      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Is there a way to get sticks besides breaking leaves, if not there should be.

Once you get a scythe and a Willow tree farm, you'll hate sticks for the rest of your life.

This mod is going for realistic, i don't think that its very realistic that you would only use branches instead of carving handles out of wood for tools once you have any sort of tool with a cutting edge.

True, but I would like to see something where you can take a hammer, smash a log and get maybe 6 sticks or something.

Agreed, isnt the branches the weakest wood on a tree?

Nope Actually branches are generally used because they retain their flexability. Making them great for things that need some flex to them like fishing poles, bedding, Arrows shafts are generally made from young sapplings or branches.

Yeah agreed! But I was thinking of tool handles? (imagines a hammer with rubber-like handle, hehehe)

Most tools originally used 1" (ish) branches because they were far less time & labour intensive to obtain.

Have you ever tried chopping wood with an axe that doesn't flex? You understand then that with no flex in an axe handle it breaks on the first swing. As far as it being the weakest, wrong it has two to four times the tensile strength due to how many layers it has. Heartwood is great and all but it has little to no place in making tools. Now maybe if you added in a way to treat the wood maybe I could see it. Even that has too many problems though, it would be more expensive and time consuming then just going and clicking once on a tree with your scythe.

I have. I have two axes, one with a metal handle and the other is a double-edge with a wooden handle (made of hardwood). If it did flex it would increase the time it took to hack up some wood. Having a flexible handle causes you to lose some of the power going into your swing. Think of it as if someone grabbed your baseball bat mid swing, you wouldn't be delivering as much power unless you put more effort into your arm movements to compensate for the fact that the bat isn't going to be able to provide the follow-through power.

Also, don't forget that the focus of the mod isn't reality and realism - those are just the inspiration and ideas that provide a believable feeling for the game.

I think you will find that all industrial axe handles do Flex.Same for hammers, shovels etc... I am a Bellota employee. But home made handles works to,depends on the worker...

EDIT: we are working with partially new handles made of fiberglass, practically unbreakable.

The inability to bend is the ability to break. Doesn't matter if your talking about metal, wood, or food. It's just a fact.

P.S. Just because you cann't see it bend doesn't mean it didn't. I.E. fiberglass is very flexable but retains enough rigidness to deliver to sturdy blow without destroying the individual tensils

Well at the very least some sticks should come off the tree when its chopped down, In fact it should probably produce saplings too, that was one thing that annoyed me that if i wanted to get saplings id have to individually punch the leaves before chopping the tree, but a lower drop rate then if they were punched would be good.

That's actually not a bad idea, though I think I've seen it in a thread before. Something about the leaves falling into piles on the ground when you chop trees down, and being able to search the piles. I can't for the life of me find it, so it's probably one of those threads titled along the lines of "I have a suggestion" instead of what the suggestion actually is. That trend is starting to bug me a bit.
