      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Salt from Saltwater

30 posts in this topic

If any system were implemented to allow the evaporation of salt water into salt, it would have to be done with salt water in containers. If it was a matter of making a hole and filling it with salt water and walking away, it would be very difficult to code so that the game knows only to evaporate that little pool of salt water, and not per se the entire ocean.

Um, a multiblock structure out of raw stone, a 3x3 and 1 deep pit, completely filled with salt water sources. Even if could be naturally formed this way, would be rare enough as to not confuse the game logic that bad. And even if it did form naturally, this is a nice thing that brings a bit more life into the game - to stumble upon a random pit of salt near an ocean. Sounds good to me, you?

Problem is, you can't move water source blocks until you have red-steel buckets, and by then, salting your food is probably the least of your worries

Evaporation bowl

Made by combining chisel with raw stone block. Has texture of bigger stone bowl. When placed down, it looks like big, shallow stone bowl. Right clicking it opens an interface with two slots and one "progress bar". When you put salt water bucket into one slot, the progress bar fills up with blue. Leaving the bowl slowly evaporates the water. Water can only evaporate when temperature is above 15 and when it is not raining. When all water is evaporated, output slot will contain Speck of Salt item. Combining 9 (or 4) of those gives you one Salt item.

You would have to have many of those to get even single salt item and they would be pain in the ass to use.

2 things first there's a salt bucket item in game what does it do or for and how do i get it (its a wooden bucket not metal not water just salt)  it is in build 78 at least

second the iron age had a lot of salt production like this just laying it in the sun Europe didn't have a lot of salt deposits so they used evaporation to get salt since at least Roman times

The salt bucket was removed in 79, and Dunk actually got quite the lecture for adding it in the first place. Salt from salt water was added to the Do Not Post the Following Suggestions post quite some time ago, so I'm going to go ahead and lock this topic.
