      ATTENTION Forum Database Breach   03/04/2019

There has been a breach of our database. Please make sure you change your password (use a password manager, like Lastpass).
If you used this password anywhere else, change that too! The passwords themselves are stored hashed, but may old accounts still had old, insecure (by today's standards) hashes from back when they where created. This means they can be "cracked" more easily. Other leaked information includes: email, IP, account name.
I'm trying my best to find out more and keep everyone up to date. Discord (http://invite.gg/TerraFirmaCraft) is the best option for up to date news and questions. I'm sorry for this, but the damage has been done. All I can do is try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

why?only because i still dont have money for minecraft, and i brazilian

    Neither.

    There are multiple reasons, e.g.:

    • Pirate accounts are illegal in general, therefore server would be at risk of being punished for supporting them.
    • The servers use various plugins for ensuring safety of players and general order. These plugins rely on official data from Mojang.
    • In average players with pirated accounts bring more trouble for staff, not following rules, etc. E.g. they feel they don't have much to loose if banned.

P.S. Oh, you are Brazilian? Man, I have been trying to buy mate (jerba) tea here in Russia for few months - no luck. It was popular few years ago, but now quite rare.
How lucky you are, being in one of the countries where it did originate from and where it is abundant :)
I am drooling over all modern types of the jerba mate in online shops. Some day will find a way to buy there, I am not that good with international shopping :D

Didn't you used to play TFC on HappyDiggers? Oh that's right you broke a very simple rule of no griefing and went on a tirade about how rules don't apply to you, and then you were banned. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. We have very simple rules on HappyDiggers made to protect players and their builds. You immediately attacked and broke into someone's house. You got what you deserved. Go rant on some other thread that allows whining and griefing, you won't get any pity here.

Adding the direct link to the HappyDiggers forum with the ban details and proofs: here.

Wow, it was 1.5 years ago ...

  3. Found another nice quotation about metallurgy from a book (in addition to Jules Verne's one).

This time - from Harry Harrison's "Stonehenge", which is actually about Greek and Atlantis warriors fighting over a tin mine to be able to produce bronze.

    "

It was a war over a resource as precious as the one that names our own Petrochemical Age. Not oil, but tin. Without tin,
there could have been no Bronze Age. For at the very dawn of metallurgy it was evident that copper alone was too soft to
make durable tools and weapons. Tin was essential, but almost impossible to find. Yet when combined at a proportion of
one to nine, it transforms the abundant, more malleable copper into hardened bronze. Too much tin, and the bronze is
too brittle, like the raw hardening agent itself; too little, and the bronze is too soft, like the copper it melds with. But it
is scarce; the more so for the ancients, who didn't dig deeply for it as we do, but who searched for nodules of cassiterite in
naturally open tin streams. There are none of those nut-like nodules of tin oxide left anymore, the surface of the earth
having been picked clean a long time ago.

This is probably a very noobish question but do I need the entire TechnodeFirmaCraft modpack (from the AT Launcher) to join or do I need JUST TerraFirmaCraft? Thanks in advance!

There are several servers, so both nearly-vanilla TerraFirmaCraft server and TechNodeFirmaCraft server exist.

If you want to play on TerraFirnaCraft server, you need only Terrafirmacraft mod. And some additional client-side mods are allowed.

If you want to play on TechNodeFrimaCraft server, you will need the TNFC modpack in AT launcher and login to a separate TNFC server.

Please note that TNFC is whitelisted for community donors only.

Some more information on HappyDigger's site, Servers tab: http://happydiggers.net/content.php?117&tabid=107

On the wiki there is a statement " Just like in vanilla, minecarts can be combined with chests to create a minecart with chest", but it is not possible to craft such minecart with TFC chest, and minecraft chest is not available. Is chest minecart available in TFC in other way than just enabling vanilla chest (which would probably break food decay and item placement)?

Where have you found your quote from the Wiki ? Search doesn't show that.

The only search result is the page http://wiki.terrafirmacraft.com/Crafting_Differences which states that the chest minecarts are disabled ("Disabled Recipes").

  6. I have met bears on plains only atm. Bow is the best. It takes about 3 full-drawn shots to kill a bear. They are weak to piercing damage.

Sometimes when they get a shot, they stop their charge, this may slightly help in the forest - when hear a bear, walk with drawn bow, shoot and run away.

Also cutting the blocking trees may help.

Hi-tier knife could probably help, but I don't know if color steel knife is better than sword against bears - sword has higher base damage, but knife is piercing.

Anyway with melee fight bear will win.

This last mentioned update of their speed and hostility is awesome. Formerly when I met bears, there was the boring problem to kill all 60+ of them. I couldn't just leave their precious hides, had to get them all, but they were peaceful like cows. Now even with bow and on plains it is a thrilling gamble.

  7. i was looking for a more simplified version of Dwarf fortress, or at least a 3d version. this was the best i could find lol

o_O  I am really confused. Where you guys see any similarity between Dwarf Fortress and TFC? :) Yes, mining, caves ... but it is just a setting, the games are completely different. No?Games like Gnomoria, Towns, StoneHearth, Craft The World, RimWorld are exactly "simplified DF" with good graphics, 3D or 2D.

Gnomoria is already well-playable, others more or less ...

  8. Great idea!

Why all complicated new GUIs and blocks? Just put a tool head into a large fired clay vessel, add tons of coal/cyanide inside, put into a kiln and fire it :)

Maybe gems could be used as "cakes" for case hardening. :) Or the unused ores.

I read long ago that in ancient times iron/steels were doped (alloyed) by adding a secret mixture of various herbs into the molten metal, so the tiny amounts of rare elements from the herbs improved steel. Could be a new use for flowers :)

  9. I would love to see this in game.

Finally I will be able to kill those pesky spiders with one hit. And it would be great to have a similar option for skellies, i.e. for maces.

I will pay for this ability with lot of time and materials, but it will worth it.

Recently I reached color steel and basically I dont have anything new to do in smiting. All smite patterns are learned, written down and easy to reproduce, all metals are in huge ingot heaps, color steel making process is drawn in a mindmap and pretty obvious now. Tools and weapons last long. And it is really great, I love how TFC is balanced here, I had goals, I got them, now life is easy.

So after a while it would be great to return to smiting and have some new endeavors, like making a legendary sword.

On servers this will be another fun thing for people - to boast about their weapons. Currently people talk about sandwitches, builds, etc. Now - legendary weapons.

I would also love to have this for tools. I will spend days and invest a hundred of color steel ingots to get a pickaxe which cuts through stone like water.

I will sell my service for other players, cutting them caves or working at quarry.

I hope durability will increase too.

And an ideal topping for all that would be ability to name weapons/tools. After huge efforts spent to make a weapon, it will require a personal name. :)

  10. Awwwwwww! Yes! Thousand times sorry! I got confused with all the temperature functions and missed this fact! Awwwwwww!

Thank you, kind Kittychanley, for resurrecting my hope! I seem to have the perfect biome for the farm, just need to be there at the correct season.

Formerly I was incorrectly preferring 10 - 16 range of current temp, "hoping" there is an exception in "> 20" rule.

  11. Sherton's greatness grows from server to server :)

Pics #4 and #5 would be great as real postcards. I guess it is currently possible to print them on a durable material and really send. Unfortunately I don't use paper postcards and it would be unethical to send someone else's creations. :)

  12. After reading all the posts and wiki, I am still unsuccessful in farming sequoia saplings in a region where only sequoia grows and rain/temp/evt are ok for sequoia.

This prevents me from secretly planting the whole server with the beautiful sequoias.

Disconsolate, I went to see the code to understand the mechanics better.

So the grass block tick update makes it possible to sapling to appear only when temp is >20, but sequoia valid temp is 10 - 16.

Therefore if the sequoia is the only tree which can grow in the area, saplings will never appear, because at least one type of trees must be within the parameters, correct?

And even if there are other tree types which can grow in the area, sequoia will not appear anyway, because temperature is still finally checked.

Therefore sequoia saplings can never spawn. Please, please tell me I am wrong :`( I don't know Java, I hope I am mistaken in code analysis. Could you please hint the lines where the sequoia saplings leak to life?

Despite I personally found 4 sequoia saplings in the wild, I guess it can be explained this way: during the initial world generation the WorldGenSaplings.generate is somehow called without the "temp > 20" check, so lots of saplings appear.  And few saplings in the forest do not grow by some reasons, so are left for people.

Sorry for any inconvenience, my brain is broken by java and despair :)

  13. TFC 0.79.7 Changelog says:

"Redesigned the way that taste interacts with nutrition and how satisfaction affects the player. Taste no longer directly affects the nutrition gained from eating a meal. Instead, it affects only the satisfaction gained, with more satisfaction being added the closer that the meal's taste is to the players preferences. When the player is satisfied, they will gain residual nutrition based upon the player's current nutritional levels with more nutrition gained when the player is malnourished than if he isn't."

Does it mean that a better match of a meal's taste with player's taste profile gives an additional increase in nutrition levels (food types), and nothing else? I.e. that the better taste does not increase time, during which hunger bar will not deplete (i.e. "saturation")?

Or the change affects only one part of taste mechanics, the one which interacts with nutrition. And the other part - saturation - was not changed?

    And a related question please: which sandwich would be overall closer to player's profile (with master cooking): -10 -10 -10 -10 -10 or -50 0 0 0 0 ?

As usually, terribly sorry if the answers were already given, I did my best to search forum and wiki.

  14. I have used Red Hat Linux and Solaris, but only at work. Linuxes are very common in companies which do microelectronic circuits development. Mostly because of stability. Also they allow great automation (scripts, data pipes, redirection, etc), and many microelectronics software is made for Linux.

But since it is not my own home computer system, I know very little about setting it up, installing additional programs, etc. Because all that stuff is provided and controlled by a separate department and ordinary users are not allowed much. And also they (OSes) are much older then modern home ones, because companies prefer proved by time stuff, again for stability.About personal usage: I plan to replace Windows Vista on my old notebook (Dell Inspiron 1525) with a Linux. I selected LinuxMint with Cinnamon DE for this. Also considered Ubuntu.

I am ready to do it for a month now, but lack of time for making backups and unstable behavior of 7-year old Vista still prevents me from starting :)))

The notebook is for "office" tasks. So EastAPOLO, how would you compare LinuxMint and Ubuntu? I heard that LinuxMint is a bit more user-friendly and better for people new in Linux world.Would you agree?

What are disadvantages of LinuxMint in comparison to Ubuntu?

Would you strongly advice against LinuxMint?

And - what types of tasks do you perform on your linux, i.e. what kinds of software are available from the repositories? I guess movie players are already embedded into Ubuntu/Mint. What about sophisticated DVD/CD writers and grabbers, which can set writing speed, or EAC analogs? Stuff for working with USB flash drives, like for benchmarking them, making bootable. Backup software? Torrent clients? Do major companies, like e.g. Intel, make their software for their e.g. SSDs for Ubuntu/Mint too? E.g. Inted SSD Tool, for updating SDD firmware?

Please don't waste your time on details, just coarse info.

Update: Lol, InsaneJ added his post while I was typing mine :) InsaneJ, if you could give some advices about my questions and concerns, it is also appreciated of course :)
