      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. Hiding through the first few nights

Anecdotal, but in 79.15, on 2 seeds, I've made the trek down to the equator and stopped seeing any and all animals or crops by around -4000. Around -7000 to -10000 is a sweet spot for all the crops, fruits, and animals you could want though.
  2. This really spices up generated terrain... I find myself interested in exploring parts of terrain that I never would have, like following large river systems through mountainous jungles... Really incredible. Thank you for your work!
  3. Torch Poll

Perfect! I'll be re-enabling torch burnout because of this. Thank you. It wasn't so combersome up until later copper age, but by that point the extent of daily base operations far expanded past the spawn protection, and the chore of lighting 3 dozen torches every couple days just became stupid. The feature is cool overall, but the question asked in the poll really needs to take into account that the mechanic is only usable with a more permanent light source available. I'm guessing if you turned off glowing pumpkins today, tomorrow 95% of your "i like this!" votes would turn into "are you serious right now?"
  4. I can also confirm crash on InsaneJ's server with MC+Forge(recommended)+TFC(.17)+Rei's i7 4770, 1G java heap, 64-bit 1.7. No Optifine installed, nVidia GTX 460. For me the crash isn't preceded by any abnormal CPU usage or memory usage, no slow-down. It seemed to reliably occur when going to a specific town (winterhold/helm?)
  5. Coolgardie Safes

What, you mean they're not naturally pearly white? I jest, I lived in the midwest for a while, and I did have chickens. Though they never laid eggs (that I found... dogs could have been snatching them or something)
  6. Coolgardie Safes

LOL- I'll take your word on the eggs. I know they get pretty rancid if left out unrefrigerated, and pretty quickly. My bananas typically last around a month before I'm not so keen on eating them. However, I do usually get them slightly pre-ripe (but I don't mind eating them that way, or once they've significantly browned). They don't rot away, they just get too mushy to want to eat anymore eventually. I'm sure my climate (pacific northwest) has a lot to do with that. I probably wouldn't bet on them lasting as long at my father's house in the midwest.
  7. Coolgardie Safes

You misunderstand me- I love the decay. It was a terrific idea. It's just not quite up to snuff yet. Needs some major fine tuning. For the super-perishables, it's good. For the not-so-perishables, it's pretty far from good. I, for example, can leave apples, oranges, and bananas on my counter for quite a long time before they're no longer viable. EDIT: I have of course moved my food storage to the coolest, darkest area possible.. Another dynamic that I love. The decay rates for grains and fruits still remain a bit harsh. I'm also hesitant to mess with the food decay, because I think it's just about perfect for the really perishable items like meat/eggs. Those things shouldn't last without preservation.
  8. Do forgive me, and perhaps my Java is a bit rusty, but nothing is "added" to the ChunkCache. It's just an x>>4/y>>4 (x/16, y/16) static Array[][]. Inserts and deletes into and out of it are done statically, within the confines of the initial allocation. By my reading, that function absolutely has to be fed bad data in order to overflow the Chunk[][] array. I could be wrong. I am a professional software engineer, but Java isn't my first, second, third, or even fifth language.
  9. Unlikely. I know you work with the code, and so I know you know what that error means, and it's not a lack of processing power or resources. Also, if my Haswell 4770 with 32GB of ram isn't badass enough to handle it, I guess it's time to throw in the towel.
  10. Coolgardie Safes

I can't speak for him, but I would say something similar; it would be because there's no realistic way you're going to keep 3 stacks of apples in play before 1 rots away, and more likely 2. Food storage is basically non-existent. I can't store any kind of food whatsoever for longer than it'll take me to eat the current 1.25 ceramic jars in my inventory (1 near full stack of each type). I mostly blame the cumulative decay calculation. I think it should be modified to be linear.
  11. Smokehouse Multiblock Structure!

Well, you could use charcoal just fine, really, and most at-home smokers do, just with added aromatic woods. The charcoal burns relatively cleanly (imparting little flavor), while the woods do not, passing the aromatics to the outer layers of the meat. Smoking falls under seasoning and preservation, really. Smoking has anti-microbial effects along with the cooking, and further enhances the preservative effects of salt-curing the meat. From a gameplay perspective, I like the idea of a smokehouse being a place where you can preserve your food, and store it... Because realistically, I don't store any food anymore. It's impossible to keep on top of it in my climate. Go for a long mining expedition, come back to a bunch of empty clay pots. And that's kinda silly.
  12. How

I think it works if it's under running water. Maybe it doesn't consider a flowing water block as water for the restriction (whether purposeful or not). I certainly hope that isn't removed. I also enjoy panning for the ores for my first ingot, so i hope that isn't nerfed *too* severely in the future. I have no problem with it requiring a lot of panning, that's entirely believable. I've found that trying to get an ingot worth of ground ores is often a near impossible task on many seeds, or very easy on some, but they seem to be a minority
  13. Geography

What is that purple flower in the picture? I've never seen one Also, I've had pretty good luck with finding relatively flat land on plains to make a settlement (usually by a lake). Obviously terraforming becomes required as your settlement grows to include larger structures, but that doesn't seem unreasonable to me
  14. slower starvation

Apologies! I thought you were implying it's cool to call people stupid because Bioxx used the word idiot in a commit.
  15. slower starvation

http://terrafirmacraft.com/f/forum-6/announcement-1-only-help-if-you-can-be-helpful/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wil_Wheaton#Wheaton.27s_law When you call someone stupid for their suggestion, regardless of your opinion of it, all you show is that in spite of your self-perceived intellectual superiority, you're actually far too socially crippled to be allowed to conduct yourself in a public forum of any kind. Bioxx is free to do whatever he likes, really, and certainly say whatever he likes in a changelog. And for reference, Kitty said: "However, there was an oversight of "if the damage type is starvation, multiply by 10" line of code that was mistakenly not removed.. so it's taking half of your health instead. This has been fixed for 79. You also only take starvation damage every half hour, and regenerate 1% of that back every half hour as well.. so at 4% every half hour, it's going to take the player about 12.5 in-game hours to die of starvation, or roughly 10 minutes." She changed context from build 78 to build 79 when she said "This has been fixed for 79." The following sentence could logically refer to build 78, or 79, which is why we have semicolons. The guy wasn't stupid for choosing the wrong one.
