      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Forged by "playername" tooltip/Player signatures

4 posts in this topic

So, I've been forging on multiple servers for awhile. It's the unavoidable skill I always excel in. When I'm starting out I usually make ALOT of bronze tools. Mainly due to my constant supply of copper and tin from other players. I make serious bank selling copper and bronze tools BACK to players starting out and by the time I have a bloomery I already have a huge smithing skill. It really helps out the server community and my own progression. But most of the time players are accusing me of casting tools to save resources and selling them at a ratio that is equal to a forged tool. I get very frustrated with the inability to prove that my tools are forged. Especially when I mass produce Bronze maces for new players at a lay-away price. My pirce for maces has always been 300 units of bronze. I then get backlash form other players that I'm actually casting them and selling for a 1-3 ratio instead of a 2-3 to save resources and increase gains. I don't like casting tools because it's expensive and time consuming. It costs clay, wood, and straw with no benefit to skill or durability. The clay molds break after using and my clay is usually used towards food storage, ingot molds, and water jugs, (I break sooo many jugs it's ridiculous). Now, i'm not saying i'm against the mechanics of it, no. It's a very important step in advancing and obtaining tools early in the game. I don't want it removed or simplified.I do however wish for an added tooltip on items when they are made. Some way to prove that my items are in fact forged. For example: A casted copper pick would have a note on it's tool tip telling that it was in fact casted. It would be easy to tell by the obvious line on any object that was created in a mold. A forged item would show it was forged but also by the player who forged it. Casted tools would not have a signature option. Some popular smiths in history engraved their signature on their works. So why not be able to do so on your own forged item in TFC. It very easy to do so in the metalworking process in real life.I'm not sure if this was brought up in another suggestion. Scanning through the other suggestions I did see "naming tools" but I felt this would be a tad different. Please let me know if this was in fact talked about in another topic i would like to be part of the discussion. :D

There's actually already code in place for this to happen, but it's been commented out as it isn't quite working as intended.

Oh? That's fantastic! Thank you! I'm sorry it isn't going as planned, but I'm very much looking forward to it now.
