      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Solved] Slime Spawning Conditions

13 posts in this topic

For TFCSlimes is there a swamp biome condition? I've been playing around (using opis and Mob Spawning Controls 2) and can't get a slime to spawn. I've not been able to find a swamp to test if there is a biome condition.

I know the wiki is still playing catch up but I'm pretty sure slimes are not a naturally spawning mob in TFC. wiki:Mobs.  Under hostile mobs they are not listed.

Edit: Wording to be more clear.

Slimes spawn using the same old requirements of slime chunks, I do not believe there is the newer swamp biome addition in TFC. We have come across a few slimes during TFC Tuesdays using later builds of 79, so I can confirm that they do indeed spawn.

Odd. I've turned off all other mob spawning and still no slimes despite standing in the middle of a half dozen slime chunks. Hard mod and not a single mob :P Must be a condition I'm missing.

Yeah, I've never seen one and if it follows the old MC slime spawn rules that would explain why. (Mining is scary.)  I did jump to the conclusion they don't spawn since they aren't on the wiki either. Thanks for the info Kitty.

To Bunsan: are you at Y39 or lower? I'm pretty sure that was the old max height.

In 1.6.4 they spawn on surface all the way down to bedrock. So will be same in 1.7.10. Just in case though I took a slime chunk down to bedrock. I'll play with the spawn weights and see if I can get spawns.

It's been so long I don't remember what changes happened when, either way good luck to you on your hunt! :D  Least we know from Kitty that they do for sure spawn in b79.

Yeah I'm at a loss as to their conditions. Vanilla apparently it is below lvl 40 in slime chunks and between 50-70 in swamps. I've made spawning platforms for the slimes in a slime chunks in a swamp biome (which oddly has no lilypads) in all those ranges and can not get a slime to spawn with default TFC spawning (no MSC2 loaded) or even if I turn off all other mobs and crank up the spawning rate by a factor of 4 with MSC2. I don't doubt that they spawn, but I'm at a loss as to the conditions. I think I'll just sort out a work around to substitute slime balls for sticky pistons.

From what I can find in the TFC code, slimes in TFC simply extend the very old (think pre-1.6.4) original vanilla conditions of below a certain height (y=40), and only in slime chunks. While vanilla has updated to add extra stuff such as swamp biomes, TFC has not updated to match those changes.

Thanks for help, since I can't convince them to show their gelatinous selves in any reasonable manner I'll just find a plan B to my schemes. I realize there is a pretty obvious one anyways.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening!

So did some quick re-read of an old slime chuck farming thread and yeah they are as evil to get as I remember. lol  (Least it's not the old height of Y16 or lower, right?)  Aside from having to dig down to bedrock and create some spawning platforms you'll also want to light up any nearby caves.  Skellies, zombies and creepers of course have the higher chance to spawn and with how rare slime spawns are you are more likely have those spawning in near by caves vs slimes on your platforms.  Don't forget like all hostile mobs they can't spawn within 25 blocks of you so once you are set up you'll need to move away and let it happen.

I know you have a plan B now (Which is probably easier, lol) but in case you feel like giving it another go for precious slime balls, more info!

Edit: Did some checking (Creative); dug down; cleared and area; light up nearby caves(ish).  I've not had any slimes spawn in the 'slime chunk' I cleared but I did have 2 spawn in a nearby ravine at around the Y22 mark.

Thanks Xen. I had read much the same thing. In my tests I can avoid lighting up caves since I can turn off all hostile mobs except slimes. More for my own curiosity I think I'll do a larger test to sort out where they are spawning. Clear out 8x8 chunks and setup spawning platforms by chunk. Maybe there is a change in the algorithm to determine chunks. Using WE as I'm not crazy. Waste of time for my plans, but may help others in base TFC.

@Kitty. Do you know where the slimes were found. The only place I know that is substantially deep is the deep mine at base. Otherwise it suggests that they may actually spawn higher.

I don't know the exact y-level, but I do know that it was really deep down at the bottom of a ravine in the bottom layer of stone.
