Visualize Firepit contents, placeable stones

I'd love to see visually what's inside the firepit, without opening the gui. How about 2 sticks standing vertically and above those 1 horizontal stick, like in this picture: http://regesquattuor.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dsc_0507.jpg

Then in the middle of the horizontal stick is the item to be backed, and once backed the item moves to the left or right corner of the stick. This could in fact go so far and let the player place and remove items from the firepit without the use of any gui. The temperature indication could be made by the color of the fire. 

 

And one other small thing, I'd really like to place rocks and ore nuggets back on surfaces as ways of decorating. Perhaps via shift + right click?

3D models for the fire pit have already been suggested many times, and Dunk has done side-project work for rendering cooking pots and stuff, but Bioxx shot it down due to the fact that if we start adding 3D models for one thing, you guys are going to ask for 3D models for everything. 3D models are resource heavy, therefore causing extra lag.

Sadly it seems like the devs don't want to do anything with fire pits and 3d models, so I'm not sure if this will ever see the light of day. 

 

I'm not sure about the latter part of your post, though. I wouldn't mind being able to do that too.

Thanks for the info. Actually it doesn't even have to be 3d models, it could be just 3 flat sticks like the ones tomatoes grow on. The main goal would be just to see without gui whats inside the fire pit.
