full of iron and whatever you need for the other mods.

Never heard of zombie farming?

Oh, wait, dungeons don't spawn any more ._.

So, yeah, let's just take the Infinus way.

What's the infinus way? The way infinus5 does it?

Yeah, this mod does remind me of Better than Wolves, but honestly, this one is holding my attention way more. As a player who frequently starts new worlds, I always found the parts of Minecraft that I actually accessed on a regular basis to be very dull, and this mod already makes me more attached to my worlds and gives me a reason to get into the higher level stuff, not to mention giving it a little bit of kick from the difficulty plateau right at the beginning. It's not hard to knap yourself your basic tools, but it's certainly more interesting that punching trees. :P

Also, thanks to everyone for a warm welcome, and I understand that the dev is hard at work implementing far more interesting things, but I still thought there should be some attention brought to this since I couldn't find a topic about it on the forums.

300 Kg of words

That's because this isn't just a mod, it's a new minecraft, better than the original, more complete and still in ACTIVE development. Not overpowered, with no potions, more than only 7 ores, lots of tools tiers. Do I need to continue? No...

In the past few days I have observed an astonishing amount of Flowerchild and Better Than Wolves related statements, what in bloody blazes is going on?

I think it is about Flowerchild's practice to ban those who post suggestions on his forum. But I'm not sure. This one might fit, I didn't see the other statements.

Can't remember what thread I posted it on, possibly the meta tiny tweaks thread, but I suggested random tier 0 tool drops from zombies as a rare drop, obviously already fairly damaged. Bioxx and Dunk probably already have thoughts on hashing this out though.

nope, probably no metal tools from teh monsters. Along with some new special items in crypt chests, you might see some extremely rare unique item drops from zombies and other monsters. These might range from readable books with some sort of lore or history about the past of the crypts (I may tinker with that until I can hide secrets on a per-world basis, ie books might hint at the location of a treasure within a dungeon/crypt that you probably wouldn't find otherwise or some secret. Being world specific, the wiki couldn't help you find it). Another possibility is an idea I've been partial to for a while: unique tools, weapons or armour which cannot be normally obtained, only through the use of a unique plan for use on an anvil dropped by the monsters. Much more useful than a single weapon, but can't allow you to do a tech jump.

This sounds exciting as heck. This would give communities something to search for, create a niche for specialist blacksmiths, etc.
