      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Livestock escaping?

12 posts in this topic

Not sure if this is a feature or not, but my animals keep escaping my pens. I'll go off for a little while and come back to find one of them is on the loose. What must I do to ensure that they stay where they're supposed to?

Vanilla issue. The animals can be in same block as fence. When chunk reloads it doesn't know which side of the fence block to put animal.

Also if you have any blocks inside the fence right by it, that'll allow animals to hop over.  Or if you don't fence 1 beyond elevation changes, if there fence has elevation changes.

Solution is to put the animals in a 2 block deep pit.

I do livestock pits or pens with solid block walls, usually backed by a cliff at least 3 blocks tall.

Okay, thank you for your advice. I do wish the fences worked properly, though.

One way that people use fences is by doubling them, that usually prevents animals from escaping.

another thing that bugs me with TFC animals is the way they all crowd around a fence gate when you place one...

I think at one time if you had some water in the pen, they would also tend to make a bee-line for that too... :)

That's kind of realistic in a way as anyone going into a animal pen may tell you. Domestic animals will surround you most of the times.

What I was meaning is that they crowd a fece gate whe there is one in the pen, you don't have to be there at the fence gate, but point taken, domesticated animals will come to you IRL.

I only use a single fence without pits and I've never had this issue in over 2 years of playing.  I do give them a lot of room though.  At least 4 blocks per animal.  Perhaps overcrowding is part of the cause?
