Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

Why do you like to play TFC? It reinvents minecraft, since I got bored of vanilla and tekkit and what not. Really into realistic survival.
Why do you want to join? I would love to get into a popular server to meet people to work with.
What will you add to the server? I am mature and respectful, and know how to respect peoples property.

What are your plans on the server: Build a village of fun-lovin' peoples. Why do you like to play TFC?: It offers a more in-depth and fun experience than vanilla minecraft (plus I love the creative potential)Why do you want to join?: My Girlfriend just left me so I'm feeling a bit lonely and want to get back into a tightly-knit community of fellow TFCers. What will you add to the server?: My perpetual funness and a likable personality, Plus I love to socialize and help out the community.

Oh yeah, I saw that you have AeroC's mod and just wanted to say real quick that I used to play on a server with him :D

Why do you like to play TFC? Its really neat, a nice change from vanilla minecraft. It also has a challenging aspect that is rare in many mods and modpacks. But mainly I happen to love the way it parallels real life, it has a lot of potential as a multiplayer game.
Why do you want to join? I find multiplayer minecraft a lot more exciting then single player. Combine that with tfc and it will be a blast :P
What will you add to the server? A friendly positive and helpful attitude.

Thanks

Why do you like to play TFC?
I love to play TFC because it adds a special glow to the game, not found anywhere else. From the actual sense of time to the new sense of exploration, TFC adds a brisk challenge of surviving in a beautiful world under a canopy of imminent starvation, ripe for potential. I also love the mod for it's sense of realism.

Why do you want to join?
Whitelisted servers are always the best in terms of its community and its fairness. The main reason I applied to this server was for it's towns factor. Towns, and building in general, are my favorite things to do in this game, and TFC makes the whole experience better. But what is the point of building towns and cities, docks and complexes in single player? There is no one to help, no one to appreciate it, and no one to use it. A whole server full of like-minded people can make the best TFC experience.

What will you add to the server?
I aim to add a cheery attitude, lame puns, and a bustling plethora of shops, flats, and walls stationed beneath a roaring range of mountains. Maybe even two. Or three. Or a whole nation. We'll just have to see.

Thank you for considering.

Why do you like to play TFC? It's the only survival mod that ever suited my taste. Everthing about it makes sense to me unlike vanilla or other mods, that way it provides me more comfort in expressing my creativity. the best thing about TFC to me is the variation in stone types and the forging system.

Why do you want to join? Usually when I play a public server I join someone else's faction and they completely abandon the server afterwards, I want to join a whitelisted server so the players i meet are more serious to

the game, like me. TFC is nearly impossible for me to enjoy on singleplayer. I thrive on TFC multiplayer.

What will you add to the server? I aim to create a masonry business, I will pick a plains biome and start quarrying stone to supply builders on the server. I will collect all types of stones to meet the aesthetic needs of players throughout the community, Brick, Smooth, cobble, chisled, and possibly custom sculptures.

Why do you like to play TFC? TFC makes minecraft interesting again, with the advanced survival, crafting, building, and environmental aspects. it's as though the game as been remade, "how it should have been". The variety of blocks gives many options for building, which is my favorite aspect.
Why do you want to join? I've been trying to find a server with a good community where i can hang out and do things with others. Playing TFC is fun to a point, but alone the tedium and monotony sets in, and with it boredom.
What will you add to the server? Building skills(not fantastic but not abysmal), Good sense of humor, Inelegance, maturity (from a 15 year old. So weird, right?), Team player, Etc. also, in a more personal manner, knowledge of sci-fi, (star trek, star wars, marvel, etc.) ancient history nut, good moral structure, and 70 memorized digits of Pi.

All applications have been processed!

Unfortunately I will be shutting down the server somewhere in the second half of September. Keeping an active and busy community takes a lot of time, which I will not have too much of in the near future. It was a fun year :)

No more applications will be accepted from now on.
