      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

BUG: Sulfur on Trees

12 posts in this topic

Version #:

SSP/SMP (Single/MultiPlayer): Single Player

Suggested Name: Sulfur worldgen bug

Suggested Category: Minor

Description:

So apparently sulfur grows on trees and in dirt, more funny than annoying. I thought I should mention it just so people are aware of it.

post-13230-0-73920500-1414152176_thumb.p   post-13230-0-57845900-1414152187_thumb.p

Have you deleted your config files and are still able to reproduce this bug?: Yes

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed?: Yes

If yes, which mods?

Fastcraft

Dynamic Lights

NEI (& TFC Plugin)

Optifine

Shaders

Smart Moving

EDIT: I was using TFC version 0.79.9.357 when I found the bug, but I created the world in 0.79.8 if that helps

Lava automatically places sulfur on several blocks around it over time. This includes grass and trees. In my personal opinion i would prefer a stone border around every lava pocket by default so this wouldn't happen.

Btw: You left out the version

It is reasonable for lava to be placing sulphur on dirt blocks

Placing sulphur on grass blocks is reasonable, if the grass dies from the sulphur

As for trees......Yeah that's pretty ridiculous. Perhaps the temperature around lava should be high enough for trees not to be able to grow within sulphur placement range

I think they should keep it for the dirt blocks, but just make it that it doesn't appear on the top.

As for trees, no.

What is a bug is that trees (and tree leaves) don't burn by lava...

Trees and tree leaves wouldn't burn just by being near lava.

They would likely burn if they were brought into contact with lava, but certainly not by just being near it

Of course the high temperatures would not be healthy for the tree, so its likely the tree would die (possibly by the tree equivalent of dehydration)

They dont burn when lava is flowing around them. See for yourself. :)

On the subject of trees dying around lava, I agree with Palisight on the point of lava killing the tree. I have a fire pit in my backyard, and a small summer fire killed the branches of a tree standing a meter away. SInce lava tends to be hotter than a fire, I think it's very reasonable to strip any trees near lava of their leaves. Would be really cool if the terrain responded to the presence of lava a bit more - dead grass, bare trees, ect. It would also be really cool if lava caused a localized spike in temperature.

It will, when body temp gets introduced

Lava not setting trees on fire IS a bug. Sulfur on trees is NOT a bug.
