Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

*Heart attack due to the surprise*

Cor Impetum...a heart attack. I wonder if anyone will rant on that (the double post that is). Kinda doubt it though, 'cause it's Dunk.

you're still a kid til you can drink, drive and vote. (preferably not at the same time...)

I'm still a kid at heart and you shouldn't drink -_-

(who am I kidding... get wasted, you're still young, when you're older and drink much they call you a drunk, so do it now and enjoy it while people don't judge you)

An hearth attack...but I need to think that dunk is a moderator and he can do this...ok, calm, calm...

Hey Dunk why don't you have that brown strip in the left of your posts like Bioxx or Crysyn?

/cut./ OMG YO'RE SOO MAZIN KAN I MAKE A BIOGRAFIE OPH YU? (yes the spelling fried my brain trying to imitate it)

This is exactly the only thing im afraid of. That kind of stuff makes me feel like I should go buy English books, tie them to bricks, and throw them in their windows as a threat lol. I understand simple mistakes but that to me is like a cat sliding down a chalkboard.

So, basically what I get from people's responses to my post is:

1) AntVenom's forums community is mainly IMMATURE.

2) I should live my life to the fullest while I am still young (that really goes for everyone anyway).

2 things learned! YAY! These are in no particular order, of course.

Mister Dunkleosteus double-posted? Oh goodness me... and he crafted himself a brown strip? *Plays Celebration and Song* Well, if there were to be an invasion of children who cannot spell and use grammar properly from Mister Antvenom's Forums thanks to Mister Killster550 (No offense to children and Mister Killster), then we're just going to have to EITHER hunker down in our trenches and bunkers, and let loose our spoons, knives, sharpened popsicle sticks, plasma machine guns, artillery, scramjets, tanks, X-Wings, V-19s, AT-ATs, AT-TEs, lasers, AT-RTs, AT-PTs, sharpened wooden sticks, barbed wire, mines, Sherlock Holmes, tesla coils, muskets, cannons, forks, bows, crossbows, daggers, swords, and lightsabers and biotic powers from Mister Killster550's cycle, OR just simply direct them to a thread in the Guide Forums that explains TerraFirmaCraft and how to install it.

LOL and Agreed( and I don't really think I am grown up, but I see you point. And also, what grave...? And..And...And...Dunk DOUBLE POSTED!!!???

a "grave" is one of the accents that can be applied to certain vowels. It looks like this " ` "

Located on the tilde " ~ " on most QWERTY keyboards.

Ohhhhh! That was called a grave! I am learning things everyday...I knew the other " ~ " was called a tilde though. I thought it would look cool as an apostrophe. It also looks pretty good as quotation marks:

Isn't vs Isn`t

and

"SO COOL!" vs `SO COOL!`

I only really think graves look good as one for a quotation, 'cause if you do 2, it looks...weird. See? ``Test``.

... : Another confusing word for me...

probably uninteresting thing spoilered:

In spanish, "tilde" is a graphical symbol for marking the syllabe of the word the speaker pronounces more "strongly", so to speak. The syllabe with emphasis. Or also used to differenciate graphically two monosyllabic words with the same spelling; "te" (a preposition) isn't the same as "té" (tea), in the same way "corre" (a formal way to tell someone to run) isn't the same as "corré" (imperative form of the same verb, an order).

Don't worry if you don't get it; ironically, in the internet, most of those who write in spanish don't use tildes EVER, and some of them even get offended when someone replies to them using tildes. No, i don't know why either :

you guys have the "til" right? For us it makes the nasaleted (I don't think that word exists but I don't know the right term for that) sounds like "não"(no) "pão"(bread)

... If i get what you meant, yeah, we have it... but we only use to to differenciate between "n" and "ñ" ._. other than that...

And for us the " ` " is for "crase" when you join a preposition with an article or pronoun with the same letter( "a" and "a" forming "à", ex: "chegamos cedo a casa"(we arrived home early) "chegamos cedo à casa" (we arrived early at home))

we've had english spanish and portuguese lessons on here in the past, so if you can find someone who wants to learn dutch and teach them, it can be included :)

Dutch is german with french.

That is not possible because French is German with Latin. (English is German and Gaelic with LESS latin)
