Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

[Build 75] Lagspikes and Crashes

24 posts in this topic

TFC runs fine for about 10-15mins, but then there is large lag spike or something that freezes the game. I usually close the game out with task manager and restart it, and works fine for another 10-15min, untill it does the same thing again. Some of the crash reports are labled as client and some as server if that matters. I have the recommended version of forge, the most recent TFC, and Optifine A3, alone with that playerAPI. I'm sure it's not optifine as I installed it in the hopes it would fix the problem.

Here is that one program that Bioxx wanted people to do for crashes

Here is one of the crash reports labled as client

I have been experiencing the same problem since I updated from 73

There are lots of lag spikes but the game runs normally. After 20 minutes the lag spikes seem to stop and the game freezes.

Have you ever tried using the suggested Forge Version (build .486) instead of .471, you are using?

I updated the forge version, but i'm still having the same issue. This time it's only a huge lag spike so I can't get a crash report.

I'm also having this very same problem. Unexpected error java.lang.IllegalStateException: Already tesselating!

Lag spike, crash. My crashes are all client side. The time intervals for the crashes are random for me though. Sometimes 15-20 mins, sometimes after 1 hr.

TFC build 75

Forge .486

Optifine B1

API

Rei's 1.0

Smart Moving 1.0

Thought I'd let you know you're not the only one.

I as well have been getting extreme lag issues. I have the API, forge 486, build 75, and I've tried it both with Optifine A3 and without, and I get the same amount of lag, usually causing the game to drop to anywhere between 1-5 frames per second. I read on another thread that (paraphrasing) because the leaves aren't considered physical objects, it now has to render everything on the other side of them, so the more leaves that are around (trees), the more lag you'll get. I do notice a drop in lag between when I'm in a forest and a desert. I do also believe some of the lag deals purely with this new Minecraft version, as even in vanilla I'm getting more lag then before the newest update. I don't have a crash log as it has never crashed on me, but quite often it will lag so severely, the game will think I'm still "walking forward" and will have moved me 5-10 blocks. I love terrafirmacraft in the few days I've played it, but the lag makes it unbearable at times

I also have this exact same problem, I have the Forge version TFC (b75) was built on, latest version of Player API, and Optifine A3.

Every 20-30 minutes my game freezes and I have to end the process with task manager. Same error as the OP has.

The extreme performance-drop in 1.4.x is a known problem - but it affects vanilla, not the mod in special. Of course it's getting even worse when running mods - especially, if they are adding a mass of blocks from trees. Even before, I got a huge drop of FPS in several biomes from EBXL - Redwood Forests made my machine go from ~40 FPS down to ~15 - and that was PRE-1.4.x!

You also must think of the higher world-height in TFC - the world is two times higher than in vanilla!

But besides that facts - I find it still confusing, that this problem seems to not affect my installation of TFC. Mainly, because MC isn't running good on my machine at all. But with this version in special it seems, that the client runs better than ever before - since 1.2.5 I mean. ^^

Using:

Launcher: MultiMC (latest version)

Java 7 x64 (Java: 1.7.0_10, Oracle)

MC 1.4.6

Forge .486

PlayerAPI 1.3

Optifine U A3

(Fancy / Multicore / Smooth Chunk loading / adv. OpenGl: off)

TFC b75

But maybe ONE thing is different:

I'm using LWJGL in version 2.8.4. Can't use the very latest version (2.8.5) because it have serious issues with keyboard input.

If you use MultiMC you can easily change the used LWJGL-Version for every Instance. Otherwise just google for 'LWJGL + Minecraft' and you'll find instructions how to update it for your Minecraft. The version Mojang is using is very old Afaik - 2.4.4 if I remember right.

I've never once had this crash error in vanilla nor using any other mod. And I don't get FPS drops, when my game freezes it freezes for good and I need to end the process :/

If your Game freezes, there should be a crash-log - so why don't have a look at it?

If there is NON; try using a alternative launcher for Minecraft which is generating its own log, so you probably can see, what cause this crashes.

I already said above that a crash log generates :P

I'm just saying I'm not having any FPS drop problems during gameplay, it's just that my game suddenly (no lag prior to that) freezes completely and I have to close it with task manager. The error log shows up for a mere second before it finally closes. One time it stayed for a bit longer and I noticed it was the exact same error as above.

Nope, never. I'll do what warfighter said first, if that doesn't work I'll try updating LWJGL.

Yea same problem here except I don't get major lag spikes. Just randomly I'll crash on my server, but my friend hasn't crashed a single time yet.

So far this seems to work perfect, 2 days have passed without a single crash! :D Thanks warfighter!

To anyone else having this problem, if you're using optifine set chunk loading to default, that fixed the problem for me.

GAH! So much lag! I dunno how this guy is doing with making the mod lag less, but isn't going well if everybody's dealing with extreme lag and occasional crashes. No wonder this is still in beta phase. Keep improving this mod, and I might play with it longer.

Get a better computer then, there is never any lag for me which obviously means the mod itself is just fine.
