Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

[TFC 0.78.17] BuildCraft <-> TFC Crossover Mod (WIP)

102 posts in this topic

Yes, these are good thoughts. A tree for a rubber source would be excellent for future compatibility with other mods (since Bioxx said were heading that direction) and even if I am not a big IC2 fan, many people are, so it would work out pretty good.. depends on how hard it is to get it to spawn in worldgen tho...

Can you upload the pipe and engine recipes? i mean i understand that they are probably very close to being the same but knowing what i can and can't use would be very helpful. also how did you implement new recipes if you can make a tutorial on how to add new recipes to tfc gui's i would really like to start porting other mods like thaumcraft and simply horses. also if anyone knows how to add ore gen to tfc that would be extremely helpful as well.

There are far too many things to list here so i made a recipe web page here.

=> http://mrzack.pc-net...BCTFCcrossover/

The link to the recipes is in the OP.

You may want to check the Tabs on top of that page to switch from one category to another. ,-)

....also how did you implement new recipes if you can make a tutorial on how to add new recipes to tfc gui's.....

This mod is not so simple as just adding a few recipes.

All the recipes are a part of my crossover mod.

To make a crossover like this, i had to extend many classes and add many new items (and i will probably add much more until i'm finished).

So if you can code Java, i can give you a few tips, but a tutorial will not happen. Besides, there are a ton of good Java tutorials out there :)

Perhaps a silly question, BC 3.5.3 was build for MC 1.5.2 and requires forge 684+ to run, and I'm unable to get TFC working with 1.5.2.

Edit:And I got this crash while trying to open my inventory (Using BC 3.5.0, with Toomanyitems installed)

I have provided a backport of BC 3.5.3 that is compiled with the same Forge version as TFC. The download link is in the OP.

TMI is not compatible with TFC, so that wont work anyway and has nothing to do with BC or this crossover mod.

And your questions are not silly :)

And Welcome to the Forum

np :) have fun

-------------------

I guess i can also post a mini update of my progress toward v0.5

As it turns out our vanilla yellow flower called Dandelion is a great source of rubber latex, so i just had to add this new liquid, and i also plan to add a Hevea tree for latex harvesting.

Mixing a bucket of latex, sulfur dust and green dye will make 4 peaces of green rubber that can be used to make a water proof pipe. That makes much more sense to me then using a cooked cactus. Also rubber can be made with any color dye, but only the green one will be used for making pipes. I'm also working on a more believable source of green dye. We'll see where that goes :)

Vanilla buckets will also not be needed anymore, I'm adding a steel bucket to handle oil and fuel, maybe zinc for water that can only be used on tanks and combustion engines...i'll have to think about that one. But if i get the wooden bucket working correctly(at the moment it gets deleted when used), there will be no need for a zinc one. And maybe i will add a BlackSteel bucket for lava (that can only be used on BC tank and engine). Or, there will be no need for that one, at least if a small TFC bucket fix gets accepted. And even if the fix is not accepted, you will be free to use the Red/Blue Steel bucket anyway, just don't expect to get it back :)

Well, that's it for now, back to coding ;)

It seems that pipes cannot put item into chests, they just pop out.

Hoppers doesn't seems to work too...

1. Download 1.5.1_BCTFCcrossover-0.4.B76HF18.zip and 1.5.1_BuildCraft-3.5.3_TFC-B76HF18.zip from the OP and put them in your mods folder

2. Yes ( there is a bug with the transport pipes and TFC chest though, will work with TFC b77)

3. Yes, but not like it does in BC. It will spawn underground in Sedimentary rock, somewhere in between first and second layer.

the oil spawn sounds perfect :D

now, any chance you can give me some help? i am running traincraft 1.5.2 on terrafirma and was wondering if there cound be id issues ?

also do not ever try and use railcraft 1.5.1 in terrafirma craft, you have to turn off world gen component for the mod to load and even so you get very odd glitches

anyways thanks for the info

i ll test this out right away

I did get a few ID conflicts with BC and TFC. To fix that, i just changed all 19??? IDs to 17??? in the BC config file.

Not sure about Railcraft. You'll have to look through the config files to see if there are any ID conflicts.

the main issue apparently stems from sort of particle affect

i ll post a crash report if you care to have a look.

but yes if you don t turn off the ore generation from rail craft you can get some very bad bugs

Must be from some other mod.

Thanks for the hard work! I can't wait to get mining and test it all out.

Looks very well balanced as well, though I have had extremely poor luck finding diamonds in any of my other worlds....

Diamonds can only be found in Kimberlite, which is only found in Gabbro.

Indeed, I know how and where to get them, I just have never gotten any. The only kimberlite veins I have found so far were small, didn't get anything out of them.
