      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Making Ingot Piles/Log Piles/Tool Racks Voluntary

5 posts in this topic

Some people like the ideas of weight mods. While weight in TFC will probably always be abstracted in "vanilla TFC" the way it is now, some people want carrying capacity in thier games

Now if someone were to make a weight and carrying capacity add-on (or compatibility patch with a existing weight mod) (this is something I think will happen some unknown time in the future), they will run into the problem that what makes weight capacity mods playable is the ability to store items in donkey chests/minecart chests/boat chests etc and no mobile transfer option really works for ingots/logs/tools

The reasoning for the inability to place these items in chests seems to be "we have made these cool features, so we will make it so players have to use them"

The thing is though you have made cool features that most players will use anyway (obviously all players won't use them)

They have a purpose even if you can store the items in chests. You can visually distinguish the contents, which you can't do in chests

Ingot piles/log piles/tool racks would still be a convienent and visually distinct way of stacking/storing ingots, logs, and tools that I imagine most players would still use rather than search through disorganized chests

Ingot piles and log piles also have no material cost, where storing them in chests have a material cost

This suggestion would also make donkey chests/minecart chests/boat chests more convienent mobile transfer solutions even for Vanilla TFC players, its just that those solutions would be convienent rather than vital

Wagons? Six physical slots, place stuff there. Lift chests up to one of the slot. Place ingots, logs... stuff. I suppose it's possible?

Part of the purpose of not allowing certain items to go into chests is because it makes those items hard to deal with for storage and management. This is intentional.

Storing logs in chests goes directly against how we want the game to operate.

Ingot piles are just because they're cool, and because ingots are a lot harder to get, it's rare that players will have more than a few blocks worth of piles for each metal type.

I love these wood piles and ingots and I like that one is forced to use them.
And I hope it will develop, I think for example, buckets that could be stacked on the floor.

I think I'm going to go with the OP here and say that the inventory issue should at least be a bit more fleshed out. Personally, I find things like ingots being placed in barrels makes perfect sense, or in minecart chests... especially minecart chests... Logs, not so much, and that's where I'd like to point a finger at my idea from the "barrels are OP." thread about adding a log sling to the game. There's solutions here, people just need to be invested in making them happen.
