      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Stuck ground

9 posts in this topic

Reduce the stack 32 to ground 16 (or 8 or 4). stack of logs consists of 16 logs stack ground but 2 times more. ground inconvenient to carry. And unlike logs land is 1 cubic unit.

The gist is they want the max stack size of dirt, likely cobble and stone as well, reduced to at least 16, but suggests 4 or 8 would be good.

I say if you want this all the power to you. There are mods that can do this for you.

I suggest a standard size stack of dirt. I do not argue that its size can be changed.

A balance must be struck somewhere between what is convenient for the gamer and what is realistic, especially within the constraints of the game engine. It's not like we can ever enter an industrial revolution, build backhoes and the like, and move mountains of dirt in that manner.  I, personally, would not like a change to the dirt stack by default. If you would like to configure your own game to run with smaller stacks using the command suggested above, all power to you.  But I would protest a global default change, as it would not enhance any "fun" I experience in the game, and I imagine many would feel similarly.

Besides, if you really wanted to make it realistic, you'd want 1 block of dirt, stone, or other ground material to use the new "Overencumbered" mechanics: Pick it up, put it on your back, lug it somewhere, place it, repeat ad nauseum.

I'm only suggesting a workaround for your suggestion because it will never be implemented as standard. You can change stack size for yourself. If you play on a multiplayer server, then just roleplay you cannot carry more.

Or even "build sack, basket, or wheelbarrow before you can even move a single block of dirt a larger distance than you can throw it with a shovel". And of course multiply the time it takes to dig out even one single stone block to several hours. As you say, there's a balance between realism and convenience - or even playability. I doubt that many people would enjoy the game if even simple building and earthmoving became a several-hour job.

As Terex said, this won't be done by the devs. They work hard to try and balance to make gameplay challenging while not making building too painful.

For moving dirt and stone there is also a balance between challenging inventory management and making mining/excavating annoying as can be.
