      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Question that will become a suggestion

9 posts in this topic

Okay guys I have a question cause I am slightly confused. Is Minecraft a game in which we follow an age progression (like Sid Meier's except in first person) or is it a survival game? I always thought it was the later but I keep hearing comments like "Dynamite wasn't invented until the 19th century" (not picking on you just the first thing that came to mind) so I'm a little confused what do you think?

Vanilla Minecraft is purely a survival game. Almost fantasy. This mod however aims to be somewhat realistic with reasonable breaks from reality

Not quite what I mean. I get that this mod is reality with a twist (so as to be more exciting). But what reality are we twisting you said minecraft is survival is it still that way with this mod or are we now in some sort of time progression.

In a way this mod makes your progress, because i makes you create all these structures(forge and bloomery) for you to be able to go on. So in a way it makes you progress, by the i mean you have two ages atm(that im aware off), these ages are stone age and metal age, bioxx at the moment made it so your can progress throught two ages but i am sure he will do more ages and more feeling of progressions in future updates. Hope that explained what you wanted to know... If you want to know more just Quote this post.

It is a good question, and one I've been wondering about as well...

The short answer, as I understand it, is that it's supposed to be progressive, not survival. Which means you will have to go through things in order... Bioxx mentioned not doing concrete ages (I think?) but it's still kinda implied by the style of the game, with the way you can't make Iron without making Bronze, fx.

This mod is inspired by Dwarf Fortress and the technical details that Minecraft tends to hop over. It does not have any enforced ages and people do not have their own tech tree or the like to unlock. We do refer to 'ages' however simply for ease of conversation. Those ages are currently the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Steel Age.. Now before people ask where the starter metals are, they are part of the stone age.. Just like there are multiple levels of Steel under the Steel Age. These are just classical classifications for the separations, not literal what metal comes after another for their names.

Secondly, Whats the suggestion here? I have moved this to discussion, once you get enough of your questions answered to have a suggestion I welcome you to post just that suggestion in the appropriate forum :)

Just realized I forgot to put my suggestion here. I was just going to basically say what was said on the biome based everything mod and also other survival focused gear rather than the whole "this used to work like this" idea.

Edit: Although i have to say that thread is a little more organized than my idea.

I don't view Minecraft as an age progression game. It's just a quirky block building game with TNT and spacemen because the developers thought that would be fun.

I guess this whole problem with "this stuff is too high-tec" is only happening because the mod is still in development and the suggestions are toward the early-game aspects, like stone age and metal age. I guess once this ground is covered, revised and working properly we could be suggesting stuffs for mid-eras and beyond... I would love to see advanced weapons such as arquebuses, old-fashion revolvers, bullet produce system with different types of metals and of course dynamite! But I guess this isn't the time...
