      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

[Solved] Cooking plant foods

5 posts in this topic

I read in the wiki that any food can be cooked and that cooked foods have a .75 modifier. I don't know if this only applies to cooked meets or for fruits and vegitables too. I cooked vegitables and they look like they decay at the same rate as the raw.

What do you mean by "look like they decay at the same rate"? How exactly did you test it? There's enough randomness in the original decay tick, that you can't really test if they are decaying at the same rate or not by just looking at one or two pieces of food to compare.

Open up a creative world, and fill half of your inventory with 160 oz of raw green beans in each slot, and the other half with 160 oz of cooked green beans in each slot. Then use the debug time commands to skip forward one day, watch as the decay catches up, and then skip forward another day. Rinse and repeat a few times and it will be come very obvious that the raw green beans are decaying faster. Do not trim any decay off of the food during this process.

Here's a set of cooked green beans and raw green beans after 10 in-game days. They were all cheated in at exactly the same time, and had 0.0% decay when I started.

As you can see, all the raw green beans are past 10% decay, while none of the cooked ones are.

do ALL food items decay slower when cooked? not taking into account the other preservation methods, of course

Yes. There wasn't a simple way to make it so that meat decays slower when cooked, but veggies decay faster.
