      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Days are so short in TFC

9 posts in this topic

I really dislike how short daylight hours seem to be in TFC. It feels like I can hardly get anything done between zombie hordes. It's particularly irritating in the early game before I get a bed. Even in the summer, when days should presumably be longer, sunlight only lasts 12 hours. In real life, I get 16.5 hours of daylight in the summer.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

I used to compensate for the short TFC days by increasing the length of the whole day, but that option was removed in b77.3 due to bugginess. I really miss that feature.

Not really. Night time is the time for knapping your spare tool heads, shaping your clay, firing your pit kiln, trimming your decaying food, and cooking meat over the fire in the early game. There's even more to do later on. I'm very rarely bored at night. You need to think ahead during the day about what your night time projects are going to be and get those ressources into your inventory before nightfall.

In brief, don't do during the day what you can do at night. Have fun! :)

I would really, really, really like to be able to adjust the length of days. They're too short, I agree. By about five minutes or so.

It'd be really nice if the length of the days vs nights could be modified by the calender, so in the winter nights are longer and in the summer days are longer. This would also kinda help with the First Day Problems that crop up with newer players, where it's tough to get enough done in the first day to survive the first night (since the game starts in the summer).

Sadly, I dunno how feasible that is. I should look for a mod that does this and see if it's even possible.

The longest day of the year is 15h 41m 07s where I live. It's all relative to latitude. So if you have longer days in summer, you live further away from equator than I do.

12h 08m 18s is the longest day in Quito, Ecuador, so it's realistic for a lot of people.

The reason the day length configuration was removed is mainly Vanilla's fault. The way that MC calculates day and night is done by a bunch of magic numbers that are hardcoded behind the scenes. There really isn't anything a mod can do to change this without breaking a whole bunch of other stuff.

I prefer to play this game on peaceful.  There is enough challenge without being hunted by monsters.  This way this time of day doesn't matter so much.

Mythcraft can do this very well, maybe you can copy what he does?
