      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

serverside issue: can't change chisel or hoe mode

6 posts in this topic

so, after a few mins of running, my hoe or chisel becomes unable to change modes, if i log out and back in, i can change modes again, but the server doesn't recognize it, effectively locking me in "smooth mode" for the chisel. rebooting the whole server fixes this, but i don't want to have to reboot a soon-to-be public server every ten minutes. is there a fix for this issue?

The issue is indeed caused by issues with client/server communication. Are you currently playing on the same machine as the server (do you connect using localhost)? If so, that would explain why you have to reboot the whole server instead of just logging off. Try connecting remotely, or having a friend connect and see if it still "locks" the mode.

indeed, i am playing on the same machine as the server. would connecting using an ip route allow me to correct the issue on my client without restarting the server?

Correct, by using an IP route, logging off and back in will properly sever the connection and reset your tool mode.

gr my router doesn't let me simply connect using my external ip info. do you know of a tutorial to allow the data packets to leave my local network and re-enter it?

I do not. In general it's not a good idea to play on the same machine as the server is hosted anyways due to how resource heavy TFC is. Unless you are playing on some awesome super computer with lots of RAM and at least a high-end Quad Core processor, as soon as other people are playing on your server, you probably aren't going to be able to start up your client on the same machine and play without causing out of memory issues and crashing both your client and the server.
