      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

4 posts in this topic

Have you read, understood, and followed all of the rules listed in large text at the top of the support forum? (Yes/No):

Yes

TFC Version #: 0.79.17

Forge Version #: 10.13.2.1291

SSP/SMP (SinglePlayer/MultiPlayer):  MultiPlayer

Description:

If you remove the blocks behind the bloomery block then the bloomery block can disappear - thies ONLY happens in multiplayer mode.

Have you deleted your config files or are using default configs and are still able to reproduce this bug? (Yes/No):

I created a "fresh" TFC install with ONLY TFC in order to test out the bug.

Do you have any mods other than Forge and TFC installed? (Yes/No):
If yes, which mods?
Te original bug was seen on a multiplayer server, with the following client mods installed

I created a "fresh" TFC install with ONLY TFC in order to test out the bug.

If you have Optifine or Cauldron installed, can you still reproduce the bug after uninstalling them? (Yes/No):

N/A

Not a crash so no crash report.

There was a post last year about a blomery being "lost" when the blocks behind it were demolished.  This was put down to the bloomery block simply "pinging" out a long way from the original place, and was "fixed" in 0.78.16 according to the changelog:

  • [*]"Bloomery doors should no longer go flying away when broken."

I just had a similar thing happen on a multi-player server running 0.78.17 with no other mods on the server.  I had already searched in the vicinity of the bloomery, even demolishinghalf of my smithy in the process, but could not find a "pinged" bloomery anywhere.  I had expected it to still be in place, or to have popped into my inventory, but that was not the case.

I think this is a significant issue - especially when you consider how much work and materials goes into making the darn thing!

If I try the same on a creative world, the bloomery doesn't pop.  Only when you actually destroy one of the blocks actually *touching*  the bloomery - which I hadn't done in MP.
And when it *does*  pop then it doesn't fly out.

I've dome a little more research and discovered the following:
I started a single player world, and then opened it to LAN , enabling cheats.
I then switched into creative mode and built a 2-high bloomery structure and put the bloomery "door" on.

I then switched back to survival mode and proceeded to demolish the middle of the bloomery

Looking from the top, using * for stone, O for air or the "chimney" where you put the ore, and B for the bloomery block:

Bottom layer:
O*O

O*O <-- I demolished this vertical "slice"

O*O

Middle layer:

O*O

*O* <-- I demolished this vertical "slice"

*B*

Top layer:

O*O

*O* <-- I demolished this vertical "slice"

***

After demolishing one side of the chimney, I could still see the bloomery doors (from the back). Then after demolishing one block on the other side, I watched the bloomery block simply disappear after a couple of seconds (sometines it was as long as 5 seconds).

This is completely repeatable - if you demolish three of the five blocks making up that slice then the bloomery block simply disappears before your eyes.

It doesn't "ping" out, it simply disappears.

I can verify this bug and refine it a bit. If you build a valid bloomery structure, place block and then destroy any of the needed blocks (besides the ones adjacent to the bloomery block) the bloomery block will vanish. It appears to vanish on a random update tick as it is variable when it will vanish, but it will always vanish. If the bloomery block is manually updated, trying to open or placing a block against it (clicking on another block to place) it will pop off and give the bloomery block back.
