      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

  1. effective ways to mine?

Wow, I thought I was the only one who had figured out that method. However you did get one thing wrong, when you're on the block where the sample size gets smaller, you count (not including that block) TWELVE blocks each way. Every time. The 13th block is not needed since you can already see it.
  2. The Poles Distance Poll

Actual biome sorting according to climate and proper rock formations?! I love you in manly way Bioxx! Seriously, being a organic farmer I was thrilled with the agriculture updates. But this... This is just awesome. Period. I geuss I see your point. But still, it should be 50k.
  3. The Poles Distance Poll

I personally feel that it should be a 1:1 ratio at 250000 meters...
  4. My little apocalypse.

Bwahahahahaha! .......wait what? 0.0 god made a hole in the planet?!?!
  5. Where to settle?

Well, I decided where to settle eventually. I'm making a wall all the way around the huge mountain Platue. Its going to end up being a castle! Im budding with the land so I think it will be pretty cool. It's hard to explain, I post pictures of it once I get farther. There is a area where it gently slopes down into the ocean where I will have my gate. The ocean gives me quick and easy access to a bunch of biomes, including the most important to me, plains1. The reason why it's important is it's third rock layer is Gabbro, which I need crud tons of to build my castle, and more importantly need to find nickel to move into black and red steel. It also provides schist in the first layer and chert in the second, which I will be using as the roofs/walkways/other accents. Gabbro and chert lOok fantastic together. I also have quick acces to a granite desert and limestone ocean. The mountain itself is mudstone on layer one, but whatevs. I'm really excited about this! On the process of moving all my stuff and setting up a Gabbro quarry and (hopefully) nickel mine. Thanks for the advice!
  6. Where to settle?

So I have reached the steel age and I have full steel tools. I also have crap loads of everything except nickel, of which I have none. Recently my mines have gotten extremely messy, and my little house is basically coated with chests... I have the strong urge to move to a new area, build a cool base and start a neater mine. Here is the thing, I have been wandering around for a while and nothing has struck me as paticularly appealing. I found a mountains biome but it's not ULTRA epic, and my low render distance prevents me from appreciating it to the fullest... I'm not opposed or for anything at the moment, what areas do you like to settle in? P.S: I have shit tons of Dacite, Gabbro, Schist, and Chert bricks. What should I build? I'm just really bad at making decisions. I know this is a rather personal choice topic, but really any help you can give is greatly appreciated!
  7. Cave ins

If you use a chisel to smooth a block that might cause a cave in and THEN break it as smooth stone, will that prevent any chance of a cave in happening?
  8. Where to settle?

Ohhh, that's a good idea! All I could think of was a castle, but it seemed a little cliche. A fort sort of thing. Then I could make the actual buildings out of wood... What kind of rooms would I need? All I can think of is storage room, forge, and bedroom...
  9. Cave ins

But cave ins do not happen when digging out ores or making a 2x1 tunnel?
  10. effective ways to mine?

Ho ho! Now I found a very large sample of native copper, Cassiterite, and Hemitite! from stone age to steel age baby
  11. Hemitite not smelting??

Thank you, I tried that and it worked. +1!
  12. Hemitite not smelting??

So I was smelting my first load of hematite when, and my charcoal went below my ore weight. I couldnt do anything about until the next load of charcoal cooked, so I let the coal burn itself out. I exited the game and came back the next day to finish cooking the charcoal. I put a load of charcoal in there and started smelting. Here is the thing, I had way more coal than ore and the coal dropped below the ore and now it's not cooking! I figured it was bugged so I tried it in another bookmark and the same thing happened! Does hemitite need a higher tempiture to smelt? It's on the sixth notch down in the lower end of yellow... Help! I don't want to lose more charcoal
  13. The TFC Wiki and Minerals/Ores

Correction, a "guide" is a nit a collection of facts like a wiki article. A guide is something that directly connects facts using instruction in steps. I do understand you're caution at not making the wiki do the work for you, that is very important and I agree. However I did not like the holstile tone in your first post. Keep it happy . PS, I quite like terrafirmians
  14. Discussion: What is your first tool? :)

I'm I the only one who made a propick? Can't mine the ores until you find them. And when you find em you can sluice em. Much more reliable!
  15. How to find ore?

I am relatively new to this mod so I can't tell to much about how to find gold/silver/nickel, however I have found lots of iron in my world. My advice would be to set up five or more sluices in various areas until you get a reading of what you want. Then if you find something, do vertical slices (digging out the block below you) checking with the propick every so often surrounding the entire area the sluice can search.
  16. effective ways to mine?

Lol, is it really? here, hopefully this is better: Yes, its chert
  17. effective ways to mine?

So I sliced down into the rock, tapping the rock every 12 blocks. On my second slice I found a "very large sample of sphalerite". I fiddled around with the propick for a while and found the deposit. After digging up almost a inventory full of it, I ran into this, which is just boggling my mind... This doesn't do it even CLOSE to justice, but there is literaly a ravine made of Lignite (coal) and sphalerite. There is SIX "very large" individual samples of sphalerite in this ravine! no copper yet, I'll be looking for that next.
  18. effective ways to mine?

I can't really answer your question very well as I am a begginer as well, but this seems effective for mining in the beginning. I'm curious, what kind of stone is that? Schist? One thing I can say is in regards to mining, I can't seem to get surface readings. I recently found a area where there was a lot of stones that dropped sphalerite and when I Sluice it I get sphalerite. I also got one copper nugget, so I'm going to dig down into it and see if I can find some sphalerite or copper. Since it was a native copper nugget, the stone layer underneath must be either Diorite, gabbro, or granite. All of which are good rocks to mine in. So I will return with my results later today.
  19. Nuggets and Ore veins.

So I just aquired my first pick and propick! now I need to find copper. I have found native copper nuggets in two spots, is there any relation to the nuggets and there being a actual ore deposite? Cause I have no freaking CLUE where to start looking, other than in the correct rock. I have a large section of Diorite, should I start a mine? If so, what style of mine?
  20. Nuggets and Ore veins.

Ah, he is! I was hoping he would. well until then, if anyone could answer some of my questions.
  21. Game breaking lag at certain times

That makes sense! thank you, this issue is also getting a little better. Computer must be getting used to it... interesting... I'm pretty sure it was the block breaking issue.
  22. Game breaking lag at certain times

Oh, ok. Well I'll deal with it haha. I did notice that it is starting to go away, It's still irratating but definetly tolerable. Thank you for answering my question, I'm off to go find some clay!
