      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

World generation: does large biomes work? And a question on sequoia saplings

6 posts in this topic

Does the setting large biomes actually produce large biomes or is that not supported on this mod? Trying it for myself I don't see a difference in world generation between the two biome types, so I wondered if the large biomes setting perhaps doesn't actually generate large biomes in this mod.

Also it says in the wiki and everywhere else I can find that sequoia saplings cannot be obtained. However I've found several on the ground. Where did they come from? Are they non-renewable?

I've never noticed a difference when Large Biomes was set.  I've just assumed it's not supported, but I'm not sure if that's actually documented anywhere.  Similar to structures being on/ff; it can be set, but makes no apparent difference.

You can't get Sequoia saplings by breaking leaves, but they do spawn naturally in forests that are generated with Sequoias.  If the Sequoia forest is distant, I like to gather those saplings and transplant them to areas near by Charcoal pit since it can save a trip or two in the future.

Thanks for your answers. Do you know if they spawn periodically or is it just once when the terrain generates and then no more?

Saplings spawn periodically in an area that has the trees there on world gen. That way you can chop down a whole forest, and the saplings will still continue to spawn and grow and eventually the forest will restore itself. Player planted forests however will not generate saplings.

yeah, i don't belive large biomes works, as TFC completely changes the biome and world gen system from vanilla's system

Thanks, that's good to hear. I didn't want to start chopping down sequoia trees without there being some way for them to eventually grow back.

I'm going to stick with the TFC default world generation. I've noticed only one difference between default and large biomes, and that's on large biomes if you hit F3 it'll tell you the wrong biome (e.g. you're clearly in a warm forest high temperature and rainfall and it tries to tell you you're in a taiga forest or desert or something), whereas in the TFC default the biome displayed matches up with the biome you're in.

I do hope the makers of this mod implement a large biomes setting some day in the future, that would be really nice. Of course I understand if it's not a high priority idea, assuming someone has probably already suggested it.
