      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

      There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
      If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
      I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

A small question

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask you a question that has been in my mind for the last day.

Right now TFC 2 is dependant on Pam's Harvestcraft for its food items; without it, the player will starve. Is this a permanent choice, or is it only a temporary mean of getting food? In other words, will TFC 2 implement food items in the future or will it rely on other mods for that?

Last I heard, Bioxx doesn't want to get into food again when there's already other mods that do it well.  As far as I know harvestcraft is going to be a permanent fixture.  I believe there were plans to package them together, though, so you don't have to get them separately and some things about harvestcraft will be tweaked when running with TFC2.

My impression is that using Harvestcraft is the long-term plan.   However, there is reason to believe that getting the initial crops from gardens is not set in stone, but perhaps just expedient for now.  If you're asking if there will be a mix of Harvestcraft foodstuff, and native TFC2 stuff, hard to tell.  But if you want more stuff, for now you may do better to suggest stuff to Pam, maybe.  Which may only be doable through her patreon, maybe.

it'd be interesting if we could get a seed breeding mechanic similar to agricraft. (though the cross-breeding to produce different species of seed is a bit silly, i'm referring to increasing yields, perhaps improving growth rates or somesuch)

I don't know about agricraft, but seed genetics has been suggested in the agriculture thread.

Hopefully we can still get some of the old food items back in Tfc1. I felt they were really cool!

The future of TFC2 foods is wide open still. Harvestcraft is there because it contains a lot of the recipes and items saving quite a bit of work. The most likely scenario is that additional mechanics will be layered on top of harvestcraft. As a possible example. TFC2 crops that when harvested produce harvestcraft foods, or putting harvestcraft grapes in a TFC2 barrel allows you to make TFC2 wine, etc.

This. More will be done in time to TFC-ify Harvestcraft

Would It Not Be A Good Idea For A Few Foods To Be Added With Tfc2 So Its Not Completely Relied On Pam's But To Also Have A Slightly Wider Range. I Recommend Adding Seaweed back Into Tfc2 And Add A Few Foods Like Mushroom Stews Seaweed Soups Apples Orange Bushes Etc And Maybe Flavoured Waters That Would Hydrate You More.

It's always possible that I might add other foods beyond pams, but for now using pams has saved me weeks of coding.
