      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[B78.7] Horse Auto-Breeding INSANITY

16 posts in this topic

Version #: 78.7

Suggested Name: Horse Auto-Breed

Suggested Category:Minor

Description: Horses will auto-breed with any female, even juveniles. I been recently testing horse on donkey breeding to make mules (Which was also unsuccessful, but I that doesn't matter now) and every single Female foal was impregnated immediately after birth.

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

I'm unable to reproduce this using spawn eggs to spawn in the horses. Can you please provide a world seed and coordinates where I can find horses in the wild?

Um, this will take a sec as I retrieve server, but just want to ask if Auto-breeding is enabled on horses. I've seen juveniles in the wild that are pregnant recently. Yet it is Every female horse I've seen on every Multiplayer and Singleplayer map i've rendered had pregnant females. Best way to confirm this, that i've seen, was using Spawn eggs. They will auto-breed once they identify each other. If it's not working on your side then I may have to look into this some more.

here is a seed: 5729007056373582381

I found my donkey here: X:-1265 Z:-7792

There should be more horses farther negative X in the wastelands

Only issue I can foresee in this is that Mob spawn are random and not based on seed. Yet, most Horses spawn in wasteland or plains biomes

I have encountered horses that are already pregnant as well. I thought it was a feature that wild animals might naturally breed.

Horse breeding issues have been giving us problems, as well, on our server.  We are on the latest release (78.7) and have been updating with every update, and this has been ongoing for the last 5+ updates.  I can confirm without question that breeding is active in the wild (every female near a stallion I've ever found has been pregnant), and getting any horses of opposing genders within 4~ blocks causes instant pregnancy in the female.

We run a horse farm on our server, and we have about 30+ horses at the moment because of this.

Firstly, both male and female horses can participate in breeding from birth.  This means a colt, moments after being born, impregnates his mother.  And having a female born anywhere NEAR a stallion makes the newborn female also pregant.

Additionally, all born horses seem to be clones of the mother (in 20+ births, there have been no variations in color or pattern, no matter the father or mother).

This isn't game breaking, of course, but having to build 3+ stables to house males, females, and pregnant females (to keep a newborn colt to only impregnating ITS mother and not all the females in the barn) has been our temporary solution... but it is rather a hassle. :P  And with how non-common horses are, having no color/pattern variation other than "what the mother looks like" has been rather sad as well.

Edit 4/20/14: It seems the 78.7 update has fixed the clone issue, as we had our first non-clone births the day after I wrote this message.  So hooray!!!!  Now, it is just the inability to STOP them from breeding, hahaha.

As an additional note, due to a "Easter Horse Egg" hunt we had last night, we found that egg-spawned Horses are not TFC horses (no gender, etc etc), so this is likely why you were unable to.  Just a heads up. :)

That's odd, because the spawn eggs that I was using did give TFC horses with the correct amount of health and genders. Make sure you're using the black and white eggs (TFC) and not the colored ones (vanilla)

We've yet to encounter horses in our 0.78.5+ world, but I can confirm that this was happening as described in 0.78.3.

Every female horse or donkey was pregnant when found.

Nope. Just found horses in 78.8. The chunk had been loaded previously (but evidently I missed them the first time) and there was already one foal. When I came closer to investigate I witnessed two horses spontaneously enter the mating sequence, resulting in another pregnancy.

So what we need is to be able to right-click stallions with a knife to make them a gelding...

hmm, I was sure that it was due to vanilla mating mechanics still being in place which were removed in 78.8. I guess Dunk will have to take a look. For now, enjoy the horsplosion!

Oh gods, I can't stop laughing.

As another note, with two exceptions, babies still seem to be a clone of the mother 90% of the time.  I know vanilla mechanics are something like 45/45/10 for mother, father, and other, but though we're finally getting the very occasional non-mother clone, that seems to kee happening.

Confirmed in 78.16, both wild and egg-spawned horses are auto-breeding, and are also spawning with only about 20/1250 health before slowly regenerating back up. Female foals are at least waiting until they are old enough before getting pregnant though.
