      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Shield progression

Opinions may differ on this, but I actually enjoy the 1.9 combat.  There's a natural ebb and flow to it that is just more satisfying than wildly clicking.  You have to take the time to aim so that a missed swing doesn't leave you open to counterattack.  You develop a natural rhythm of attack - block - attack.

Unfortunately, the whole thing falls apart if you don't have a shield.  You're left backed into a corner desperately hoping that you can survive long enough to make another strike.

I assume that TFC2 will have a corresponding shield for each metal armor set.  I just wanted to suggest pushing shield progression all the way down to the stone age.  Wicker shields and wooden shields are a thing, after all.

Won't the rhythm be attack - back away - jump attack? That is how I usually engage in combat.

 

I do agree with 0-tier shield, tho.

Have you actually used the shields in 1.9 at all? I've definitely only ever seen other players do attack - block - attack, without any backing up.

I am 100% for shields, including a Tier 0 option for more effective escapes, as most of your time in the Stone Age is spent running away from shit.
