      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Yes, that converts to about 135Lbs.. which I would say is about the correct weight for a big pig.

Kill a pig-sized squid and you're lucky to get 1 ounce.

I like TFC's increased realism (vs vanilla), and slaughtering animals ought to produce a lot more food in a single kill than harvesting a couple of berries. Keeping such a large amount of meat from spoiling does add a bit of difficulty to counteract how much easier it is to slaughter animals than to grow crops. That said, for the sake of game balance, I think the current output of meat from animals is too much and destroys any semblance of difficulty from the hunger system.

I'm much more interested in farming/foraging/slaughtering more frequently instead of spending so much time cutting off decay. I suppose it's trading one form of tedium for another, but cutting off decay is not particularly enjoyable.

As a pig farmer, I can tell you the meat yield from a farm pig is around 200-250lb. That's at 8 months though, a 1-5 year old would be closer to 500-800lbs of meat. But it's wild pigs, and wild pigs are much smaller.

You can always move further north, where it's colder. That will slow the decay quite a bit. The trade off, of course, is a shorter growing season and having to stock up on enough food to get you through the winter.

Hide size is roughly determined by the size of the animal. Since individual animals can have a range of sizes. A smallish pig drops a small hide and a larger one will probably drop a medium hide. Like wise, cows usually drop large hides, but if the animal is unusually small or young, it could drop a medium or even small hide.

Even though a 60kg - 70kg of meat from a pig is normal, is it really balanced for the game? An option to change the times in animal breeding and meat ammount would be nice for single players, don't you think?
