      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Bonfires

I was thinking that while the campfire is nice, maybe a big bonfire could be created with a large clearing, quite a few logs, and a firestarter. It could have a GUI similar to a campfire, but with more cooking spots. It would of course have to have stages and would be progressive with kindling (straw), then sticks would be added, then eventually logs would be added and would have to be added continually in order to continue the burning of the fire.

Take the top off your charcoal pit.

That's not exactly going to make a useful bonfire though... :P

That's the point. Bonfires are not 'useful'.

Well as signals, but in TFC pointless. Could make a large fire built from 9 fire-pits connected to each other.

The only upside I see is cooking more at a time, and possibly faster cooking, but we can use the forge for that, and a forge would probably use less wood(I mean wood used to make charcoal), and it just needs a small space.

The bonfire would have no use other then the aesthetical.

it could be an early game way to cook stuff faster ( but it would be balanced because of the wood cost)

The problem with that is you can't cook on a bonfire.  It's too hot to get close to, let alone cook on.  If you think there should be an option to cook more than one food item at once, I would go with a stove or an oven.

what about like one of those spit things

Use a good quality log in your firepit with a bellows.

Cooking is still pretty slow if that set up.

Now the problem with with your suggestion*, and the idea of balancing it with the wood costs. That's what a Forge already is. You make a bonfire. Cover it up. Take the charcoal (not 1:1 from wood right?). Slap it in a hole made of cobble stones (you can get stones off the ground). Light it up. Presto, cook 5 meats.

Edit: *Using a bonfire/spit to cook things faster.
