      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

So winter is here... Whats your worst technical problems associated with freezing?

27 posts in this topic

Ok, ive been out from forums about a month(?) now and just being curious, i want to know if any of you been molested by freezing temperatures.

I Just a week ago i had to change a wheelbearing hub to a caterpillar 990, (its big front loader...)

Just because somehow there was a little water inside mixed in lubricans. Temps went -25..-28 and it froze which then cracked the whole tire end of axle. Getting it changed was tricky cos' that thing was currently at bottom of to pit at time of breaking. They managed to tow/push it nearer to garage but it was still outside job so we had to freeze ourselfs too...

So freezing... I've changed a bunch of dead batteries, which some of them fully frozen solid.

Cracked axles, burned solenoids, snapped joysticks, popped hydraylic cylinders and tubes...

Even one door glass cracked at night when truck went cold because someone forget to put heaterplug in... Frozen diesel and filters are too common :/

So... anyone of you been freezing because your car being funky? Did anyones pipes froze at house?

Oh, edit... = by batteries i mean these big 20-30 kg truck batteries...

Well I'm sick and it snowed in Texas and that never happens so I went outside to play in the snow (very smart) and since I'm sick and my nose was running I froze my nose.

I was waiting tram for 40 minutes in freezing wind couple of days ago. It's not my technical problem, it looks like my health problem now that I have sore throat.

And of cource it's warm now, -5C and almost no wind, so I have to basically unzip my jacket to not sweat too much.

Not freezing, really, when it comes to cold temperature it only rarely drops below 10ºC... But it does rain a lot. And i mean a LOT. On the rainiest weeks, you could buy a canoe and use it instead of your car.

That is really warm for winter. Sucks for us.

Ya..-5 isn't THAT cold in Canada either. It is average warm weather in December - approx. February. But I can't speak for him. Russia is a LOT colder than Canada though. :P

EDIT: ..Double Post. Meh. Whatever. Bite me.

Yes its -10, easy for now. Just waiting that temp to jump back -20 and beyond. Which highly likely means im freezing and trying/making things to move again :D

I sent a horde of walkers (or zombies) to bite you; would you like that (too late to call them back now)?

Also, no technical adversities for me yet; I live in Florida.

P.S. - I'm on planning so I have free time, yay!

As you wish. *7 bites from 7 of the heads*

Whatever, in my life, it has only snowed once... So yeah, i find it impressive when someone says -5ºC is something common, when the lowest temperature i ever felt was -0.5ºC.

You said " i ever felt" not "I ever felt from snow/nature". Just saying. But I realize now, this is pointless.

-snip- it' the OP

Wow, it sounds really cold over there in Finland! D:

It doesn't get too cold here (ok, it gets cold, but rarely goes below -5 fahrenheit, but that's rare. It usually hovers around 20 fahrenheit), but my car always dies every year in the beginning of winter. It just stops running, usually while I'm driving somewhere.

>.<

Luckily, this year it died on the hill that leads down towards my driveway, so gravity allowed me to park it. :D

The sad part is, that was 2 weeks ago, still in the shop, and they say it may need a new alternator (whatever that is, but apparently its a really expensive fix). So yeah, not exactly freezing related, but my car is allergic to the cold, I guess. Hopefully I'll have it back soon. :/

For those interested, my car is a 1992 Green Volvo Station Wagon either a 240 or 270 (not sure which). But it looks like this:

Posted Image

Not my car exactly, but mine looks like this just slightly more green and with a bunch of dents. Most of the dents are due to a Black Locust tree branch the size of a small tree falling right on top of it while it was parked in my driveway. -_- I took the money from insurance and put it towards College, so the dents are still there, and the car is economically totalled. (My house is right in the middle of a really old grove of Black Locusts (80+ years old, that's old for Black Locust, some of them are dying :/), they are beautiful, but somewhat dangerous)

EDIT: Lol, just realized you are probably talking celsuis, doh. Anyways yeah, here it usually hovers around -10 celsuis I'd say, but it can get to -20+ on cloudless, windy days. It sucks, but as a New Englander, I'm used to it and the snow it brings.
