Carrying on your back?

I may be being really stupid here, but I made some Large vessels.

They say Heavy, Large, and Slot: Back (in bright pink!)

 

Yet I can carry them around perfectly fine in my normal inventory?

How are they suppose to work?

Fill and seal them, then you have to put them in your back slot. The slot is to the right of your chest armor slot.

The only time that you absolutely must carry large vessels or barrels on your back is when they actually have stuff inside. As Hector49er stated, this only happens when you seal the barrel. If you don't seal the vessel/barrel, and then you break it and pick it up.. it drops all the stuff on the ground because Steve is clumsy and it needs a lid on it.

Awesome, this is a great addition to the game since you really need to travel a lot in this mod.

I assume if you die while carrying it, it still drops as an item that will disappear in time along with everything in it?

Correct, it should be dropping just like everything else in your inventory, as a single item.

I guess what he meant was that when it drops as an item when dying, everything in it will be destroyed and unrecoverable ...

I'm assuming Kitty meant that the thing on your back will drop and keep everything contained in it when it drops.

It would be a bit stupid if dropping it lost everything inside.

CreepyD is correct. It drops as an item that keeps everything contained in it. The behavior is absolutely no different than what happens when you die and drop the small ceramic vessels full of your food and stuff.
