  • State of the Mod 8/13/2014

    Bioxx

So it's been a month since the last state of the mod so I figure its high time for another update. I am going to try and do these each month from now on if I can remember, wish me luck!

In the past month there has been a bit of work done to polish various areas and yet there hasn't been a lot accomplished in others. The basics for the new taste stuff that was mentioned in the previous SotM has been implemented as well as some more Quality of Life stuff for us behind the scenes when it comes to food, but most of the new meal type stuff hasn't even been started.

It mostly comes down to me knowing what I want to do but not being sure how I want to present it. This includes everything from block/item art to gui layouts. As a result, some of the new meals may be delayed out of 79 entirely. It depends on what I can come up with in the near term.

As for 79 in general, it is in a pretty stable state. We've managed to close a lot of 1.7 related bugs that had been nagging at us as well as getting SMP working proper. Right now we are still on 1.7.2 but I expect to move to 1.7.10 before release which should not be a big process in all likelihood.

I know everyone is anxious to get to get their hands on 79, and I'm anxious to get it to you guys so I'll keep trying to push myself to knock out some of these features. Stay with us. We're getting there.

    Thanks for the update :)

You mentioned getting SMP working proper. Could you elaborate a little on what this entails? Does this mean solving bugs, optimizing performance, tweaking game-play?

Speaking of performance. Do you perhaps have any numbers on how the 79 build compares to the current build in regards to heavily populated servers?

SMP was crashing on load for 79. "Getting it working proper" just meant that it doesn't crash anymore.

Always nice to be kept in the loop :) Thanks for the update!

Yes, yes it is.  Thanks Bioxx, and the rest of the dev, team.

Does survival in b79 become more challenging than in b78? I'm curious to know. I'm especially interested in whether excessive hot or cold temperatures can kill the player.

If that does happen with temp affecting you cold chould proboly be countered by wearing armor and heat makes your thirst go down faster

I am so glad to hear that progress has been made.

Is frustrating to be on 1.6.4

As much as new features are always welcome, to be able to upgrade all our mods and plugins to 1.7.x is more of a priority for me.

Thank you for all your hard work.

    Thanks for the update, Bioxx.

I know you want to push yourself and all, and sometimes, that's good. Just make sure you don't burn yourself out again. :) It's always better to take a little extra time and do it right than to do it wrong quickly. Looking forward to the next build, regardless.

Thanks again for an amazing mod. I appreciate everything you and the others do.

Greetings from France for your work... i can't play again with the basically vanillia version. you gave a veritable sense to Minecraft gameplay. We're waiting for the update, that we hope it will be soon..

I have to say I HATE restarting... but with TFC, I give it a pass. The mod is pretty much all about the very beginning.

A new TFC release to coincide with the new MC 1.8 release would be sweet :P

Honestly, I'd rather you guys took your time and actually released it for 1.8. pre-1.8 snapshots rewrote a ton of ground level things and removed void fog, among others, and thanks to that 1.8 is FAAAAAR better optimized than 1.7.10.

How much better? With Fancy graphics and 32 chunk render size (double the old Far, only accessible with 64 bit Java and 2 GB ram allocated) on a pre-made map (I used High Rossferry City and a Dwarf Fortress map converted using Japa's new converter) and it worked better than 1.7 with Optifine, Fast Graphics and Tiny render size.

Mind you, my computer is far from being wooden - I can run most new releases on at least Medium, if not High graphics - and the current release of TFC is only playable if I don't explore new chunks.

i would gladly wait a couple of months longer to get built TFC 79 with MC1.8 if the performance is so much better. So its up to date with the vanilla.

Mods and MC versions all depend on MCP and Forge. So when the source code is out and stable enough, only then can the porting work begin, which is simple some of the times, but mostly it is a ton of work because MC is making so much changes with every new version.

For me, 1.7.10 > 1.8. The new version is not optimized at all, just tweaked in ways that causes other problems such as block lag.

it is almost impossible with they way Vanilla MC is going with all the code changes to get an up to date Mod working in time. Mod makers first have to wait for Forge to release the newest version which can sometimes take them months. After that, Mod creators can start working on making everything work again
