      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

How hard would it be...

7 posts in this topic

to add ONE mob to TFC? My husband was wanting to use a creative map to make the town for our D&D game, and the game involves mammoths. Would it be possible to make, essentially, a copy of the current TFC cow mob, but give it the mammoth skin from the Archaeology mod?

I've never made mods myself, but I'm willing to learn and to tinker. Experienced folks, how doable is this?

The difficulty of doing such a thing would depend on your knowledge of Java.

Technically, it's just like making any other forge mod, just that your mod would depend on TFC.

The copy-reskin-cow approach would work but it would still look like a cow :), i would use Techne and just make a new mammoth model.

So in other words, if you can make your own forge mod, you are ready to make a TFC addon.

If you never made a forge mod but are good with Java, start here -- http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Tutorials

If you have little or no knowledge in Java, then moding MC is maybe not the best place to start with. Trust me, it will only give you migraines.

From which source it may be possible to learn Java?

I found Vswe's summer courses quite nice: http://courses.vswe.se/

The first two, "Coding and a cup of java" and "Thinking with objects" will teach you some general Java skills. The courses then proceed further with teaching how to mod Minecraft, but you have to keep in mind that the methods shown there are meant for 1.6.x and oftentimes no longer apply to modding 1.7.x due to the extensive under-the-hood changes.

The lectures themselves are Youtube videos, and there are practice problems provided with each episode.

(Vswe is an accomplished modder who does, among other things, Steve's Carts and Steve's Factory Manager).

Also, good thing while learning is to find someone experienced with enough time, and show him your stuff so he can review and point out ways to improve your style and logic.

May I suggest Project Zulu, this mod has recently been taken over and ported to 1.7.10

Amongst many other animals it does contain quite sizable mammoths.

Im not sure if the mod will work with TFC .. but it might for your purposes.
