Only help if you can be helpful

Hey All, A topic has come up of late in the IRC channel in regards to the general feel of the forums and the community that supports them. Things have progressed further than I would have liked with out this being addressed more publicly because I would much rather have snubbed this out sooner rather than later.. but I have been busy. Here is the general rule I would like people to follow: Wheaton's Law "Don't be a dick." Those of you from the IRC channel know that this is the only rule I ask people in there to follow and we generally have a good and lively time chatting about all manner of things. This is basic rule that just about everyone understands and I am going to expand it to the forums from here moving forward. If you can not help people in a helpful and polite manner then I simply ask you to stop. Now I generally take a back seat to moderating the forums as I like to participate in the suggestions forum fairly heavily at times and would rather do so as a forums user than a moderator. But I am also fairly well known for being the person who constantly puts their foot down and so I am stepping up and doing so on here. If you find yourself unable to respond to a message politely then I ask that you do not respond. This mostly focuses on the increasing level of hostility found within the Suggestion forum as well as the Server forum. I do not care if this is the 30th some odd time you have seen someone make the same suggestion. Or even if the new post on an older topic is one entry above the old one. I expect the members of this forum to respond politely to the user, new or old, and point to the older topic if it applies and even go the extra step to suggest they either add in new information or to summarize the outcome of the previous discussion based upon the new post's entry into it. That is what we are here for, that is why I close most topics instead of deleting them, so that they can be found and referenced down the road. The next topic is the slew of derailment attempts I have seen as of late. If you want to have fun and joke around that is what the off topic forum is for and pretty much anything goes there. I do not expect to read a suggestion thread and have to go through 3 pages of image memes people have shot back and forth. Quite simply this is a waste of my time to read and then have to clean up. Now for the summary. I am going to start taking a more active role, especially in policing the suggestion forum, and handing out warn levels to people whom I see doing this. These will be indiscriminate and applied not to just the first person who derails or is impolite on a topic or response, but to everyone whom follows the lead of that person. As I do not like doing things with out giving you all warning this post shall serve as that warning. If you have a desire to bring this topic up with me then I invite you to do so on the IRC channel. Lets raise the level of quality and grow the community. Let us not descend into the quality often found on the minecraft or league of legend forums. There is simply no need for that here. Be passionate about things, just do not be abusive.

      Offline Servers

Recently I've seen a few server listings showing up on the first page of the Servers forum that have been closed for an extended period of time, but have recently gotten a reply from a new member who didn't realize the server is offline. To help prevent this from happening in the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the report function on the original post of any servers that have been confirmed as offline, so that the topic may be locked. If you are the admin of a server and plan on taking the server offline, please use the report function on the original post of your topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be locked. If you are the admin of a server that has a locked topic, and would wish to bring the server back online, please use the report function on the original post of the topic to let the TFC Staff know that the topic should be unlocked. As always, please remember to follow rule #3 of the servers forum and update your topic title to contain the version of TFC that the server is currently running. You can do so by editing the OP, and then clicking on "Use Full Editor."

Sorry for the delay fixing. I had grabbed one of the early NEI dependent versions. It is fixed now.

Edit: This is now working after my computer went through windows 10 updates?? No idea. Disregard I guess.

Edit 2: Journey Map needs to be updated in this pack, if you wish to use it for a multiplayer server. Otherwise it does not show entities.

I am back and working on my pack again, so I will probably need to pick your brain fairly soon :D

Welcome back. Sounds good. Probably the best place to bug me is in my IRC channel #technode

just tried to down load your pack using the 0.79.26.881 TFC version and it crashed first run.  I am not well versed in reading crash reports so have no idea what I need to do to correct it.

I've also had a number of crashes, on initialisation - perhaps this is the "major crash" that is fixed in b78?
It seems a bit more stable nnow - no idea why, but the incidence of crashing hs dropped from almost every time I try to load a game to almost never.  There's been a java update in there (but not until after the crashes had settled down), but otherwise nothing I can think of

This is likely the railcraft TFC-tweaks issue that is fixed. I'll update pack when I return home next week.

Just for info - *I* am not using railcraft, but am using TFC Tweaks.

There is a well documented crash in build 27 that is fixed in 28. The report says build 26. If you are getting a crash then report it properly with a crash report. Giving a "I'm crashing with stuff" is useless and really annoying.

Please learn to properly report bugs/issues as it will serve you well in many things. Reporting like this will just result in you being ignored or told to piss off.

Here is the first report of the render bug after 27 release. I could link a number of other threads, some locked as it was on the Official Bug list already.

I'd link the official bug list, but since it was fixed in 28 it was resolved. It is first entry in 28 changelog.

I'm not being rude. It is honestly a skill that should be taught in high school. Reporting bugs/issues in a constructive and effective manner benefits developers and users.

Thanks.  I am assuming that my crash is the B27 "major crash" and have manually updated my client to B28.

has anyone been having issues when scraping hide on the leather rack? I scrape it like I have always done in the past, but when I pick it up it stays as soaked hide. I am using this modpack so I don't know if the issue is TFC or a conflict with this modpack.

yeah i am not missing any spots....been playing TFC for a couple years now and this has only started now. Tried right clicking each spot with knife....tried dragging knife across until all spots are scraped. The only thing that could be different is that I updated to version 79.28 which is different than the version on the AT launcher.

I don't change anything with TFC in this pack. Is your instance just TFC? Or are there other addons in there?

Test with just TFC 28 and if it is still a problem log with Kitty.

I'll be updating the pack soon as I can, but real life and stomach bugs have delayed me.

no problem...I have all the addons available from your pack on the launcher. Just wanted to find out here first before I made a bug report. Thanks :)

edit: It was a resourcepack issue...derp. There was an "invisible" spot I had to scrape.

Ah can't be done retro? That is odd. Let me test and I'll poke Dries about it.

Edit: I'm a bit confused. If you don't set it to true then it should crash on pack load. You then set it to true and it should load. Or do you mean upgrading from a past world you can't have it set to true?

Edit 2: Be aware that reinstalling pack clears the config folder, so you won't have a TFC-Tweaks config until you run the pack once, have it crash and then you can edit the config.

Ok would help if I read Dries thread properly.

So for TFC-Tweaks to load properly needs the InjectedDependencies.json file to be in the config folder. This isn't generated until first load, so you will currently crash the first load, but after that it will be fine. To unify the water so that RC machines use TFC Fresh Water you need to set fluid hacks to true.

I've tested and you can swap the fluid hacks between true and false without issue.

I'll have the pack load the injectedDependencies.json file when you select TFC-Tweaks. This will prevent the first crash, but you'd still need to run pack once to generate the TFC-Tweaks config to set the hacks to true. if you so desired.

ok thank you, but yes i was trying to change the config after loading and starting a new game. Even after crashing it didn't add the json file in.
